Awful Waste of Time and Lack of Common Sense

My work phone was technically owned by Computacenter so I had to return the phone to them upon leaving. I filled out my leaver form and was given a date and location to return the phone. However this date was a week before I was to leave (I needed the phone to log into work systems) at an address 250 miles away from where I was working.

I replied to the e-mail saying this wouldn't work for multiple reasons and received no reply for almost a week. I also called their number I found on Google 9 times (no number was provided on the e-mail). Every time a lady said she would put me through to the relevant department but then it rang out with no response.

My employer had had so many complaints about Computacenter that their sharepoint had a big banner saying they will not get involved in the return process at all.

A couple days before they wanted to pick up the phone I got an e-mail response saying they've cancelled the collection. Nothing further. I asked for them to pick up the phone from the office on my last day and was told they could not pick up the phone from any office. I asked them to pick it up from where I was staying and they said they also couldn't do that. I offered to post it to them and they said that was not an option for me. They could only pick it up from the address 250 miles away.

I was leaving the country the day after my last day for multiple weeks so told them that wouldn't be possible for a while. They responded that they would be in contact with my work e-mail address to agree the return. I informed them I would no longer have access to this after my last day and they said they could not use any other contact e-mail nor use any phone number and would still e-mail my work e-mail the details of the pick up. If I didn't follow their instructions (that I would never receive) the phone would be marked as stolen.

After again explaining this was not possible, a different person gave me a date weeks in the future to have the phone picked up and told me it could be any time between 8am and 8pm. It took 6 hours of being sat by the front door (so I wouldn't miss the delivery man and have the phone marked as stolen) it was eventually collected.

Hours of my time and their time were wasted, and at no point was anyone available for a phone call to sort it out.

I would never consider working here again

I would never consider working at that company. There is a glaring absence of a black community, and individuals from the black community are seldom seen in leadership positions. It feels as though they are treated more like laborers than valued employees. The workplace environment is quite unpleasant, as it predominantly caters to a white demographic and lacks diversity and inclusion. This focus on a single demographic creates a culture that is unwelcoming and unbalanced.
