THIS IS A SCAM

Well-taught courses
The material was thorough and the certificate was easy to earn, clear lessons.
BUYER BEWARE
BUYER BEWARE: Coursera
I'm sorry to say that my experience with Coursera was the worst I've had with an online learning platform. I was double billed, and when I tried to get it resolved, I was left frustrated.
I also qualified for a promotion Google offered for its Google AI courses, and Coursera refused to honor it, even though I met every requirement. On top of that, none of the courses I completed through Coursera were accepted by anyone I tried to share them with, so the time and money I put into them didn't give me the recognition I expected.
If you're considering Coursera, I'd strongly urge you to look into free resources or other providers first. Read the billing terms carefully, confirm in writing whether any promotion applies to you, and find out in advance whether the credential will be recognized where you need it. I usually leave positive reviews, so I don't say this lightly. Learn from my experience.
Terrible Customer Service, Unfair Refund Policy, and Complete Disregard for Customers
I am extremely disappointed with Coursera and would strongly caution anyone considering subscribing to this platform.
I signed up for a free trial and was charged a little over $45 when it automatically converted into a paid subscription. I canceled on the very same day the payment was processed and immediately contacted customer support to request a one-time refund exception.
Despite explaining the situation and making multiple attempts to resolve it, Coursera repeatedly refused my request, hiding behind its rigid refund policy. There was no flexibility, no meaningful consideration of my circumstances, and no attempt to reach a reasonable resolution.
What made the experience even worse was the way the customer support rep, John, handled my complaint. After several exchanges, I received a message stating, “This message will serve as the final communication on this issue, and I will be closing the case.”
Imagine paying for an educational service, raising a legitimate concern about a charge, and being told that the company is effectively ending the conversation because it has nothing further to say.
I understand that subscription services have terms and conditions. However, there is a difference between enforcing a policy and providing good customer service. A customer who cancels on the renewal date and promptly requests assistance should at least receive genuine consideration rather than repeated scripted responses.
For a company that promotes education, professional development, and accessibility, this experience was incredibly disappointing. Coursera appears more concerned with enforcing its refund policy than retaining customer trust or goodwill.
I have completely lost confidence in this platform. I will not be purchasing another subscription, and I cannot recommend Coursera based on my experience.
My advice to potential customers: Be extremely careful when signing up for a free trial. Understand the renewal terms, set your own cancellation reminder, and do not assume Coursera will offer any flexibility if you are charged.
Initially
At first, when I found the course I wanted to learn, the website showed that enrollment was free. However, it required me to enter my payment details. After a 7-day trial, they charged me for a subscription. The subscription plan didn't even show the price beforehand; they just charged me without my consent.
I noticed a charge on my account and…
I noticed a charge on my account and realised that Coursera had been charging me for three months. I hadn't used the account and didn't even remember signing up for a free trial. I only noticed the charges recently.
The latest transaction was still pending, so I requested its cancellation, explaining that I hadn't even logged in to the website. They could easily verify this, but both Customer Service and the escalation team hid behind their Terms and Conditions, showing no empathy or willingness to find a fair solution.
Perhaps they have never heard of customer-centricity! They could certainly benefit from hiring a good Product Manager to address these issues and improve customer satisfaction.
And here's the irony: when I finally logged in for the first time to cancel the suspicious subscription, I received a welcome email! Yet another indication that I hadn't been using the service.
I certainly do not recommend Coursera.
COURSERA = Scammers
COURSERA are essentially scammers in broad day light. The financial aid application is merely useless; it does not save you money. It would have been more cost effective to pay the program in full retail instead of the subsidized amount per course. I have reached out to customer service for assistance. And of course, phone calls or direct emails are not available. Instead, you are to submit a "Ticket" in an internal portal so that the experts can help you. I recommend to STAY AWAY from Coursera.
The company is pure AI and wont help.

I just started a Machine Learning Course, looks good and stuff. Had a trial going on, and wanted to continue learning. But yeah even cashing out a customer was hard for them.
Only then I realized their support is 100% AI no human involved. They only have their Cora system that points you to outdated wiki articles. A frustrating experience I would recommend to avoid
Absolute bait-and-switch
Absolute bait-and-switch. As an American citizen living abroad, I paid for this course using my US credit card. Coursera happily processed my US dollars and allowed me to spend weeks sweating through intensive coursework, quizzes, and assignments. At no point during checkout or throughout the modules did they disclose that the final exam would be completely blocked based on my physical location.
It was only after doing 100% of the heavy lifting that I was structurally barred from taking the final exam simply because my physical IP address is outside the United States. This is a severe, deceptive failure of consumer transparency. If Coursera intends to block US citizens abroad from completing an exam, they must explicitly state that restriction BEFORE taking our money—not trap our time, effort, and money.
Withholding critical location-based exam criteria until the absolute finish line is an unethical business practice. Coursera took my US funds but refused to deliver the final product. I am immediately filing a dispute with my US bank for services not as described. Expats and citizens abroad: beware. Intuit won't let you actually take the final exam if you're not physically inside the US and Coursera only told me this AFTER I did the work. Yeah I got the certificate from Coursera but that's worthless if you can't sit the exam.
GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH COURSERA!
I have studied five science courses through Coursera with three top-notch universities, including two programs with the American Museum of Natural History. I had no issues, and my questions and enquiries were answered to my satisfaction. I am now enrolling in another five science courses with Coursera.
absolutely horrible experience
absolutely horrible experience. i canceled my course subscription yet continued to be charged after cancellation. the monthly fee even increased from from the 50% off of $49 to the full $49. i was never notified of the increase. i had no idea i was still being charged until my credit card company brought it to my attention.
the worst part of this entire experience has been the absolutely horrible customer service and complete lack of communication. there is no phone number available to contact someone directly and resolve an issue, leaving customers with little to no way to get answers or hold anyone accountable. when i attempted to address the charges and request a refund, my concerns were dismissed, and my request was denied without a proper investigation. they also failed to provide evidence regarding my cancellation.
it is beyond frustrating to have money taken from your account month after month after you have canceled a subscription, only to discover it much later and then struggle to get anyone to help you. the lack of transparency, accessible customer support, and accountability is unacceptable.
if a company is going to charge customers, it needs to provide a clear and reliable way to contact customer service when something goes wrong. hiding behind a lack of communication and refusing to properly address billing disputes is not how customers should be treated.
i strongly encourage anyone who has experienced similar issues to document everything and file complaints with the better business bureau and the appropriate consumer protection agencies. customers deserve transparency, accessible support, and fair treatment. based on my experience, i would not recommend this company to anyone.
Misleading marketing practices
Misleading marketing practices. Google offered a free course with a "3-month Google AI Pro trial subscription" inside. However, immediately after canceling the auto-renewal of the Coursera trial to protect my card from unexpected fees, Coursera locked the course and denied access to the promised Google bonus. The bonus is hidden behind a paywall. This behavior is deeply misleading and disappointing for new students.
I started 7 day free trial and cancel…
I started 7 day free trial and cancel right after... they charged me anyway. No contact, chat is only a bot. Worst customer service ever.
The courses that I have tried are…
The courses that I have tried are pretty basic. The app in-app features are awful-its hard to move from one video to another. Everything is broken into tiny segments. I learned very little. The customer service is ABYSMAL. They make it hard to cancel on purpose and then when you email them for help in closing the account they just tell you to do it yourself. And they won't give refunds. I would recommend MedBridge or other continuing education platforms over this one.
Subscription is scam can’t unsubscribe
Enough is enough. This company has tried to prevent us cancel subscription as we intended to. I cancelled my subscription to my course yet still got charged monthly for 7 months, and the fee increased from $49 to $79 the second month! No notifications. I am completely unaware they have been secretly charging me until I found out through my credit card company. This is a scam. Their terms are unclear. They refused to listen and provide evidence we tried to cancel. Some lawyers here saw my email and pls contact and give us a number to file a lawsuit case! Unbelievable! They turned down my request to refund immediately without any investigation. People you know we can all file complaints to BBB and get this company out completely. Shameful conduct!
MoMA 7 day free trial ‘you can cancel…
MoMA 7 day free trial ‘you can cancel anytime’ - if u cancel within the free trial u lose access there is no free trial in other words
Rigid refund policy
Rigid refund policy. Despite unenrolling, I was still charged because I did not also cancel the subscription. Why have an option to unenroll if you also have to unsubscribe separately?
Absolutely horrible customer service…
Absolutely horrible customer service when it comes to subscription assistance. Do not give them your business- you will regret it.
Extremely frustrating
