Good product and good service

I have been wanting an e-reader for quite some time but didn’t want to use amazon. I came across the Rakuten Kobo site in my search and immediately knew this is what I wanted! I saved up and purchased the Kobo Clara BW. I absolutely love it! My eyes don’t get tired reading on this screen, I can easily change brightness and other settings, it fits in my bags so easily, and I can connect it easily to my local library to check out books. My nine year old avid reader borrows her own books from the library and reads them nonstop. She is already asking for one of her own! We highly recommend this reader!

Three reasons I am not renewing my VIP subscription
1. I am occasionally charged a few cents more than the advertised AUD price
2. On three occasions I have started a series of novels only to find the last book, or books, not available and had to go to Kindle to buy them
3. The super points earned are only available to discount books that Kobo designate.

Had a rough start where trying to transfer something I owned DRM free from Apple Books downloaded 2,000 files and I had to do a full factory reset. I was worried, but since then and not using Apple Books no problems at all. Good battery life, responsiveness, and crisp screen. Perfect size too as I prefer smaller books.

⚠️ BE CAREFUL BUYING EBOOKS FROM KOBO — MY EXPERIENCE

I paid ₱599 for an ebook on Rakuten Kobo, believing I was purchasing the book presented on the Kobo product page.

The Kobo page displayed the book's title and cover, giving the clear impression that this was the actual book I was buying.

After purchasing and opening the ebook, I discovered something completely different: instead of the book I expected, the content was essentially a long, abstract analysis of another author's book (Tim Howard), with very few concrete figures, examples or the substantive content I expected from the advertised book.

In other words, what I believed I was purchasing and what I actually received were materially different.

I contacted Kobo regarding the purchase. Their refund/return procedure is extremely complicated and, in my experience, appears designed to make a customer spend an unreasonable amount of time trying to obtain a refund for a relatively small purchase.

For me, the issue is not simply the ₱599.

The issue is this:

If an ebook is presented with a particular title and cover, a customer should reasonably expect to receive that book — not discover after payment that they have purchased something substantially different.

This was one of my best purchases for a reader like myself. Can connect to libraries has a notebook section and is overall amazing!

I can't recommend. I have bought 2 in the past year, both have stopped working abruptly and Rakuten won't offer much support. I thought the first one was just a one off mistake but same thing happened with the second so I can't spend anymore money on a product that is unreliable.

This is my third Kobo. Love the clara size for my hand. Biggest drawback is that the cobo will not support multiple library cards without having to log in and log out each time and reload your library card. I have 3 cards I use constantly!

Recently purchased the remote control page turner. I have found it very easy to use just put my Kobo reader on a table or the arm of my chair and sit back, relax and let the remote turn the pages. I did think before I bought it was it being lazy but 'no' I now feel justified in buying it just to be able to use my Kobo without having to hold it all the time.

Great experience. Good tracking. Everything arrived on time.

Hello, I purchased a Rakuten Kobo e-gift card, but I don't think I ever received it. In any case, you can check—I certainly haven't spent it, as I was never able to locate it. If you have already sent it, could you please look into this for me?

Very easy to setup and use. Easy to read any time. Looks great. Portable. Fantastic little reader. Easy to use with my local library... Unless you have more than one library card. Apparently there used to be an option to log into your overdrive account and access all your libraries at once. Now there is only the option to log in with the specific library card itself. Which means having to log out of one library card in order to log into your other library card. When you switch over, any previously downloaded books from the first library will be reduced to previews. This is extremely frustrating. If not for this issue, the product would be receiving 5 stars.

I love Kobo!! I wanted an alternative to Amazon, and this is it. It fits in my hand better, I like the on-button better, and having a bluetooth remote to turn pages is a huge game changer. I tried to put the little clip on my Kindle, and it was miserable most of the time. It’s so much more customizable, like being able to upload my own wallpaper/screen when it’s turned off. Uploading my old books was super easy, and Kobo, unlike their competitor, tells you how to remove the DRM. Fantastic! I’m so excited to take my money elsewhere, for a better company and a better product, to boot!
