123-reg have the worst support centre I have ever come across. keep well clear or use at your own risk. I have spent the last two years moving all of my services away from them, and still they are using outdated cards to renew services that have been cancelled and they have emailed conformations of this, but still they are renewing the services. My bank are now pursuing them for fraud. beware.
I have had a series of interchanges with support that make me wonder if I am speaking some foreign language they cant understand. After these, they finally said they cant help, and i better look at legal action. The problem? Well its simple, we don't have access to OUR domain account. Surely there is a process to establish that yes we do own that domain? But no, 123-reg say they cant help. I have logged a complaint with Nominet, and failing that I guess its legal action.
I might add I have had domains for 15 years, worked with maybe a dozen different registrars around the world, and always managed always to solve problems. Sure it can be tough to provide all the documentation someone legitimately might want to establish you are legally entitled to a domain, but this is the first time a registrar has just said they cant help. If you cant access your account, there is apparently no solution. You lose the domain at 123-reg.
Ive had a very pleasant experience with an assistant called Iuliana, she has helped me very well, was always on time at answering and was quick at helping. Not only she helped me stop my account from getting fees but she also helped me with a problem I was thinking about and other assistants couldnt help me with.

I have tried every way possible to get in touch since being sent an email telling me to update details or it will cost me £10 and on trying to amend the details it will not accept them. The chat is off, the ask a question option leads back to login, the support service leads back to login, and the phone just rings on and on and on... I have lost half a day! So now put a review on their facebook page and someone has replied asking me to message them -which I have- and we will see what happens. Seems to me that the system is designed not to let customers reach support and since I started reading reviews I find I am not alone! If you want to contact them I suggest facebook!
For some reason I thought this outfit might be worth giving a try - but no, they seem to be a complete waste of time!
I have problems setting up email (won't send either on Outlook or using their webmail) so I go for Live Chat. No, can't use them ... it's before 9am. Hey, its only 10 minutes until 9 so I'll try again.
Bursting to tell them my problem I return at 5 past 9 ... no, still can't use this service because now, I'm told, they are all busy. Now you know and I know this is unlikely to be the case and the truth more likely to be they haven't appeared at work, but suppressing these thoughts I opt to raise a ticket.
I am taken to the Login page (!!!). Oh to heck with it, I know I'm already logged in but I'm not proud. I'll log in again. I do ... and I am taken to the Login page (!!!!!).
I'm getting a little angry now. But, stay cool, man, stay cool. Let's assume they know I am logged in and are taking me to the Login page for fun ... let's select Support again.
Eureka! I'm back in support ... let's select Ask a Question ... and I'm back to the Login page again (!!!!!!!!!).
It's Monday morning ... this is me, isn't it? I just don't understand the website. Stay calm and try Live Chat after 10 when I'm sure they must have got out of bed!!
It is 5 past 10. Can I use Live Chat? Of course I can't. They're still all tucked up "being busy".
Update 4 March 2014: I still don't know why it was so difficult to make contact with 123-reg.co.uk on Monday, but I can tell you I have just had a call from a nice young chap who has sorted all my woes out in record time (I think we were on the phone for no more than 10 minutes) so I have been transformed from angry and disgruntled to happy and content. Well done, 123-reg.co.uk ... if the good news continues I'll make a point of re-appraising you with more stars ... and thank you.
I have three domains with 123-reg and have required support (because I'm not particularly bright, not because they're rubbish) on a couple of occasions. Thankfully, the support team are much more useful than me, always polite and friendly, and willing to keep pushing past one's complete idiocy in order to solve the issue. The staff I have dealt with have been patient, upbeat and professional. You don't come across service like this very often so I'd highly recommend them to anyone.
Wow - I've never experienced customer service quite like 123-reg! After receiving an email with entirely incorrect account information on I wanted to query it with the customer service team. My first port of call with twitter. I messaged the 123regHelp account with my email account and log in information and they swiftly replied asking another question. I answered the following day (4/01/14). No reply. I messaged again (11/01) no reply. I messaged again on the 26/01, no reply and then again on the 14/02 before getting a reply. They then replied with another question and i replied with the answer. funnily enough i didn't hear from them again for another two weeks. With all this frustration i called the customer services team who told me the twitter account was not real, the email address that i had been emailed from was not real and the account information was real. Until, on asking more questions, I found out the twitter account was real and the email address was real!
Every stage of this procedure was appalling! No one seems to know their right from their left and whats wrong and whats right! Then I said i wanted to speak to a manager, i was denied and then the gentleman on the phone was rude and told me to go write a complaint. Honestly i don't know how this company operates!
I have always been very satisfied with the service given by 123-reg. recently I had to talk to the service centre and my enquiry was handled with politeness and efficiency. Well done! Thank you Regards Paul
Have purchased my email and website domains through 123-Reg and not only is their pricing very competitive but their after sales support - especially "Live Chat" support - is excellent and their customer service reps are very helpful and have assisted me with all my requests. Would recommend 123-Reg to anyone looking for the same services. VS
These guys employ sneaky tactics to auto renew domains and bill you (taking the money automatically) without authorisation or notice.
Took money from my PayPal account without notice or authorisation for domains I no longer required. Disputed with PayPal who refunded in full but them 123.reg removed access to my account to modify other domains that are still required.
Spoke to a guy there who I could tell was having the same conversation over this day in day out.
They just want your money and make their system complex to make it difficult to remove & cancel auto renewals.
Do yourself a favour and find another registrar. 123-reg have a very confusing (deliberately I believe) site to use and domain renewal process. At this point I can't remove my payment details without calling them. I was also signed up to automated repayments with PayPal without them making it obvious.
I had a couple of domain names with 123 reg and they sent me an email in Nov 13 saying that my card details had expired and that unless I updated them they would not be able to autorenew. As I no longer need the domains I did not update - and they took the money anyway! I feel like I have been tricked by them and when i complained they refused to reimburse me. They quoted another hidden rule, that I had only 5 days to request a refund which of course they were gleefull to point out had expired. None of this was pointed out to me, I was unaware that they had set up autorenew and they purposely mislead me in their emails. This is a disgraceful practice and I intend to take it all the way to the Financial Ombudsman as apparently autorenews are within their remit.
They totally mismanaged the administration of a domain that I had not requested to be altered but for their own corporate reasons moved / changed registrars. They did not inform me, rather through sheer incompetence switched my website off for 6 days !
These guys steal money and dont refund avoid and do not trust what ever you do. They dint turn auto renewal off and left me getting charged for 2 years for soming i clearly never used these guys make me SICK!!! AVOID Read this guys review below they have done the same thing to me!! i cant even remove my bank details to stop them stealing worst thing is there my sisters bank details and she dont need this issues!!!
123-reg takes money when not authorised to do so account now suspended
I had used 123-reg for quite some time including web hosting. I decided to go elsewhere for my web hosting as I found 123-reg to be expensive. My web hosting was not on auto renew and I got notifications that it was due to run out the site even went offline due to this. My site was running on a new hosting service and I was saving money.
A year on I noticed a PayPal payment for the full years web hosting paid to 123-reg, something I did not authorise. I contacted 123-reg and explained my web hosting cancelled a month prior why had this come out? They told me if I wanted to cancel my web hosting I would need to call the number. I again explained the hosting had run out, that no files were on the hosting and was not on auto renew and I wanted a refund, they refused.
As anyone would do I raised a dispute with Paypal and the money was refunded no contact via 123-reg. I tried to log on today to find my account suspended and a number to call. The gent explained that my account was closed due to a Paypal dispute, firstly why did they not argue the dispute at the time? (if they felt they were so right?) secondly my account is now locked so I can't look at prior tickets (crafty!) and third and my main point 123-reg took a payment from me that I did not authorise! When disputed they got in a strop and suspended my account instead of following procedure.
I have two domains and several email addresses with 123 reg & so far the company have handled everything very efficiently. The support team are always really helpful - they came recommended for their helpful service and I'm pleased I chose them.
