Excess insurance that has made me fight to recover my excess
My experience making a relatively straightforward car-hire excess claim with AIG has been appalling.
I was charged a 10,000 CZK CDW excess by the rental company following damage to an alloy wheel, alongside 1,760 CZK for replacement tyres. I submitted the claim with supporting documentation and have responded promptly to every subsequent request from AIG.
What followed has been an unnecessarily long, cumbersome and frustrating process.
The claim went well beyond the five-working-day turnaround I was initially given. Communication has largely been reactive rather than proactive, with me repeatedly having to chase for updates. Additional documents, including my driving licence and a utility bill, were only requested after I chased AIG about the delay.
After weeks of this, AIG told me that it had completed its assessment and paid just £62.51 for the tyres. The much larger 10,000 CZK CDW excess had effectively been ignored. I then had to repeatedly contact AIG again to establish what had happened.
AIG has now told me that, despite evidence that the rental company charged me the 10,000 CZK excess as a consequence of the damage, it wants further documentation showing the rental company’s underlying repair cost before it will consider reimbursing it.
This is particularly frustrating because I purchased an excess reimbursement policy specifically to protect myself against an excess charged following damage to a rental vehicle. If this additional evidence is genuinely required under the policy, why was it not requested when the claim was originally assessed? Why was it not identified during the subsequent senior-adjuster review? Why did AIG instead tell me the assessment was complete and issue a partial payment before explaining what was supposedly missing?
I have now asked for the matter to be escalated to a manager and for AIG to identify the specific policy provision on which it is relying.
The £62.51 payment is welcome, but it does not remotely compensate for the experience. A customer should not have to repeatedly chase an insurer, identify omissions in its own assessment, and argue about the fundamental purpose of an excess reimbursement policy just to get a straightforward claim properly considered.
Based on my experience, I would not purchase this cover from AIG again.
Totally avoid ,it's a scam
Totally avoid the travel insurance from their UAE unit. It's a scam. In our whole life we only once had to claim and it was just a phone call and email. The UAE chaps are a scam. Looking for evermore loopholes to avoid paying the claim. It's borderline unethical. My son was increasingly unwell while were waiting to board the flight. The airline staff in lounge were stellar. My son and wife had to be off-boarded. We had to buy new tickets for two days later. All circumstantial evidence provided. Yet, they keep looking for more drama. Two months on . Still reviewing the claim. Avoid like a plague , or buy from regulated market UK. It's a scam.
Extremely disappointed with AIG’s…
Extremely disappointed with AIG’s service.
I accidentally reported my phone as lost, but I immediately contacted AIG to cancel the claim/report. Unfortunately, the cancellation was not handled correctly, and as a result, I have now been unable to use my phone for 12 days.
What is even more frustrating is that no one in customer service can give me a clear answer about when my phone will be usable again. Every time I contact them, I get the same response: they don’t know when the issue will be resolved and cannot provide me with a timeframe.
It is unacceptable to be without a working phone for 12 days because of an issue that should have been corrected immediately. I understand that mistakes can happen, but the lack of communication, accountability, and a clear solution from AIG has been extremely frustrating.
I expected much better service from an insurance company like AIG. I hope someone takes responsibility for this situation and provides a solution as soon as possible.
I had submitted a claim for flight…
I had submitted a claim for flight cancellation via my Mastercard Black. The claim was handled by AIG. On 14 July, I received an email from AIG stating that the claim had been approved and that the money would be credited to my account within 7 working days. By the end of July, I still hadn’t received anything, so I rang AIG; they said they would look into it and I’d get a reply within 7 days. I’ve heard nothing and received no money to this day. So I rang them again and spent over an hour on the phone. Once again, they tried to fob me off by saying I’d get a reply within 7 days. Naturally, I didn’t accept this, but you hit a complete dead end. It’s beyond belief. The claim has been approved by Mastercard, the money is available, but for some reason they’re holding it back. I’ve also passed the case on to my bank, which issued the card to me. They’ve promised to send an email as well, but my trust in AIG has plummeted to zero.
The question is: where is my money?
Worst experience ever this company is a…
Worst experience ever this company is a bunch of BS had way more than two weeks just to process a claim spoke to a personnel for more than four hours which he couldn’t create a ticket wasn’t able to do. It went on the laptop, created a ticket in less than two minutes he tried for four hours and couldn’t do it. What a joke don’t ever get AppleCare. This is a whole bunch of BS. Nothing but a bunch of scams to this day I still haven’t received the phone. It’s been more than two weeks the worst service ever. if I could give him zero stars I would, but it doesn’t allow me to.
need better Processes
Hi, I have waited the exact number of days before I can put this complaint in, just 5 Buisness days. I am still waiting for my iPhone to be collected and shipped from Apple, bear in mind, it's been ready for collection since Monday the 3rd. AIG pick up my phone... and send it to me.....
AIG is not looking out for you
Absolutely save your money and do not buy Apple iPhone anti-theft insurance. I filed a claim within an hour of having my iPhone stolen. I received a case number from Apple stating to wait to hear from AIG. After five days with no follow up, I called AIG, the representative told me that due to a clerical error my claim number didn't exist. He told me to resubmit for a new claim. AIG declined that claim even though my find my was on. I’ve spoken toseveral AIG representatives, and you can sense that they had no intentions of replacing my phone. Lesson learned, don't put any faith in an insurance company, especially AIG. Also, just skip the insurance altogether and take the risk of losing your phone. At least you save the insurance fee, because AIG will never replace it.
IF i could give zero star i would!!
IF i could give zero star i would!!! UK law and england needs to kick out this company in UK because its scamming people please dont pay and go through this company ive had the worst experience ever ! i have claimed made on wednesday the 8th and yet i’ve called 6 times sent emails many time no response at all to my email and that staff didn’t help me at all AI actually so much better then these people why you answering the phone all the time when lie lie and not give my replacement phone when i have paidj £109 and i have paid £12 every single month for what ?! apple needs to hear me and take my comment and my formal complaints keep messing around with me and back and forth and said stuck in shippemtn says approved and thats all !! aboid avoid
APPLE/AIG Theft and Loss SCAM
This is the biggest scam. They apparently give every ‘customer’ the runaround. Review after review of them is terrible. I am not surprised! I have been given an estimate of July 20th for a replacement for a phone which was lost on June the 8th! And my claim is APPROVED! Well, they took my credit card number first thing! And now they say they will charge that card when it ships. Well, nothing from them at all and the deductible to be charged is to be about $150. I am spending that to wait over a month to get an approved loss claim replacement of device. That is a whole lot of BS right there. End of story. Lesson learned. Insurance, all of it, truly has proven to be a scam. And Apple has to thank for these scumbags.
Lie lies lies and more lies.
Lie lies lies and more lies.
I've resorted to sending all correspondence and call recordings to Chris rash, Eric Anderson and the board of directors as aig are in breach of contract and yet still giving excuses not to replace a device despite the claim being APPROVED. The latest laughable side is aig blames apple, apple blames aig so I put both parties on a conference call and listening to their excuses before they realised they were on a call together
DO NOT BUY APPLE CARE
I think this company is a group of scammers.
This experience has made me feel deeply disappointed in the way some American companies treat their customers.
I have contacted them repeatedly, yet every email has been ignored. My claim has now been left unresolved for nearly two months.
One of my American friends has even called them on my behalf. Every time, they promise that someone will contact me, but no one ever does.
At this point, it feels as though they have no intention of resolving my claim. I cannot help but wonder whether they assume that, because I am Japanese, I will eventually give up.
SO DO NOT BUY APPLE CARE !!!!!!
It's waste of money!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could give 0 stars
I wish I could give 0 stars. No help at all been waiting for 3 months. Starting to contact an attorney.
Fair price and decent coverage
AIG offered a good price for the coverage I needed, and the purchase process was straightforward. I felt the policy was good value overall. Some of the policy wording could be made easier to understand, but I’m happy with the decision.
Efficient and clear
AIG kept things simple and made the process easy to follow.
horrible experience - just cancel apple care and get something else
horrible experience - Apple Care bait and switch to AIG!! AIG is a terrible company with terrible customer service. DO NOT BUY APPLE CARE - lost or stolen phones go to this 3rd party business, which is NOTHING like Apple. Waiting over 7 days for a replacement phone in 2026??? Getting bounced back and forth between this company and Apple is a joke! BUYER BEWARE.
Useful app
The app is easy to use and the layout is clear. A few more features would improve it.
Warning to Travelers: AppleCare+ / AIG Loss Insurance Fails in an Emergency
Warning to Travelers: AppleCare+ / AIG Loss Insurance Fails in an Emergency
I am writing this to warn anyone who pays for AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss (underwritten by AIG). If you actually lose your phone and need the emergency coverage you paid for, expect broken promises and zero urgency.
My phone was lost while I was traveling abroad. I submitted my official insurance claim on June 1st, and it was officially approved on June 2nd. AIG sent me a confirmation stating: "Tracking information should be provided to you via email within 1-2 business days."
Today is June 10th—over a week later—and I have received absolutely nothing. No tracking number, no updates, and no replacement phone.
I called both Apple Support and AIG today to find out where my phone is, and both companies gave me the exact same script: "There is nothing we can do, you just need to keep waiting." They casually told me it could take until June 17th just to get a replacement device.
The reality of this insurance:
Broken Timelines: They promise 1-2 business days for shipping info, but will happily leave you stranded in a foreign country without a phone for over two weeks.
Zero Accountability: Apple blames AIG, AIG blames the system, and both expect the customer to just deal with the isolation and safety risks of being abroad without cellular connection.
Do not waste your money on AppleCare+ Theft and Loss if you expect it to protect you while traveling. I will be canceling my policy and looking for a third-party insurer that actually honors their timelines.
Good value Policy
The price was fair and the coverage suited what i needed. Some policy wording could be simpler

Title: Good digital experience, minor improvements needed
Body:The online tools made the process much easier than I expected. I could upload documents, check information, and manage things without much effort. It would be helpful if the website gave clearer timelines, but the service itself was good.
Worked as advertised (interruption insurance)
I was honestly little worried after reading reviews. I get flight interruption insurance through my credit card and I had a flight get cancelled due to weather and rebooked for the following morning. Saved my receipts for meals, transportation, and the hotel and filed my claim at the end of my trip. 2 weeks later (10 business days) I got an email saying my claim was successful and a check was in the mail.
