You’d think owning a reactive dog was the criteria for joining this group from their marketing? Wrong. My dog is extremely excitement reactive, so I thought this group would be a good fit for him - so I messaged their page on whatsapp about whether anything was near me. Immediately they told me to pay for their services, before even telling me if there was anything in my area - so, reluctantly - I did, to find 0 information about where the walks are, who they’re run by or how many dogs attend. I was then met with rules in their group chat about muzzling dogs on their walk, which was not told to me by the initial chat - I do not own a muzzle, and my dog is not aggressive reactive, so I didn’t think that would be an issue - other members in the same group chat had small dogs who were not muzzle trained, which was apparently fine, yet my whippet x HAD to be muzzled, despite never showing an aggressive tendency in his life When I said this, i was yet again upsold their ‘education tier’, which I had previously stated I did not need, due to having a lot of knowledge about my dog, his needs and multiple professionals involved in his life. I did not want to pay £12.99 a month to be told things I already know like told how to muzzle train, or that my dog would need an e collar to go off lead (which is actually their beliefs). I stated that I am low income, cannot afford a decent muzzle within the time frame I would need, and do not have the time to muzzle train before the walk (in order to do it properly, it can take months in order for a dog to be fully comfortable in one). I was yet again, told to pay for their more expensive subscription. The ‘Head volunteer’ then messaged me, and told me that ‘They’re sorry I feel that way’ - when I stated that they should have been very explicit with their muzzle policy BEFORE making people pay. And told me that i ‘don’t fit the Honest hounds ethos’ so removed me from the group. I was told I would get a refund, and they haven’t given it to me - and offered me no advice whatsoever. Unless you want to be told that tools are the only fix, and that you NEED to pay for their most expensive tiers/tools in order to succeed with your dog. Don’t bother. I don’t understand how this company are so well received by the majority of people. Their walks aren’t suitable for excitement reactive dogs, despite being marketed as being so. It’s taken me MONTHS to feel comfortable enough to even sign up for one of these walks because my dog is excitement reactive, which isn’t the norm - and this has knocked my confidence to the point where I’m debating giving up on attempting dog neutrality, and any training at all. Thanks for knocking my confidence even more honest hounds!
