I use bible gateway frequently but the ads have become ridiculous and distracting. When I hit the x to close them it often opens them instead. When I do successfully close an ad, it often pops back up in under a minute. I understand that websites take money to run, but this is too much. There are secular websites that are run much better and are not bombarding people with ads and they also have costs to keep the site running, but many other sites do a better job of running their websites. I hate to give a Bible website a poor review. But you go to the Bible to learn, study, and hear from God. These ads distract you from all 3. If you are trusting God to provide for you, as any bible based site should be, then I can't imagine He would provide for you by distracting people from His word. I hope whoever is running this site seeks God regarding their finances, because no one should feel harassed and distracted while reading the Bible.

We use Bible Gateway (website) all the time, especially when we're in a pinch and need to look something up or compare translations.
However, the ADS are RIDICULOUS!!! I have a screenshot from a "28 YEARS LATER: BONE TEMPLE" ad that has some demon-looking-thing yelling right on the front! Definitely not letting the kids know about Bible Gateway! I've stopped visiting as much because the ads are so frequent. The product is great... however, I have to give this platform a 1 STAR... gg's BG!

Useful to look up verses and many free options. It even has audio for free. I find that useful as I can listen in the car.

Of course, many advertisers, but that's somewhat normal. Although, Zondervan and Harper Collins are huge brands so I'm not sure why the need to monetise this so much. But, take the best of it.

They misinterpret everything to justify this silly book, like genesis 3:9 god asked adam wher art thou? This site says god new where adam was but it was to let adam reflect on what he did, this is crap, where in the bible does it say that? Hint it doesn't so this site does not take the words in the book to mean anything make it up do what you need to the bibe doesn't matter at that point, this site is a pure joke

My past review spoke to the excellence of Bible gateway. Now I can't even use the app.
It's full of ads and pop-ups. Obviously price driven. It is useless for my purpose of just reading the word daily. This is not the app for that purpose.
The app now is associated with a yearly fee, around $60 or $70. And it may be good for someone who uses it as study tools for in depth studying.

I used to love this app, but now I am uninstalling it. It used to be easy to search for a particular scripture. When they started using ads, I understood that they need to make revenue so, although it was irritating, I didn't complain. But now they've changed the entire site so that it apparently has an awful AI running it. Last Sunday, during church, I opened it to search the passage the preacher was reading, and instead of giving me the verse I searched, it offered similar verses I might be interested in. HOW DO I JUST GET THE VERSE I WANT?! Why did you change it?! It's not simply the Bible any more, nor is it easy to use. I will delete Bible Gateway and just use my old cassette version to listen. Thank you for making that decision for me.

I love bible gateway for reading because I prefer to read online. But the ads are a bit much. The little x button to close them is super small. I understand that it takes money to keep the site going but the ads are very distracting.

I only got the option of 3 stars. I would have given 4, had there been more stars. This is my 1st time trying the site, so it's a little premature to ask me to rate the site, since I've only been on here now, but, IMO, the web site is a bit difficult to navigate. I'm very excited to use it, if I can figure it out. I was saddened to see so many 1 star reviews. So many complaints about money and ads. It seeks people don't get that it takes money to run a site. So many of your ads don't have an X to click out, they block the entire screen. I'm sure U need revenue from ads, but PLEEEZEE make a way to close them, so I can read. I'll be back for a 2nd review after I've used the site a bit

I am a subscriber of BibleGateway and have been for a number of years. For some reason, I can no longer sign on. I sent at least two emails to the support email for help and assistance and the response I received is "change your password." Well, I had already done that. I even tried to sign up as a new customer and a message comes back to say "this email already exits." The monthly subscription payment is still being charged on my credit card but I have no access to BibleGateway. There is no phone number to call and speak to customer service. As of today, December 18, 2025, I have not received communication from anyone. This has been going on since the second week of December 2025. I use BibleGateway for my courses and Bible Studies. Now, I have to use other (limited) resources. I want to continue with BibleGateway or be refunded. No one is contacting me. Also, if you Google problems with BibleGateway, you will find this issue is not their first time.

I love biblegateway!!! When I can't read myself, it's my go to. I love that there are multiple versions to choose from. THANK YOU.

Bible Gateway is an excellent resource point for Bible reading, references & researching the word of God in the Bible. Easy to navigate. Love it. More Grace.

Horrific distracting ads that blink, flash, move across the screen, bounce and cause me to get so angry while trying to read God's word. I will not be using this savage site anymore. It's is absolutely insane to put all of those ads, many that are stick ads moving and stalking users as we try to navigate the biblical texts or scroll the page.

I have found extremely important misquoted scripture on BibleGateway when comparing to the NIV Bible I have had since 1998.

On BibleGateway in Luke 22:70 (NIV) it states:
They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”
He replied, “You say that I am.”

When it REALLY says:
They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?"
He replied, "You are right in saying that I am"

This is the main basis of arguments for Muslims that Jesus never claims to be the Son of God which is clearly not accurate. Someone needs to pull out a real text Bible to correct this information. I found ANOTHER misquote today, studying Shamgar in Judges 5:8...

BibleGateway says:
God chose new leaders
when war came to the city gates,
but not a shield or spear was seen
among forty thousand in Israel.

But the ACTUAL NIV Bible says:
When they chose new gods,
war came to the city gates,
and not a shield or spear was seen
among forty thousand in Israel

This may seem like not a big deal but the Israelites serving other gods in the days of Shamgar is supported in Biblical archaeology, so removing it, removes evidence for the Bible's authenticity...

I'm so confused at why these extremely important verses are being left out or distorted. It makes me wonder if there is some sort of corruption within the company of Bible gateway to remove such key elements. Or maybe someone hacked the site?? This is a HUGE deal to misquote these seemingly insignificant verses.

READ YOUR REAL TEXT BIBLE. Do not trust BibleGateway. Something is very wrong.

Inappropriate ads which are NOT due to previous websites visited they are scams and fraud

Bible Gateway is too in love with ad revenue over a calm uninterrupted learning experience for its users. Ads are understandable for site expenses but just as News outlets today, distractions with blinking flashing and sudden blocking of text ads rather that simple non intrusive ads. The Truth - If they were devoted to Gods word, they would not attempt to distract from it. Therefore they worship mammon more than God.

You have ruined it with the Ads!!!! Hope you loose all your readers.

Wow biblegateway you think it’s a harmless website but safari blocked 40 trackers, and they allow inappropriate ads, seriously on a bible website?

They give you more Ads than they do the word of God. No thanks!

No way to highlight. Did everything and jumped through all the hooks. Took all my Bible study time. I will just read the Bible.

In Daniel 9:14 they failed to capitalize the word 'he' when referring to God.
