This company must be the most under staffed in the country. Have you ever had to ask for something to be refunded? You have to wait for a senior branch member to come to the till to authorize a refund. Simple enough you'd think? But not when there is a queue of about ten people because there is only one till working and the senior member is nowhere to be found!! Highly annoying. But cashiers don't seem to be bothered at all. Once had a Parrot hands free fitted to my wife's car. Simple enough you'd think? NO! An hour after we were told it would be ready we went back to collect the car only to see it surrounded by a load of the 'technichian's' mates (not halfords employees) all lending a hand to get it finished. Unbelievable!! Have you ever tried phoning a branch with an enquiry? Simple enough you'd think? NO! Try it yourself and see. If you are lucky enough not to get the message asking you to phone back because the "In store colleagues are too busy to answer the phone" message , see how long you wait before someone answers the extension the unknowledgable assistant has put you through to. Its an absolute joke!! The worst customer experience of any store I have been in for decades. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
I purchased a bike rack for my mountain bike about 8 months ago, less than 2 months later the legs had broke on it. I popped into the store only to be told that the 7kg battery on the rack was too heavy for the rack which was rated at 25kg. I phoned Customer support who said that it would be replaced free of charge, great I thought until I got to the store only to be told that they would replace it but if it breaks again then it wouldn't be replaced. Surely as long as its under warranty they have to replace it no matter how many times it breaks due to a bad design flaw. Then of course there's the fact that they can never seem to get my orders in stock for when they say they will be. 3 times I have ordered from the store in Warndon, worcester and 3 times it has not been in stock for collection when they say it would be. The 1 order took 4 trips to their store for them to finally get it right. It's just a shame that I'm stuck with shopping with them.
We ordered/reserved a Raleigh Clubman Road Bike online last night 13/02/14, at lunch time we get a call from the Westwood Margate Store to say it is not the correct price, so they will not honor it, even the manager could not be asked to use his time to make the call, some other poor person got the short straw. Customer services said it was the correct price and that it was reduced to this on the 13/02/14, and that it would be a head office directive for the store to sell it to us at this price. 15 mins later, cant do as was a mistake online and we have not paid, just reserved. So bad luck really and we can offer discount on full price. Anyone else been treated so badly?? Debra in Broadstairs, Kent
Halfords in Crawley failed my MOT due to a tree shaped air freshener hanging from my rear view mirror!!! I was speechless!!!!!! My screen wash was also full when I arrived, on my journey home I went to use it and it was empty?!!! Thanks halfords! Jobs worth, money grabbing, time wasting, rude staff!!! Won't be going back!
Took my husbands car in for a full service, the cost £175, for this you get a oil filter and oil change - the rest is all checks - we wanted the vehicle services i.e change spark plugs, air filter, brake fluid top up. Why would anyone in their tight mind pay someone to tell them the plugs need changing at full service interval. They told us the aircon was empty, this cost a further £35. For the £210 we could have purchased all parts and I mean ALL parts (checked on a service) for £120 (incldues synthetic oil), doing this ones self is not rocket science & paid £40 for the brake pads to be fitted. this would have cost less in total than the full service CHECK, now we have to buy the parts and still fit them. Thank you Halfords for telling us they need changing; Eventually word will get out, this type of service does not bode well for companies in this day and age.
We had aa breakdown cover and were told about Halfords by the AA!! Long story shortish Halfords blew my ecu when they failed to diagnose a wiring loom fault and instead replaced coil packs! AA said they did not recommend Halfords it doesn't mean anything to be on their network of garages!! My car ended up going to a main dealer who replaced the ECU and wiring loom, Halfords/AA paid for repair. Car went back to Halfords to do the MOT as they were doing this as a gesture of good will due to the issues they had caused!!! Car started to play up again after MOT Halfords returned it to main dealer who discovered someone had swapped the brand new NGK spark plugs for a mismatch damaged set! Got told car failed MOT it needed 2 x Anti Roll bar arms one of which we supplied one they said they would pay for. Today my anti roll bar has detached from the car this is the one we supplied and on investigation the other one has not been replaced at all nor have the coil packs!! Been told by a friend who is a mechanic that the is error was extremely dangerous!! On MOT certificate it has an advisory that the battery was insecure but as we were reluctant to collect the car from Halfords we collected the car from the main dealer who inspected the battery and said it was fitted perfectly!! I didn't have my car from 16th December-16th January although I was given a hire car after 2 weeks which Halfords seem to think meant I shouldn't be moaning!!!! I have spoken to Halfords senior management this evening and hope something will be done but will be contacting VOSA first thing on Monday morning!!! I had used my car to take my elderly father to hospital an 80 mile round trip, to collect an 8 year old from school for a friend and also my 3 week old granddaughter I seriously feel physically sick when I think what could of happened!!!
Attended Halfords,Western Avenue, Cardiff at 12:30 p.m Sunday 2/2/14.Looked like only emplyee present was manning the till with a lengthy queue in toe. After 15 mins. I went into car park to be told by a Halfords employee." It's my dinner time that's why I'm working on my car, I'll only be a couple more minutes and I'll try to sort you out." After 5 mins. and no joy an employee (bike mechanic I think) said he would try to sort things. Jason spent 20 minutes with me to source an item that I had seen online that was not a shop stock item. His manner and attitude to customer satisfaction was exemplary.I later learned that he wasn't on duty(not being paid) only tiying up from his previous shift .Halfords should recognise efforts of employees like Jason who played down his roll as a worthy model employee. My parting remark to Jason regarding his work ethic. WHATEVER THEY PAY YOU SON IS NOT ENOUGH..CHEERS.
Saw the advert of Garmin satnav - free installation and demo etc. Asked member of staff to explain the satnav I had in mind: "It is 3½" and works in UK and ROI" I was told. Yep, it said as much on the ticket. After persuading him to find it on-line where I could see more details, I asked if it could be installed only to be told that they "didn't do fitting" but he could 'stick it in the car' for me. Being a lady, I refrained from telling him precisely where he could stick his satnav. TRAIN YOUR STAFF, HALFORDS! Service is dreadful.
Took my mgf to Halfords Exeter because I was finding it hard to change gear. I was told the clutch had a leak and was quoted £625.25 to fix the problem. I decided to get a second opinion and found out that it was the slave cylinder that had the leak which was changed for £66. I complained on Halfords web site about the £529.25 extra they wanted and have been told by an area manager that the £625.25 was the worst case scenario price and when they sussed out it was only the slave cylinder they would of charged accordingly !!! Yeh right !!
"New" brake light bulb fitted at Neath branch last week. After 2 days dashboard lights and sidelights came on when I braked. Took it to my local garage to find that wrong bulb had been fitted and had messed up electrics. New bulb fitted. Problem solved. Shan't use Halfords again.
Took our car to Mansfield Halfords for an MOT big mistake! Told the car had failed on brakes (pads needed replacing fair enough and handbrake not sufficient) took the car away to have the work they said needed doing (because it was considerably cheaper) then took it back and paid a small amount for the retest only to be told the car also needs new brake calipers which was not on the fail sheet. Not happy at all, feel like Halfords are trying to con people because i took the car back to the garage that did the brakes and they passed it and said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the calipers.
My partner took her vehicle in for a mot today at Chelmsford branch - failed on exposed tire cord. Recent you take it to the tire place next door, which we did. Even the tire fitter couldn't find the exposed cord
I had the unfortunate experience as had a AA breakdown repairs cover and Halfords Autocentre is in their network of approved garages (would you believe??). The staff firstly try to RIP you off by claiming whatever is the problem as its not covered and to fix it will cost you XXX even before speaking with AA and when i complained to AA they said they have authorised a repair and is COVERED!!!
The guys end up doing some shoddy and unacceptable job with the problem remaining unresolved and on complaining to their head office they DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH IT!!!!!
Ridiculously even AA can't do anything in this matter even though they have referred me as their customer to Halfords Autocentre!!!
PARTNERS IN CRIME - AVOID AT ALL COSTS (PREFERABLY BOTH)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have recently taken my car into the Victoria Road store in Fenton, Stoke on Trent for its MOT and annual service. needless to say £800.00 later after apparently needing 2 new tyre's. 2 new break pads and discs (including bearings) and the middle pipe on the exhaust. I thought fair enough if it all needs doing. However since I have had my car back the steering wheel began to shake quite violently at reaching 60MPH. and I could still here the exhaust blowing. I took the car back where they said they just needed balancing as one of the stick on weights may have come off, and they would look at my exhaust. I give them the benefit of the doubt as I have used Halfords for years. I went to collect the car and they said the exhaust wasn't blowing its because it was new and once it was "Carboned up it would be fine" they also said they had sorted the balancing out. I had to travel to Coventry yesterday on the M6. I reached 70MPH and again the steering wheel started to shake violently not only this but now a humming noise is coming from the back wheels. I rang the auto centre and explained the problems to be told it sounds like the bearing. I explained that they should of been new when you replaced the discs that's what you said. the reply was well some of them come with them and some don't. bring it and we will take a look at it. I am fed up with HALFORDS my car was fine before it went in and now its like driving a death trap. I am going to take it somewhere independent and contact trading standards as this service is shocking.
Ive used halfords over the years for a lot of different things. Car spares, cleaning products, bike parts etc. I've had two awful experiences at the Old Kent Road store where the staff have taken an eternity to even respond to customers so I definitely won't go there again but I've found the Sevenoaks and Bromley stores to be good. Halfords has started selling some decent bike makes online and its pretty handy to be able to order something, then pick it up when you can as opposed to missing a package in the post. They also offer a 10% discount on all purchases to british cycling members so if your buying something of value it pays for itself straight away.
been to many Halfords stores but CROMER is just brilliant !!! The store manager Andy, so helpful, and knowledgable. Tony just serviced my bike, took such care and attention to it, came out like brand new. nothing is too much trouble for these guys. try CROMER halfords if you want decent old fashioned service! and qualified mechanics !
Took my car for the inspection. Got the car to them with 100% working exhaust, after collection, the exaust was snapped and causes to sound like a tractor. Quote £100+. The exact definition of cash cows!! Trading Standards will be informed! Avoid if possible!!
It took over one hour and 3 staff to fit my seat My car seat was fitted incorrectly It was very wobbly I drove home with my baby in it not knowing it was unsafe After watching a maxi-cosi demo on utube I manged to fit it myself safely Disgusted with them I paid more for the seat as I though they had the best fitting service I WAS WRONG !!
I popped into Halfords, Salisbury, yesterday evening at about 5.30, as I had somehow lost my front number plate. The young woman who served me, Claire C, was incredibly friendly, efficient and polite and, although I had been in a foul mood, I was soon lifted from it because of her incredibly positive attitude and professional service. A young man named Steve then attached the number plate to my car. Despite the fact that it was freezing cold, dark, late and my car stubbornly refused to have the plate attached (Steve tried three different methods before one finally worked) he was utterly charming and personable, and couldn't have been more polite. I rarely come across such helpful staff and I wanted to say 'Thank you' to both Claire and Steve, as they made my day.
Bought a bike for my daughter's birthday. The gear change mechanism was so stiff that she couldn;t change gear at all. I tried it and neither could I. I took it back and they kept it a couple of days. When I went back, the man dealing with it tried to tell me everything was OK. I tried the gear change and it still was too stiff to move. When I told him, he said 'yes, I know, they often get like that and there's nothing we can do'.....
I took it to a local independent bike specialist to fix. His words amused me...'did you get this from Halfords did you? They put a lot of work our way!'
