The cost of a "7 day free trial" is nowhere near free; regardlesss
I used American Greetings to send an e-card to a family member. (7/9). I read the cancellation & membership information carefully, then entered my bank card info, knowing full well that it must be cancelled before the 7-day period was over.
I cancelled my membership (7/10) & turned off auto renewal one day into the trial. I received confirmation, stating membership was cancelled and auto-renewal was off. Seven days later (7/16), $7.99 was taken out of my bank account.
I contacted American Greetings via email (7/16) politely requesting that my account (trial period dates, date of cancellation & auto-renewal revocation) be reviewed and a subsequent refund be issued. I included screenshots/emails illustrating I cancelled well within the trial period and turned off auto renewal.
I received an email back, saying they confirmed my cancellation and membership would end as of 8/8.
I emailed again and included emails & screenshots clearly showing cancellation, as per policy.
Their second response stated that, as a member, my responsibility was to cancel within the free trial period.
Also explained were their terms of service regarding refunds if a member failed to ensure the aforementioned cancellation.
I was told they had "arranged" for my account to expire on 8/8.
No mention of documentation provided, proving otherwise. No acknowledgement of mistaken dates/charges and no refund, leaving me to realize that the charge was not an error.
When or how a "member" cancels is irrelevant. No part of their "free trial" is free.
It doesn't matter how long it has been since you signed up, or whether you turn off renewal.
There exists no date upon which your free trial converts into an actual 'paid subscription.'
The moment you input your card details, you are 100% guaranteed to be charged for, at minimum, one month's membership fee.
Reaching out to customer service / providing them with black and white proof of erroneous charges will accomplish nothing. Calling the 800 number, issued during any email exchanges, will also not end with any type of refund.
The bottom line is this—give them the means to do so, and you will be charged.
Don't give this company your credit or debit card information. Buying an ecard via another service or company will cost nothing in comparison.
Stole membership fee without providing…
Stole membership fee without providing reminder of trial ending. Charged without actually proving any service. Ecard sent couldn't be opened so I cancelled but AG refused to refund. Terrible company. Will no longer support.

Delivery date went from 2 days to 18 days!!! UNACCEPTABLE! It’s a custom wrapping paper for a birthday that I now have no use for.
First time using was frustrating
First time using was frustrating, 2 hours to send a card after non-refundable ransom was paid. Two days later, tried sending my daughter a birthday card, the website wouldn't load. Fool me once. For stealing customers hard earned money, management should have their fingers crushed in an old fashioned printing press and find a new line of work. Will be certain to spread the word, American Greetings is a scam.
The Greeting Card Crooks
THE FIRST TIME I CREATED ACC. WITH AMERICAN GREETING CARDS CREATING AND SENDING WAS A SUCCESS MY ACCOUNT WAS DEACTIVATED SAME DAY 05/07-26 I'M THINKING IT'S A MISTAKE. Renewed my subscription without my authorization
American Greetings renewed my subscription without giving me prior notice. I had planned to discontinue my subscription. I wrote to them, but they told me their memberships are nonrefundable. They did not explain why they renewed my membership without prior notice. I responded, but they have never replied. Shoddy customer service.
They did an automatic renewal without…
They did an automatic renewal without my consent.i did not want to be renewed and they refused to refund me. Just beware of these bad practices!!
Little Did I Know
Little Did I Know, American Greetings And BlueMountain Are Related. I Went On There Because I Wanted A Particular Type Of Card For My Son's Birthday. It Said I Would Get A 7 Day Free Trial Which I Thought Was Good. I Go To My Paypal And Find Out Even Though Monthly Is 7.99 They Were Trying To Charge Me $36. But What Gets Me, As I Said It States On Thier Website I Wouldn't Be Charged Til The End Of 7 Days. Yet They Were Trying To Stiff Me Out Of $36 Today!!! Even Still, $7.99 Canadian Converted To US Funds Is Only Like 6 Bucks. YET THEY WANTED TO STIFF ME OUT OF $36.
The site Americangreetings.com…
The site Americangreetings.com advertises a 7-day free trial period to use the service. However, when you use the service, you are immediately charged a year's membership. I signed on 2/12/2026 for a trial and my card was charged $0.01. On 2/13/2026, I sent a card and my trial was ended. I was charged $35.99 for a full-year membership. According to the company, this happened when I pressed begin membership and is non-refundable.
Company does not care about customer satisfaction, and will cheat you out of your membership fee
This company fails to include common names on its list for electronic ecards, and there is no way to insert them. I had just renewed my membership, and requested a refund. They refused, claiming that they do not refund memberships ever. But there was nothing about that on their website.
Poor Customer Service - Product Does Not Work!
For the last two months, when I attempt to send an e-card, I go through the entire process of preparing and personalizing the card. But when I hit the send button, I receive a message saying "Server Error Occurred - Please Try Later." My wife has experienced the same thing on her computer. So I wrote to the company and cancelled my membership - requesting a refund because their product was not working as advertised. I received a sappy reply saying they were sorry I was experiencing issues - BUT, then they said "Please note that our memberships are nonrefundable." I can understand that if I were simply wanting to cancel my membership for some random reason. But to refuse a refund when their product is not working - that is truly poor customer service.
Problem sending create-a-card
Have been a customer for many years.
There have been glitches in the past, but the variety of choices made working around them worthwhile.
Recently, they added creatacard which offered new and fun options. First time I used it to send to multiple recipients, 27 of my chosen card bounced back, claiming they hadn't picked it up. I know my recipients and that wouldn't have happened, so I emailed my issue. The response was for me to try a few things and for me to resend the card. Tried the suggestions, but they all rejected again.
Next occasion that I send group createacard, there were 22 rejections. This time I called. Rep was pleasant but didn't have a solution. Said she'd pass my concern onto tech. Pretty sure the problem is either with sending a single card to multiple users at one time or with their creatacards based on my experience, which is what I suggested to them.
Long story short, nothing has changed. Stopped using createacard. Very frustrating experience. I am at wits end.
Guess my only option is to cancel my subscription and find another option.
They do not have a free trial/Bait and Switch/Very Deceiving
They do not have a free trial. Clearly, this company does bait and switch and charges you instantly if you use their ecard services. Many recipients don't open the card when they receive it because they think it is spam. I called and emailed to end my free trial, and they would not refund my money, because they said during the trial period, a pop-up came up on my screen that I would be charged if I used a specific service (which I did not see). It's very deceiving and unethical!
Didn't send Christmas card and $200 gift to daughter
I sent Christmas card and $200 gift card on Dec 24. In early Jan I received email from AG that gift wasn't picked up. I contacted daughter but she never received it. I went back to card and RESENT it. I received note from AG that card was delivered and gift picked up. I sent message to daughter and she NEVER RECEIVED IT NOR DID SHE GET THE GIFT CARD. I've written two inquiries to customer service. No response in 10 days. There is no phone number to call AG. This used to be such a great company. I've used them for many years. No more. I turned off auto renew! I'm bitterly disappointed. And who got the $200? I'm going to contact BBB and my Bank. I'm hoping for a recovery of the money.
Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service. Very poor functionality of web site. American Greetings used to be a trusted name - no more. Beware - this is without doubt the worst on-line retailer I have encountered - do not give them your business!
Got charged from this company without…
Got charged from this company without even signing up at all, I hadn't (or anyone else in family) visited this site but there's a £22 charge on my statement. How did they do this? Steer well clear of this scam company😡
No Free Trial!!
This company is deceptive! The 7 day free trial is a hoax! As soon as you make a greeting card they charge you! I emailed and called to refund the $32.99 charge, but they refuse. Dispute it through your credit card company. I can’t stand bait and switch companies.
Horrible
Horrible! Waste of money! Never again. Several of my recipients never received their greeting. They checked their trash and spam folders and nothing there. This past weekend AG informed me that I do not have an account and yet I’ve paid until the end of this year. Customer service assured me I do have an account and asked me to change my password. On my iPhone the keyboard does not pop up so I cannot type in my new password. So I'm using their temporary password. One problem after the next. The greetings, except for the Martin Short smash up, are hokey and childish. They really do need to step up the quality of their selection. I guess I'm not surprised that reviews on several sites are hovering around 1/5. If dissatisfied customers could give 0 I’m sure they would.
Bait and Switch… company offers 7 day…
Bait and Switch… company offers 7 day free trial but has a button that you “think” lets you create a card. It actually is an instant activation and full charge to your bank account. F- is what they should get.
This is an online scam.
I couldn't give 0 or negative stars. Do not use this company. Do not trust this company. My friend was not able to access the $50 gift I sent. It was supposed to be returned on the 30th day, but instead, they kept the $50 and withdrew another $5 from checking account without authorization, for an unknown reason. Despite emails with customer service, including sending them proof with emails and screenshots, they did nothing. American Greetings may have once been a legitimate company, but their online presence is nothing more than a scam. The gift was never supposed to be retrieved. Look at the other reviews, which pretty much all say the same thing. Use another company.
