I purchased a pair of shoes online. After 6 days they had still not arrived. I emailed river island to ask when I would receive them only to be told that they had been returned to the warehouse and I would recieve a refund - no explanation why! The shoes are now sold out so I can't even reorder them! Then just to rub it in even more I received an email saying they were sorry I chose to return the item! Never had service like this from any other retailer.
I ordered some clothes late friday night 29/3 and the items arrived thursday 4/4 (I live in Denmark). There were no problems with the delivery, or with the items. The only thing I'm a bit sad about, is a jacket I had been looking at, and when I was going to order it the next day, it was sold out in my size. But overall a great site.
Terrible experience with this company. I spent over €200 with them to deliver from the UK and the package never arrived despite them saying they do deliver to a PO Box address. (We live in the campo and the postal service do not deliver to our address so like many we have a post office box in our local town to collect mail). They are taking an age to refund the money to me. We never received the package from them and their customer service facilities are abysmal, full of defensive and convoluted comments. See below: Awful experience.

Ok so I should have taken the hint when I had trouble getting my transaction to go through using PayPal. When I placed my order the heading said free shipping but when the total went through an extra $20.00 had been tacked on. I immediately emailed customer service and after three attempts I have been told that promo expired. Come on now why promote free shipping when its NOT. Now on top of that I have been notified that duty must be paid and at an inflated rate. So now we are talking about an additional $75.00 with the free shipping not being free. So my $ 235.00 + order has now become over $300. BUYER BEWARE if it happened to me it can happen to you
I bought a Christmas gift there for £30 which the recipient didn't like. I tried to return on 27th December and after a long queue got to the front to be told they weren't doing returns today! Returned today to have another go to be told that I could only have a gift card because it had gone beyond 30 days since I'd bought the item. I remarked that I was suprised they had such a short return period during the Christmas period and they said actually it had been extended to 30 days for Christmas - it is usually 14 days!
River Island I won't be coming back.
Order from their website, you may or may not receive it but if like me you don't they won't accept any responsibility for it! Do they care? No! It's a shame that one of britains leading retailers has become its own worst enemy and will probably see to its own downfall
On Thursday 20th Dec I went into a River Island store where I purchased a top and a gift card. £38 in total. The staff told me it hasn't gone through and they would enter it again, again I was charged £38. While in store I phoned my bank who confirmed I'd been charged twice. The manager advised me to leave the store without the goods and call customer services, oh and that she herself would call me back. It is now 8 days later and my account was charged and River Idldnd still owe me £76 plus compensation for phone calls, time and stress. The email system and phoning to customer services is beyond pathetic. I am still waiting but they won't do anything unless I continuously chase them. I work in accounts myself and I know that they can check if they have has the money but apparently they can't. So to sum up be very careful trusting this company. Store staff are untrained, customer service are feeble and uncaring, accounts and financial systems clearly in chaos. How long can this company last I wonder?!
If you want to shop online save yourself a hassle by doing it! This is the worst online strone I have ever shoped in. I have used my card to pay twice, the money was taken twice!! but the order was declined, the money came back to my account after 2 weeks!! Then I have used my partners card and the order was declined as well, money were taken and they never came back and now it is a month after the order. I keep writing to them and they are coming back with the stupid replay that I should explain my position with the cards....?NEVER AGAIN!!! I have ended up with no clothes and no money in my bank.
River Island offer a never-ending stream of fashionable clothes that I personally love. When I was younger River Island was my all time favourite shop because everything they sold was so cool, now, it's pretty shit. Sure there are still the odd items of clothing that I have the urge to buy, but there is just one thing that stops me. The price. I can't understand why 99% of the items being sold are so over-priced! I'm sorry to say it but I could go into shitty Primark and buy something that is pretty much the same for half the price, if not less! Sure, if I bought it in Primark I would wear it to death and it'd probably be unwearable after 2 weeks, but at least I wouldn't have a fear of ruining the item every time I went out and everytime I looked at it thought 'Ooh I better not wear that to this occassion because if it got ruined that'd be £50 down the drain'.
I understand how there is a great demand for profit in every company, but if the price keeps getting higher, the amount of loyal customers will fall.
I ordered a few bits from their website and the next day delivery didn’t get there next day, when I asked why they hadn’t got there next day they apologised (I cant remember if it was their fault or the couriers) and refunded me the postage without me having to ask. I think this is excellent customer service, I think everyone makes mistakes, its how you handle those mistakes which counts!

Since i applied for a interview on the 27th which is my mums birthday which i was ment to attend a meal at 12:45,for the bookings i had to ask my dad to cancel my place within the family meal.I find it real unprofessional that the place's have been filled without every one being interviewed that was promised an interview.Being told I could no longer have a interview for this I am not able to spend my mums birthday with her because all the the tables are now fully booked.This is all your fault due to your unprofessional HR staff.After all of this because my family means everything to me, to miss this day was very important and I now refuse to step into your store,Tell people how unprofessional you are and i will give a bad reference about this until I am satisfied that you have done something to make up for my loss.You have lost a very valuable customer since I'v bought quite a lot of your products if not all of mine.
I've bought a couple of suits here over the years and although they are never going to be "power" suits, they are perfectly serviceable and the cut is very comfortable. I tend to use them more for day to day work than if I were meeting an important client, but for what they are they are very good.
Put a gift card sale through the website. Didnt get the confirmation from River Island but I got one from Paypal. So i rang to check the order went through, I got bounced from one line to the next, called various different numbers. In the end spoke to a manager who insisted they don't accept paypal as a payment. So i asked them to go on their own site and go through the checkout process and buy a gift card as it clearly uses paypal to take payment.
In the end, i have had to send my paypal email to River Island so they can see i paid by paypal as they have no record of my order. I was told it would take 48 hours to get back to me which is fair enough. My main concern is time its taken to solve this issue. A company the size of river island should know which payment services its website is using.
River Island used to be one of my favourite companies. That was before they chose YODEL as their preferred courier.
Just check out the abysmal rating of Yodel on the Trustpilot website and you'll soon see the problem; goods delivered extremely damaged, not delivered at all, stolen by employees, 'next day' paid-for delivery taking over 7 days and much effort on the part of the recipient, lies, fraud and featuring on BBC's Watchdog and being ranked the worst courier company out of the 34 rated in the UK.
Yet despite all this and many customers asking River Island to stop using this abysmal courier, River Island continue to do so.
Until such time as River Island, Amazon and other companies stop using Yodel I will not be placing orders from them as it is evident that they don't care a hoot about customers. Life's too short.
I ordered a dress and I got it in a few days, all went well. The dress itself is amazing! Well made and of high quality. I had some problems tracking my order, but everything turned out fine so I have no complaints. Their website does need to improve a few things, but I'd definitely recommend it to a friend. Give it a try :)
This webstore is just great. I ordered a dress to come from England to Denmark, and in 2 days it was at my house. There were no harm to the package and i received a beutiful dress. Great job! I also think that it was great that i were able to follow my package, while waiting for it to arrive.
Downloaded the iPad app, easy to use, love it! Ordered 4 times, always arrived a few hours later than stated... And then once yodel sent it to the wrong depot and didn't know how to get it to the right one. The river island customer service were more than helpful and gave me a full refund. Wish I could buy from there again but Yodel are the worst delivery service around!
Ordered a dress online. It was delivered late first of all and once opened It look nothing like it did online.
I ordered a it a size larger and it was still hard to get on and off and was very short. Size's are not very accurate at all. Colours and design allways look different. Not very good quality for the price.
I am so frustrated with River Island. I have never experience such a bad customer service in my life. I don't mean the staff, I am talking about their online store. I have read reviews that their online shopping experience is bad as the clothes don't fit the description or the delivery is slow. However, I was out of the country and I was in a need to buy a coat as a Christmas gift. I ordered everything and prepared it is going to be late (slow delivery). However, after two weeks I have received an e-mail saying that a PART of my order is delivered. Apparently, they charged me a £4 delivery fee to send me shoes that I wouldn't have bought otherwise and couldn't send me a coat because they don't have it. TWO WEEKS to let me know! Now it's after New Years and I still don't have a gift for my boyfriend. I wish I could sue them or they'd go bankrupt, they deserve it for they are officially the worst retailer in the world.
I used to buy from River Island a lot. Now though, I find that a lot of their cloths look tacky and are not made as well as they used to be. I hardly ever buy from there now, I always pop in for a browse but seem to come out empty handed and disappointed.
I used to shop at River Island quite often however started to notice that the clothes I bought from there (in particular the tshirts) got holes in them. I wouldnt mind so much if the prices were cheap but when you have other shops that are cheaper selling the same sort of thing its quite annoying! I must admit that I love River Island handbags and they do tend to last. I find some of the clothes a little chavvy at times and a bit dated. The mens clothes seem to be more fashionable than the womens.
I have ordered a number of times online and have found the service fantastic. Your order is delivered within 48 hours normally and the garments are all on hangers.
I feel that i payed alot of money for not very good quality clothing. The jeans i buy from here, stretch. Also, i bought a grey top with sequins, and they kept falling off after a day. I bought a cardigansize 12 and after a few days it looked like size 16!!
Some of the clothing is good quality, like the t-shirts.
But to be honest, i have stopped buying from here as its a rip off.
But it used to be my Fav shop!
