[REPLY]
We came from the UK for a 12-day stay in Iceland to see-in the New Year and, hopefully, see some northern aurora. We were met at Keflavik on December 28th by Einar in near blizzard conditions and FairCar provided us with an Opel Zafira that proved to be utterly reliable, roomy, and quite economical (32-mpg) to run for an automatic. We covered over 850 km during our stay, and enjoyed every minute of it. The studded winter tyres coped well with the very icy roads that we often found in early January, and the efficient heater kept us cozy in temperatures that went to -8 deg C.
I recommend FairCar to anyone.
I knew finding a cheap car to rent in Iceland was not going to be easy. Fortunately I came accross Fair Car. Although the car was not new, the Opel Astra we were given was in perfect condition.
We arrived in Keflavik airport at around 3.00 at night and there were the people of fair car waiting for us to transfer us where the car was parked.
We travelled the island around with our 3 daughters and everything was fine. We just noticed some strange reaction of the car on the other side of the island and with just a phone call Einar indicated us a car garage immediately. They reviewed the car , 0 cost and the car continued working perfectly well.
Again to return the car, absolutely no problem, at the arranged time they transferred us back to the airport. (booking number 162)
Thanks for everything!
I visited Iceland this summer with the intention of travelling across the whole of this beautiful and interesting country. I spent some time, prior to travelling, researching car hire and was horrified at the costs associated with the the likes of Hertz, Budget and other multinational car hire firms. Then I found FairCar.
The Opel Astra we were given wasn't new, but it was a prefectly servicable car and the cost of the hire was far more sensible than the ludicrous quotations that I'd from other providers.
Our travels went well and FairCar really showed their committment to their customers when we had a problem. We were about as far away from the FairCar offices as it's possible to get and our exhaust fell off. A quick call to Einar to explain the situation and he called me back within 5 minutes to infom me that a garage was waiting for us, to fit a new exhaust. The repair was very quickly performed and I reckon we were held up for a total of about an hour and a half. Wear and tear happens but I could not fail to be impressed with the speed with which FairCar responded to our predicament.
We were quickly on our way again and completed our grand tour of Iceland a few days later. One of the best holidays I've ever had and it was in no small part due to Einar and FairCar. I couldn't recommend this company any more highly. It's always good to spend your money with a local company as well because the multinationals are only interested in their profit margins.
I liked my experience with FairCar. Everyone I talked to was really friendly and helpful. I really liked that the rental was based on trust. We lend you a car, just bring it back the way it was and it's normal if you meet a few pebbles on the road. I didn't have the impression to be "just another client".
Thank you very much!
And you guys Icelanders are amazing!
I rented a very nice Opel Astra for and got a exellent customer service while getting the car and returning it. The approach from the staff was very trustworthy and provided very good customer service and the cost for the rent was cheap! ....
I recommend FairCar!
FairCar is a great, trustworthy rental car company. Their rates are extremely reasonable and while the cars are not the newest or most luxurious ours was in great condition and ran smoothly. We had a manual Opel Astra. It came with a free GPS (Garmin, brand new and great) and we had no complaints. I would without a doubt rent from FairCar again and do not hesitate to recommend it. Einar is great and you should do your best to support a local Icelandic business!
I rented a car with FairCar during my vacation in Iceland in May this year. I was first bit in doubt with renting a car with them since I could not find any reviews about FairCar online. Furthermore, I was worried that you would be just renting a car wreck. But with the cheap price they offered I took the change and I don't regret it. The old car I rented was clean and fully functional. At last communicating with Einar at FairCar was really nice. He answered all my questions quickly and clearly.
When we decided to go to Iceland, I looked up on the internet and found that lots of people had had problems with international car rental companies, who had not been honest with them and had charged them thousand of euros for imaginary damages they said was due to gravel. And as there had been no inventory of the car, the tourist had to pay and had no legal recourse. So, we decided to trust a local company, and we did well! We had no such trouble! Our car was very clean, in very good repair (we felt absolutely safe), comfortable and much larger than the car we would have had for the same price with a company renting new cars. That was a real advantage as we had our camping equipment. And as the car was not new, we did not have to worry about the gravel. The person who welcomed us was very nice, gave us a free GPS (which was very useful sometimes), and gave us a list of associated petrol stations where we had a small discount, which we appreciated too. If we ever go back to Iceland (which I hope!) we will definitely rent again with Faircar!
It was possible to rent a car (for a reasonable price) on very short notice. Good service (pick up at home, downtown Keflavík). If I would need a rental car again I would without hesitation rent one from "Fair Car - Iceland".
Googled for aeons for the cheapest car rental and finally found FairCar.
Free pickup from Airport, nice staff and no problems whatsoever.
Car was a bit unattractive and not-so up-to-date, but you get what you pay for. No problems with the car, well actually no problems with anything.
I'd recommend this company to anyone who's going with a little smaller travel budget but still wants to rent a car.
Thanks for the good work!
The service of faircar is very good. The car was in optimal conditions although it wasn't so new. With a fair price you can get an useful navigator, as well. Everything was perfect and i suggest faircar if you need a car to use in town or on motorway. We are totally satisfied. Thanks to einar.
We needed a rental car for the summer vacation in Iceland. 3 weeks. and we wanted to have a car at our disposal every day for short trips and traveling all over the country. I looked into severeal carrentals but the price was all over very high or they did not respond. FairCar gave oss a good offer an we felt like celebrities when they picked oss upp on the airport with name signs. Then they drive you to there office where you get the car. We rented a smaller car but not the smallest. it had plenty room for luggage for 4 people. GPS comes with the car and it was very easy to use and helpful. We then after driving 2600km around in Iceland dropped off the car i Keflavik where FairCar has there office. GPS showed the way with "Take me home" button. Dropped the car and we were driven to the airport. We had a very good time in Iceland and we had no problems with FairCar .
We didn't need a 4wd, so we were looking for price. You know that you are booking a used car, so no surprises then.
We had a problem with the throttle our second day (we rented for 14 days), and they brought another car to Reykjavik.
I would strongly recommend FairCar to anyone looking for a cheap option in Iceland, as I've booked older cars than the FairCar ones at Advantage (Italy), for instance, and I din't know it previously.
Thank you Einar, merry Xmas!
perfect - nothing to complain about
Me and my friend spent one week in Iceland in July and renting a car was a must. However, car rental prices are quite steep during the summer season, luckily we found FairCar and couldn't be happier! They treated us like friends, gave us tips.. It really is about the approach, if you rent with them, you will not go wrong!
the service was excellent, Einar picked us at the airport, took us to the car and explained the operation of the GPS although it was too late.
The car was in clean condition, maintenance and operation.
The roads in Iceland are conducted slowly so no need for a more powerful car.
FairCar met us at the airport and two serviceminded nice guys presented the car we signed up for on the Internet. At the end of our trip FairCar transported us back to the airport without any delay. The car from FairCar made us independent from public transportation and the used Opel Astra performed excellent for 5 days for the family of 5 and was also low on mileage. Don't spend your money on expensive rental cars - rent your car at FairCar and spend your money on other pleasures on your holiday !
If can recommend a car rental in Iceland it is FairCar.
Though the car was old, rate was quite cheap and people was great.
Thanks!
We found on the Web a car rental that was much cheaper than the others because it uses old cars. As having a brand-new car doesn't mater for us, we immediately choosed Faircar. It was a bit more complicated as Faircar is not located at the airport, but we managed by having the meeting point at the bus station, which is quite central in Reykjavik. We were a bit desappointed having to pay expensive extra fees for the delivery of the car at this bus station, but at the end, it was still an interesting deal.
straightforward, cool service, very competitive rates, easy and practical
good service and navi included very good .also transfer from airport,:):)
Good car. Reasonable price (I got a special offer, which was super cheap compared to icelandic standards). Nice service. Nice people.
They always answered the phone. Were on time and had a great attitude all in all.
Rent a car in fair price. Good service and no problem. Reccomend higly
Sympathic,personal service, low prices!
Had no problems. Car worked fine. Good service. Recommended :)
Vert good information. Easy to contact even atfer office time. Good prices. Pick up at airport. Fast respons beboer and atfer booking. Overall very satisfied.
They are professional. The treatment is perfect.
We had a great time in Iceland right from the start as we picked our car at the airport, where Einar was waiting for us.. Great guy who's car prices were cheapest in Iceland..
definitely user them again and recommend everyone to use them for good deals..
As an Icelander living abroad, my vacations in Iceland aren't really vacations. There are lots of things to do and lots of people to visit, and if you've been in Iceland you know it's hard to get around without four wheels.
Even though my flight arrived way ahead of schedule, I was welcomed with a sign, smile and a handshake the moment I stepped into the arrivals hall at the airport.
While being driven to my vehicle we had a nice chat and I got to catch up on some things after being abroad for a while.
The car was clean and exceeded my expectations, especially for the price I paid for it!
No problems whatsoever during the week i had it, and when returning it The same person dropped me off at the airport. Really nice to gt such personal service :)
Recommend it to anyone!
Having looked on the Internet for a car hire company I choose Fair Car because the price was what I wanted to pay. Yes the cars are a little older than Hertz or any of the other big company's but our car didn't miss a beat. And also with the car being a little older it blended in and didn't give you that tourist with hire car look.
Service from the airport was brilliant, car ( with free sat nav) was perfect and I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again.
I went to Iceland in August and I rented one car with Fair Car.
The staff is very cool, they help me in all that I needed. The car was very good and to rent, was very easy.
Ahh and the better, the price is cheaper!
I recomend to everyone.
Easy, cheap, simple and effective. Just how i wanted it.
