COMPLETE SCAM

This website is a complete SCAM. This is the full story of my experience with this site:
http://freelancer-site-reviews.blogspot.co.uk/

Basically, be aware of section 3.1 of the terms and conditions of this site. It says:

"Freelancer.com reserves the right to terminate the participation of any User without reason..."

And that is exactly what happened to me. One day they decided to close my account, without providing any reason for this closure. I've contacted them many times, but everytime I got the same copy paste response:

Hello,
Thank you for mailing us back.
Unfortunately, the decision regarding the closure of your account was reviewed and final. Note that this has been carefully decided. Also, please note of the site's Terms and Conditions, section 3.1. Please visit http://www.freelancer.com/page.php?p=info/terms

Freelancer.com -- 100% FRAUD

I have been defrauded by the freelancer.com website. I submitted a project for bid, and two freelancers accepted the project and did not deliver the work as promised. After multiple attempts to communicate with the freelancers as well as customer support on freelancer.com I have made zero progress with resolving the problem. No delivery of work, yet the freelancers are still requesting payment. Freelancer.com has TAKEN money from my credit card for the projects. Over $300.00. Where did the funds go??? This is fraudulent activity, and I have reported these transactions to my bank. DO NOT USE FREELANCER.COM.

SHOCKINGLY DECEITFUL LAZY COMPANY AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! *POSSIBLE FRAUD WITHHOLDING MONEY AND LYING*

Deposited some mony, realised I could go with someone else, they then accused me of doing suspicious activity rendering my account useless.

I made a claim with Paypal as freelancer was typically useless in being able to accept my reasoning for doing what I was doing.

Then for them to carry on saying Paypal are holding funds for a reversal, which I have a recorded message from paypal saying with no doubt what so ever they are not holding funds.

In Short Freelancer Are A Lying Deceitful Company You'd Best Avoid At All Costs, They're Idiots Lazy And Down Right Incompetent

Never In My Life As A Freelancer For 3 Years Have I Ever Dealt With A Stupid Company Like This

Next Action That Must Be Taken Will Be Through The Small Claims Courts, This Is Not An Idle Threat, I Will Be Publicising This As Well With All Court Claims.

Rather than go through the courts, it'd be easier to make a claim through my bank, have done that, they have made a temporary credit whilst I explain what's happened on the account. They will be contacting freelancer directly as this was not through my Paypal account and resolve this.

I am never going to use freelancer ever again and would stronly recommend people to avoid this company at all costs, they lie and use deceit.

*UPDATE*

I have been speaking to a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer and they have told me this could be seen as fraud, or certainly seen by my bank as financial fraud.

Their constant lies and deceit are not tolerated and will be taken very seriously. I am pursuing them via every possible avenue, if they think I am going to back down from a possible fraud incident by them holding my money I accidentally deposited into my account they can think again.

ALL I WANT IS MY MONEY BACK, YET THEY HAVE THE STUPIDITY TO THINK THEY'RE ABOVE THE LAW, AND USE LIES TO GET THEIR OWN WAY, AVOID THIS LYING DECEITFUL COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

They really think they can delude me into believing this load of nonsense?
"Your account has been automatically limited due to the reversal of one or more deposits made from your Paypal account. Please explain the reason for the reversal."

Being an ex Paypal employee, they wouldn't have to make a reversal/refund until a resolution is made and in anycase Paypal woukln't (by law) be authorised to to hold it and lie about it, they are culpable to financial policy in the UK, it's not exactly hard to understand. Lying company. Lying about this could be deemed as fraud and nothing more.

I have also made my local trading standards aware of what's happened and my best possible course of action to get a refund from this and get this matter resolved, I have told my local trading standards about freelancer.co.uk's lies.

The worst ever online experience

Long story short, Freelancer.com stole me $2000! I completed 2 big projects, one translation project worth $650 and a fully developed website worth $1350. When the funds were released, I decided to open up another account with freelancer.com, to bid on translation jobs only with one account and development jobs with the other account. 2 days later, freelancer.com closed both of my accounts, explaining me that I breached their Terms and Conditions by opening the other account. I apologized and requested the funds to be released to my paypal account. Below their answer:

"Hi,

Thanks for mailing us back.

Note that in the event of termination, Users found in violation of the User Agreement will not receive any credit or payment from Freelancer.com. Without limiting Freelancer.com's other remedies, to the extent you are in violation of this User Agreement, you must pay Freelancer.com for all fees owed to us and reimburse us for all losses and costs (including any and all Freelancer.com employee time) and reasonable expenses (including legal fees) related to investigating such breach and collecting such fees. You agree that Freelancer.com is entitled to deduct such charges directly from any existing balance in the offending Account, or any other Freelancer.com Account owned by you. Kindly review our Terms & Conditions for additional information.

We hope for your understanding.

They are not only stealing my money, but also send threatening emails. If you read between the lines, they are telling me: "Stop bothering us, or we will send you an invoice even higher than your account balance".

I filed a legal complaint against them.

Folks, do yourself a favor, and never ever use this scam.

Freelancer is a SCAM! Beware!

Hello All, I bid for a IPSec VPN project for 100 USD and I won it. After I successfully complete the project the employer (He had around 15 positive feedbacks) paid the total with 5 star positive feedback. Later I tried to withdraw the funds which I earned from this project and freelancer rejected the withdrawal saying that "Unfortunately we were unable to process your withdrawal request. Decline reason: Funds originated from an account that is currently under review." Therefore I contacted freelancer through their support ticket system and they asked me to contact the employer and ask him to resolve his account issue. Next I contacted him and begged him to resolve his account issue because I'm burning for nothing I did. What he said is, Now the Project is over and he paid the total. He doesn't want his freelancer account anymore, Simply he left freelancer. Again I contacted freelancer and said what he mentioned. The reply was "For security reasons, the funds on the employer's account has been put on hold until the account issues have been resolved.". I know I will never receive my funds because the employer will never resolve his account issues by submitting the documents which freelancer asked him to submit. Finally he got what he want, freelancer got what they want (Freelancer fees. They refund the fees but I can't withdraw it because minimal withdrawal amount is 30 USD) and I lost my money. This is for you mates, don't use their site. I don't want to see this thing happening to you. If you want proofs, please type your email address, I will forward what I got.

Freelancer Takes Their Fee Even When Work is Not Completed

Freelancer is only interested in getting their fees, not in doing right by clients. I posted a nearly $2000 project, which wound up in arbitration because of an incompetent worker. Arbitration dragged on for many weeks, in large part because the arbitrator would only respond one single time per day, if even that. Time is money and this began to get expensive as well as stressful. In the end, after full arbitration and even an additional appeal by the worker, I was awarded a refund, but freelancer would not refund their fee. I got nothing for my money, but freelancer won't refund my money, which amounted to about $80. I will never use them again. I have had better results from elance.

Ridiculous site

Complete scam. Freelancer.com rips off people, and you can't even delete your own profile after siging up. It took the support team (which seems to only answer questions every third day) about one week to delete my profile, after trying hard to make me to stay. I've heard a lot of bad stuff about this place, and I can only say that my own experience confirms that. This place is a scam, that rips off people, thats it.

I love freelancer.com

I love freelancer.com because it fully changed my life style, I got many clients from this platform.

Now I have completed 427 projects on freelancer and really happy:)

I planned to share my freelancing stories with newbies to give them motivation and encourage them to join freelancer.com

I admit few clients are very bad, who steal work and leave bad review too but this is not freelancer.com fault, we should be careful in milestones.

Here is profile of happy freelancer: http://www.freelancer.com/u/sn66.html

and here is link of freelancing stories to share freelancing experience with newbies: http://freelancing-stories.com/

You pay, they earn and left you in trouble without any support...

Freelancers, stay away from this site! They absolutely don't care about you! The only things they look are money (% on bid, % on payments, % on withdrawals).
You (as freelancer) didn't have *REALLY* any security about your work will be paid in full from an employer.
Yes because *ALL* payments made from an employer can be reversed on *ANY* time!!!!!!!! And yes, their FAQ told exactly opposite.

They wrote in a ticket I opened because 320$ (yes, 320$!!!) was reversed to my employer that:

"Thank you for contacting Freelancer.com Support.

The reversal was caused by your employer's account issue. Since we already sent an email to your employer, and you have a copy of it, you may contact your employer directly outside our site to settle this matter."

So, if an employer fail, the freelancer, EVEN AFTER he did his job went slapped!!!! ...and, remember, you pay to be a freelancer.com...

Really a bad bad bad bad experience...

Again, stay away...

Rip off freelancing website

I was a new user on FreeLancer.com when I posted an urgent project to be done immediately.
It costed me around 10AUD to upgrade my post to an urgent state and then numerous of (not to mention) Indians, and Africans started to request me to delegate my project to them for a certain amount of money. One of the worst thing was that I posted that my project needed a person who deeply knows engineering skills in order to do that. However due to my nature of urgency, I gave this job (7 days to complete) to a Kenyan writer with I dont know the background was, he had good reviews. I asked for daily updates, was given the first one on day 4 and ALL he wrote was just re-arranging the words of the documents I gave them. I was disappointed, I asked for the milestone to be cancelled. Now I'm being sarcastic of all the good reviews they get, were they getting good review by creating an account to add good reviews for themselves so they look good to project posters?? And this website is an Australian website but most of the writers (I can say 95% or more) are either from India, or African countries with some of them with very dodgy Resume.
In total, this is the total money I spent:
Transferred to FreeLancer.com:
1. Urgent upgrade =10.44AUD
2. For posting a project = 7.40AUD
3. Milestone requested by writer = 215.25AUD
This is what I got back from withdrawing the money
204.50AUD in total (currency changes and stuff).

Say, I disregard the urgent upgrade since I needed it and say I was required to pay the 7.40aud to post a project as required by their term, its ok. However how come I only get back 204.50 out of 215.25 I deposited to them??? And now I still have to wait for at least 15 days (WOW 15 DAYS??) for my fund to be returned to me.. Imagine if there were thousands of employer like me depositing our funds to them to be hold for 15 days, they can make huge investments by just doing that.. Bad place to waste ur money

freelancer.com; ridiculously low bids, erroneously cut and disputes amounts due

www.freelancer.com gets most traffic of freelancers, old and new, in view of its convenient and easy to remember domain name. In my opinion, that's the first trap laid out.

I am seriously considering sticking to www.odesk.com and www.elance.com as they are more publicized, professional and have far more good reviews. I will close my www.freelancer.com account for good due to a couple of reasons.

First, freelancers on www.freelancer.com have to bid and compete for projects. Freelancers from third world nations, like India and Pakistan, have ruined the market.

They are more dominant in bidding as they can go really cheap to a level that is "ridiculously" low. They are able to stoop so low due to favorable exchange rates.

They surely need to establish “minimum bid” policy on projects and quality control on freelancers.

Second, www.freelancer.com takes such a long time to process my payment and at the end of it, it keeps disputing several payments on work done with all sorts of excuses.

As a result, this held back the whole sum that I have requested "cash out".

I have been doing freelancing as a full time job via www.freelancer.com for almost three years now. As my numbers add up, it keeps disputing and delaying payment of amounts due to me. It's habitual. Recently, they froze my account at their whims and fancy.

I give a big NO recommendation on www.freelancer.com to anybody. DO not waste your time and effort. Consider www.odesk.com or www.elance.com. They honor payments promptly.

Awful

They make it easy to sign you up and take your money then they ask you to provide information to verify your I.D. I upload 10 documents and 5 emails to help desk asking what else they needed but 10 days later they still had my account suspended. The help desk is a fantasy. Only after I posted my frustration on a forum it became clear other people were going through the same thing. Avoid at all costs. Worst of all the delay meant I lost two freelancers and exceeded the deadline on my project. Unable to go elsewhere because my funds were locked in, Out of total desperation I rang the credit card company and started fraudulent procedings. Mastercard has a lot more muscle than me.Luckily it didnt come to this but I would recommend you check with your bank and ask them how easy it is to follow something like this up. When my account was finally cleared. to withdraw my money took 2 weeks!! This is standard apparently on your first withdrawal. It all a con to hold on to your money for as long as possible. Funny how they are about to float on the stock exchange - is this a coincidence? I dont think so. Since then have been on Odesk and Elance and no such problems.

Paramont of incompetency...

After I dared to criticize them, their personnel started personal attacks on me. this included blackmailing, smearing and compromising my privacy. Made it official - they just crawled under a rock and pretend they are not there. Never cooperate with them as they may use your personal data whenever they like it.

Awful customer service.

I paid for some article writing from a seller claiming to be from the UK. Paid the seller upfront. The seller provided unreadable incoherent nonsense, and was blatantly not English. The seller then claimed I hadn't paid and loged a dispute. I was forced to pay money for a member of freelance to look at the dispute, which they then awarded in the sellers favour!

I will never use this awful site again. What a joke.

Excellent, for both businesses and freelancers!!

I have been a user of freelancer.com for over 2 years. I started out as a freelancer to find jobs and now, I also get work done by other freelancers through the website.
And, I must say, my experience has been fantastic. I got hired for a project within a week of joining. There are numerous employers and a great number of projects going through. On other hand, while I wanted to get an article written, I just posted a project for free an received over 20 bids to choose from. And, the work was completed extremely well by my freelancer and was pretty cost effective compared to the agency locally.

What excites me about freelancer.com is its nice, user-friendly and ever-improving interface, lower costs than everyone else in the market, plus, excellent support staff including concierge services. Moreover, the staff is ever ready to listen to your suggestions for the website and rewarding you for them, too. Isn't this great?
And, freelancer.com is triple Webby Awards' winner for employment category. What more?

Recently, freelancer.com has started contests in every job category, and contests are a nice way to get the work done as well as to earn for freelancers.
Overall, I am more than satisfied with freelancer.com and highly recommend it for finding jobs as well as getting them done.

Money before service and dumb website

1st anyone using this site will soon notice how user unfriendly it is. Finding what you want is like a maze and the pages take a long time to load.
If you want to withdraw a deposit for the 1st time you have to wait 2 weeks which really put me out.
The site charges for everything - even editing your job!

All in all this website is geared up to make money for itself ahead of providing service. It's just a dumb, badly designed website - ...... and If you can - go elsewhere!

completely unusable

I second everything below. Long term Vworker, liked them. They sold out and cashed in, and this freelance site is not usable in any way. No one will answer questions, no one will respond, no one will call you back. Their whois record Is fake. No idea what support means. Oh, and I too wish I'd had one iota of an idea that the site wouldn't work. Perfect example of personal greed run rampant. Broken trust. So sad.
