Other than being overpriced, my previous experiences with 1800Flowers have been OK: good flowers, on time delivery.
But this past experience: not good.
I am currently in Malaysia. My wife is still back in the States. Our five year wedding anniversary was last week and I figured I would send her some flowers. Ordered them from 1800Flowers. I got my order in three days before the delivery date. Paid online. Payment went through. I wrote my wife, "Expect a surprise on the 16th!"
The 16th comes and goes and my wife writes, "Well, no suprise came today. I even drove to the end of the driveway and looked around, but nothing."
Hrrmm. No good. I wrote 1800Flowers, told them nothing showed up. They did not write back.
The 17th came and went and still no flowers.
I wrote 1800Flowers again, this time with a more strongly worded email. They wrote back, canceled my order, refunded my money, and gave me a $20 credit for a future order. My wife never got the flowers.
Sorry guys, not good enough. That is what we in on the Internets call a FAIL.
Side note: I stumbled upon this site while running a google search for "alternatives to 1-800-flowers". Haha. Sorry to hear I am not alone in my loathing for 1-800-flowers.

Valentines morning I received my From the Heart bouquet. It was a huge disappointment....the flowers were wilted, it looked like the florist threw them in a vase, lopsided with a big clump of leaves (brown).
I saw the photo on line and this bouquet should look beautiful, absolutely beautiful. This was fulfilled by Veldkamp's Flowers in Denver. I will never use them ever. My "Valentines" redelivery won't come for 1-2 days. Do not use this company. I asked if they could get another florist to deliver and they said no that company needs to see how they need to improve. My husband spent a lot of money on flowers that should have been beautiful, are coming after Valentines Day now and rather than getting a better florist to do the job they will redeliver so they can learn what they did wrong. Yes they are offering a refund and redelivery, but a florist knows better than to send out an arrangement that looks old and was done without care.
I ordered flowers and chocolates for my wife on our 8th anniversary to be sent to my wife's work. The flowers were not delivered. I called the next day to have the flowers delivered the day after our anniversary to our home. They appologized, offered to take $20 off the price, and delivery. They never arrived. I checked on line and they had canceled the order with no notice to me. Do not use this company.
800flowers.com misrepresents their pricing! On one of the first screens, they show you a certain price for the zip code you enter, however when you get to the checkout page it is much higher! I called and complained, (like that would do any good). Buyers Beware!
Flowers were quite dry and lifeless, but on time. I would avoid if possible, but in a pinch, easy to use.
First, let me start by saying that, if like my husband, you use 1-800 Flowers, you may save a few dollars, but you will pay for it... forever.
My husband isn't what I would call cheap (well, except apparently when it comes to flowers). I have top notch vacations, beautiful jewelry, and anything a girl could want... except apparently flowers on Valentine's day. I did however get stems. Dead stems with no bloom in site.
He ordered a rather inexpensive (read: CHEAP) gift from 1-800-FLOWERS (his fault, not theirs), but what we at the office deemed a totally inappropriate gift for a wife in photos on the website was a JEWEL compared to what arrived in the cardboard box.
The $1.00 store teddy bear was ratty, but nothing could prepare me for the "flowers". What was supposed to be miniture roses was actually 4 dead stems with dead, curled leaves. All of which were put into florists foam that was dry and crumbling. I went from being 100% ticked at him for being incredibly cheap, to laughing hysterically.
The operator (btw, if you are working a phone that requires you to speak English then you need to actually be able to speak English) was insulting and unhelpful. I confirmed to her what it was supposed to look like, but then she said "I know what your husband TOLD you he sent you." I replied that my husband THE DR. had no reason to lie (after all, I know what he ordered, it was pretty pathetic, but at least it was alive and had 4 blooms). What I have is dead, dead, dead. Supermarket flowers are 1000 times better than this junk.
I had both been promised that I would be getting a new bouquet on Feb. 15 that was an upgrade (hey, great Valentine's, a day late). Well, after 3 hours on the phone and speaking with 2 operators, 2 managers, and a guy at corporate, the operator that took my call SCREWED UP and there will be no delivery today. Now they are promised for tomorrow. I doubt I'm getting anything.
I am debating creating a viral video and putting it all over youtube to make everyone see what kind of company they really are.
I was going to just go out and purchase flowers from a florist, but when I went on yahoo to check my email I saw an ad for 1-800-flowers.com and thought why not. I ordered on Thurs. 2/11/2010, and the flowers were to be delivered 2/12/2010. Needless to say no flowers!!!!! I got a confirmation the evening of the 11th saying the flowers would be delivered the next day. The whole idea was to have the flowers delivered to my girlfriend's office so she would be surprised and show all her co-workers and friends. When I called 1-800-flowers.com customer service they said the flowers would be delivered Sat. 2/13/2010!!!! How nice, the office is closed for the weekend!!!! No one there Sat. or Sun. I told them that and they said there's nothing they could do since their vendor already has the order... They cannot even call the vendor to change the address. I said just deliver it to her house on Sat. then. Their response to that is, "it's too late". Once the vender has the order, nothing can be changed!!! I wish I would have seen this site before ordering... They are supposed to be giving me a total refund of $82.00, but of course it will take 7 days to be credited back to my account and I now have to go out and try to find flowers for my girlfriend one day before Valentine's Day. Oh, they did offer me a $20.00 gift certificate!!!!!!!!!! I told them what to do with it because I will NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!!!!!!!! I'M ASKING EVERYONE WHO READS THIS PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT USE 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. YOU WILL BE SORRY.
It's unfair that you can't give fewer than 1 star.
For starters, I ordered 6 items for the girlfriend's birthday:
Stuffed puppy plush
Box of assorted chocolate dipped items (ie: pretzels, etc.)
Box of assorted chocolates
Box of assorted taffies <sp?>
3 dozen assorted colored roses
Half dozen mylar balloons
I envisioned her having a fantastic birthday surprise when all of these goods were delivered to her at the workplace. They would walk in with all of this stuff, all heads turned, and her desk would be loaded. Instead, the following happened:
1.) Day before her birthday, the stuffed puppy plush arrived in a UPS box delivered with the rest of their UPS deliveries. With it was a note mentioning the other items, so the entire surprise was completely blown.
2.) Day of her birthday, the chocolate dipped items, roses, and taffy arrived. All in UPS boxes. She even had to unpack and assemble the "bouquet" of roses as can be seen here: www.javin-inc.com/flowers.jpg (image on the right is what they advertise, image on the left is what she got after pulling everything out of the UPS boxes.)
3.) Balloons and assorted chocolates arrived an hour and a half before closing time.
4.) Called 1800FLOWERS and they offered what amounted to a 2% refund (not 20%). When I asked to speak to a supervisor, was put on hold for half an hour and hung up on. Called back to be put on hold for a full hour before being hung up on.
5.) They completely ignore the fact that they state "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" on their site. If you mention it on the phone, they pretend not to hear it.
I cannot begin to describe how horrible this company is. They are blatant thieves, and scammers. They took me for literally hundreds of dollars.
