Thought I'd lost 200Gb of photos when my external drive went faulty. Great service from Fields, they recovered everything at half the price of one of their competitors. Would definitely use them again. David from Birmingham.
Firstly, I'm fairly dubious about all these good reviews on TrustPilot as elsewhere, all I read is negative feedback. Prior to sending my hard drive to Fields, I had read all the horror stories but still decided to go ahead.
I placed an inquiry through their website and had several calls from one of their account managers the next day (Louis Stanton-Rider). When I spoke to him, the guy seemed helpful enough and said the price would likely be around the £200 mark and explained the process. I then received an e-mail explaining the process and how I would receive a free diagnostic report within 24 hours.
Fine I thought and sent in the drive. I then receive an e-mail the next day confirming Fields have received my HD and I should receive a report within the next 48 hours (I thought it was 24?).
I receive nothing after 48 hours.
After this, communication goes a bit cold. I can no longer get hold of [name], despite being told he'll call me back, and despite e-mailing him several times. I ask customer service, only to be told my account manager has changed to [name].
I speak to [name] a few times who gives me hazy information to say the least about how the process is taking a while and the read/write heads are damaged, but says his colleagues are working on extracting the data. He says the HD will most likely need to go to the clean room and the price is likely to exceed £399 + VAT if that happens - What?? I say that's beyond my budget and he suggests cancelling the work, but I tell him no and for the team to carry on trying to extract the data. If it needs to go to the clean room, then I ask for him to call me and I can decide.
I take the decision to cancel the order and speak to [name] again who says he actually cancelled it anyway? He also says the drive may have already gone to the cleanroom to be opened up.... both things totally go against what we spoke about the previous day. I ask for the address so I can arrange courier myself as I have lost all trust in Fields by this point - I am told it has been e-mailed and then hung up on. After reading stories about people failing to get their original drives back, I was always going to pay a bit extra and arrange delivery of the drive myself.
I got my drive back in one piece, although they didn't bother to put it in an anti-static bag.
Overall, I think I saved myself a lot of money and more hassle. The company is unreliable and only bothers communicating with you when they want your business - as soon as they know the hard drive is going into them, it goes cold.
Avoid Fields and use a proper company like [external reference] and [external reference] who will maybe charge a little extra but will far exceed the service you receive from these guys.
UPDATE: On Monday 25th November I received a call from the MD of Fields Data Recovery who was keen to tell me he doesn't usually get involved in cases or speak to customers, however had made an exception following this review on TrustPilot. We spoke and I reaffirmed everything I had put in the original review and we had a chat about what had happened in this case - he was keen for me to change my perception of Fields and asked if there was anything they could do, to which I said no.
Following that, he informed me that my HDD had got into the clean room and their team were able to extract some data (20GB) but this obviously hadn't been relayed to me. He offered to send me the data as a gesture of good will and asked that I pay whatever I felt was acceptable, whether it be £1, nothing or £400 - all he needed was written confirmation for my data to be sent out. At the time, I was happy enough with that and thought it was quite a reasonable step for Fields to take, so I e-mailed confirmation and my address.
Now it goes cold again. I received no response to the e-mail confirmation I sent in the first instance. A follow up e-mail was sent on the 27th with no response. In a final attempt, I called Fields on the 28th November and asked to speak to the MD but was told he wasn't in the office. The advisor I spoke to said he would e-mail him and have him call me back. It's now December 5th and I've obviously received no call back or any kind of communication regards this data.
To have a poor experience with Fields' day-to-day staff is bad enough, but to suffer this same level of incompetence, unprofessionalism and lack of communication AGAIN from the company's Managing Director tells me (and should tell YOU) all you need to know about this company.
This company stinks from the top down. Good luck if you decide to use them, you'll probably need it.
Disk failed in PC with the only copy of important spreadsheets saved on it. Tried a disk caddy and various file recovery tools which were no use. Fields were able to recover the files on the disk and return them to me on DVD within the week very close to Christmas. Very pleasurable experience from my initial enquiry through to data delivery.
I was initially concerned that I was paying money up front without any guarantee of a return. I was also concerned that when you requested further money you tried to overcharge me !!!!! Apart from that I was very pleased with the service..
The service given was speedy and they were able to get back nearly all of my lost data. I was able to view how much was saved before spending my money and to top it all the price was much better than other Data Recovery companies i had contacted. All in all, very pleased
In my hour of need, and when things where pretty desperate, having thought I had lost several years worth of photos of the kids growing up due to my HDD developing a small technical hitch.
Fields data recovery, offered me the solution I needed, or at least to begin with gave me my options, and from there is was not a difficult road to follow.
I was kept informed at all stages of the recovery process, even when they had no real update, I was still kept informed of this, and when they hoped to have the next update. In the end the data was recovered and those treasured moments of the kids in their early years where not lost as we first thought. Excellent service, and would have no problems recommending them to people, and even would use them again myself (however no offence, I hope this will not be the case), but no where to call should the need arise.
I went to this, expensive, multi office, Company after reading all the good reviews on this site and, initially, contact was very good, although I was a bit surprised at the immediate sales call (from Wales) after I had put in some details for guide prices on the site. However, they seemed helpful and my disk was sent to their address in London. I got an e-mail detailing what could be recovered and it was all that I needed and, in discussion on the 'phone (Wales again), I paid a large amount of money for the recovery and also sent a disk for the recovered data. At this point I became unhappy. Communication with the company rep with whom I had been dealing became very difficult but, having said that, my disk did re-appear so I set about using it. Imagine my horror when Win 7 said that it was unreadable and needed formatting!! I took this up with a different rep who phoned me (from Wales) to find out if I was happy. I told him I was not and he said he would speak with a technician and get back to me. He never did and all subsequent mails went unanswered. They got my money so it appeared I was to be ignored. By spending more money, I have managed to recover the data myself and so the problem had sort of gone away BUT I was a very unhappy customer. They did not deliver back to me a fully functional disk with all my recovered data easily accessible. I appeared to get back a clone of the disk that I had sent them with no effort, apparently, having been put into the project other than the initial report. HOWEVER, after all of the above I did manage to speak with them and have now received a 50% refund of the money which I paid and was told that my original disk would be returned. I declined the £25 courier Service and opted for the normal post, which they claimed would take up to 4 weeks, and asked for a posting receipt. That was at the end of July, this is September and I'm still waiting! Subsequent e-mail has gone unanswered. UPDATE: A call from a Company rep to apologize for my disk not being returned. It had not been posted and they didn't know why. It was sent by next day courier and I now have it back at no cost. But make up your own mind as there are other review sites which are less than complimentary about this Company.
from initial call to the company there service was second to num they were very helpfull ,giving what they might be able to retreave from my hard drive, they also kept me well informed on progress, everything was recovered, i cant thank them enough
This service and cost is worth way more that the sum of its parts.
While setting up a new backup hard drive, the original main hard drive simply died without warning. There was no obvious sign of damage. But I lost access to nearly 20 years of family data - the really important personal stuff like photos, correspondence music and such. I had already started to move to cloud software. So I brought new drives, changed out the RAM and graphics card (now quad display), went to Windows 8 and reinstalled all my cloud access and started that dreaded process of re-ripping all my music CD's.
At the same time I really wanted to try and get the old data recovered. Despite a trip to Maplin to buy a USB SATA cable I had no luck. So I Googled data recovery and costs. Fields came up time and time again so I called them and shipped the disk. It was reassuring to have a success based service.
In the meantime we resigned ourselves to loosing all the family photos. I was gutted. Fields came back to me and advised that new parts were required to attempt a recovery. I considered it worth the cost a minor one considering what was at stake. Bad news. No luck.
But a few days later I got another call saying 98% was accessible. The rest was history. We have all our personal data back. I'm stbborn enough to re-rip all the music to rediscover what I forgot I had.
My hardrive crashed and I thought it was the end of the world as all my work hadnt been backed-up. I sent my drive out to the guy's at Fields Data Recovery and with a few days I recieved a package with DVD's which contained all my data.
1st class service from the minute I phoned and spoke to Daniel to the return of all my lost data.
Would highly recommend and if in the future I now of anyone losing there harddrive I will put them in touch with Fields Data Recover.
On a Sunday afternoon my USB external hard drive refused to read any data from the hard drive, even although I could hear the drive running. I then did a Google search for a Data recovery company and found Fields Data Recovery UK, I then completed the simply on line email form which I them sent With the hour I had a phone call from Fields Data Recovery UK Customer Support, (Daniel Rees) asking for a few more details on the fault on my USB external have which I gave. and then I received another email form for Fields Data Recovery UK Customer Support, (Daniel Rees) giving details of their recovery system and their shipping details and address that it was to be sent too
Which I did on the Monday morning sending Royal Mail recorded delivery. Within 2 working days I had another phone call to say that they had recovered all my data from the drive, (Some 322 GB which was made up of 95 files and 3,661 folders mostly of photos and Videos clips) and was sent me a web link that I could view the details of the recovered files and folders via email.
Once I had confirmed that I was happy and paid for the recovery, Fields Data Recovery UK Customer Support, agreed to send me all the my data files on one of their external drives which had to be returned with in 7 working days after I had removed my data which I did.
The whole process was carried without hassle.. Thank You.
A hard drive that was linked to a key piece of production machinery failed. I phoned up and spoke to Jason and he bent over backwards to help us recover our data in a few days so that we could replace the piece of equipment that had failed. It was so critical because if the machine had stopped before we recovered the data we would have not been able to start the machine up again. I would highly recommend this company.
