I was so happy once I had successfully purchased a weekend break in Cornwall. I had been longing to go there for years, and was so chuffed it had been booked. Secret Escapes deducted the money immediately from my account, so as far as I was concerned, all was in order. The following evening I received a call to say that there had been an error and they had over booked the hotel and therefore my booking wasn't confirmed. They said they could look at other dates for me. I said I would be happy to travel any weekend thereafter for the next three months. Hours later they managed to agree another weekend date with me, which I accepted. I got sent an email confirmation that it had all been booked for that later done. I thought, well not too much harm done, at least I am still going. I later received a call to say that the new dates are more expensive and I would now have to pay more money. I said that this is unacceptable is it was their fault that they over booked in the first place, the least they could do is pay the difference in cost as a gesture of goodwill. The stuck to their guns and said if I don't pay more money they would cancel the booking. I said I don't want the booking cancelled, but I feel they should not make me pay any more as it was their mistake. They tried to pass the blame on to the hotel. They said they would investigate and get back to me about why this happened. They cancelled my booking and it took several days for me to receive my money back. I emailed a complaint. A week later I had not received a response. I called to ensure my email was safely received and they confirmed it was and they would get back to me by the end of that week. No reply. I emailed again and my email was yet again ignored. I would not recommend Secret Escapes to anyone now. This whole situation has cause me a lot of distress. Their customer service is truly shocking and I am very disappointed about the whole thing. To make matters worse another agent was offering the same deal for less money, but as I was messed around for so long, I wasn't able to take up their offer in time, if I had been told sooner that they had overbooked, I would have been able to make alternative arrangements with a more trusted agent which I have used several times without any problems.
I have booked several times with Secret Escapes and I still think this is one of the best sides on the web. Service is second to none if you have a problem. The team is very friendly and helpful, the deals are really good and you will find your own gem. Thank you Secret Escapes.
We were greeted by very friendly staff at Reception. As the jug of welcome drink had beeb used up by the four guests checking in ahead of us the receptionist said she would have two glasses sent to our room. A few minutes after arriving in our room the same receptionist arrived with the two glasses of cocktail and then offered us complimentary tea or coffee which was delivered a short time afterwards. Our room was quite the nicest room we have had on a weekend away. It was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and a couple of steps down we had a separate lounge area with two very comfortable armchairs and a two seater settee, desk with tea/coffee making facitities and a tv with mini bar below.
The hotel is located in acres of beautiful grounds that are very well kept.
The Spa was excellent although we did not have any treatments we enjoyed a swim in the pool, use of the jacuzzi and steam room.
The food was excellent, both at dinner and breakfast. The staff were very obliging and served with a smile. My husband is a coeliac so we were pleased that gluten free bread was available and that anything on the menu could be adapted.
Altogether, it was an excellent overnight stay and would recommend this hotel to all friends and family.
Twice now I have found better deals than secret escapes by booking directly with hotels. Last time SE was claiming a 76% discount for a hotel I was interested in, but it was much cheaper for the same dates on the hotel site. When I informed SE of this they responded that I was wrong. I then sent them copies of the quotes from the hotel, i received no apology, no explanation. I used to use them a lot but not any more.
We booked a weekend in London via Secret Escapes and stayed in the most wonderful hotel. The hotel was contempary and quirky at the same time. The breakfast was also very good. We would definitely book with Secret Escapes again. Thank you.
Seemed a very friendly place to stay, unfortunately they had a power cut so we were unable to find out more. Good thing is they have said we can go back with the offer we had taken just to call and quote. So when the weather is less snowy that's what we shall do
Lately we were attractive to Secret Escapes Ad and spotted a hotel in Barcelona , we x-checked with other active websites and discovered almost same price and finally we booked directly with hotel because it was cheaper with same extra, despite what Secret Escapes claimed the "extra" only available from them !!!!
The room provided through Secret Escapes was first class. The breakfast as part of the deal was also fantastic. We had not realised that the Leasure facilities were also included, so remember your swimming costume and gym equipment.
The golf course is available at a small fee for twilight hours, post 3.0pm during the week.
We srongly recommend this Hotel - despite the long drive and having to park 150 meters away.
The Lakeside hotel at Wooton Bridge, Isle of wight was fabulouis. It is a hotel I had wanted to stay at for ages when I visit IOW but the price was very expensive. But when i saw it on secret Escapes i couldnt believe it. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The room was great and the deal we got was fabulous. When we broke the whole weekend down it was amazing value. We spoke to the manager of the hotel and he said the Secret Escape deals were very good for the customer and gave the hotel added trade for which they were grateful. I cant rate the hotel and secret escape deals highly enough. It was our first break we booked with them and I am looking forward to another break when a suitable hotel comes up. Thank You Secret Escapes you did what you say on the box ... and more.
Had a wonderful few days away at a really good price, check out Secret Escapes website for some great deals.
I booked my first ever Secret Escape to a Cotswolds country house hotel as a treat for my husband's birthday. It exceeded our expectations. We had a fantastic time and the hotel was really luxurious, the service was amazing and we were thoroughly spoilt. I totally forgot we were on a bargain break, but had a nice reminder when the bill at check-out was just for the bar. I'll definitely be using Secret Escapes again.

Fantastic overall package !!!
Regards and all that stuff
I used Secret Escapes for the first time in October 2012 to book a holiday for February 2013. I was a bit apprehensive, as I know you shouldn't believe all the advertising. But I was delighted to find that they are there ready to answer any queries (no matter how daft the questions sound). I like the i's dotted and the t's crossed and Secret Escapes certainly did that for me. Reassurance all the way. Very fast and efficient service. The travel company they use (Fleetway Travel) was equally efficient. Everything went without a hitch. Thank you Secret Escapes... I will return (as soon as I can save up enough for Sri Lanka!)
Booked a week at Bay retreat villas in February. it was as described, modern, clean, warm, good shop and chippy on site both with friendly staff. good location not far from rick steins new pub in st merryn, recommended for a visit, great food at reasonable prices. Booking was easy, good value half term break in Cornwall and the sun shone and the sky was blue. Great family break.
Just returned fro m second hotel break with secret escapes. I do not know how they do it - each time I have been allocated a fabulous room with best view available for discount price. First was to Canal Court hotel Dublin, second to Fitzpatricks castle hotel Killiney. Both were delightful. I only wish I had more time to try out more deals. Looking forward to enjoying more breaks with secret escapes.
Just returned from visiting Cuba with Journeys of Distinction where we found the visits very interesting (Havana, Viñales, Cienfuegos and Trinidad.) Enjoyed what we saw very much and had great weather. Group size just right (20) to give variety of contacts and conversations.
Local guide knowledgeable and pleasant.
However, two days before we left we were notified of two hotel changes - the email said that we would not be disappointed since the changes would "even enhance our experience" Rubbish! Instead of arriving for 3 nights at probably the best hotel in Havana (Hotel Parque Central - we looked at web reviews before we went and were suitably encouraged) we were instead booked into the Hotel Habana Libre, a much poorer, tired old hotel further out from the centre. The rooms were in need of an update, especially the bathrooms. At least three of the six lifts never worked. When we had our final night of the tour at the Hotel Parque Central we were only then able to appreciate just how badly we had been served at the much inferior hotel for the first three nights! Further, our hotel at Viñales was replaced by some chalet type accommodation at Soroa (a trip of about 90km each way which took valuable time out of the holiday) where three of our party didn't even have running water upon arrival. A pleasant forested location but isolated and basic. The restaurant was poor and limited, and several of the party had stomach problems for a few days afterwards. This was supposed to be a good substitution for the beautifully located hotel Los Jazmines at Viñales itself.
We felt we had been short-changed with both of these last-minute substitutions - especially on missing out three nights at the Parque Central. Although they claim their hands were tied by government controls in Cuba, one has to ask, “Were such controls imposed just before we arrived?“ If so it is hard to believe. We feel we might hesitate in future to trust Journeys of Distinction to provide the up-market hotel quality their name implies.
Secret Escapes seeks to offer high quality hotels and holidays at good, discounted prices. We feel that in this instance the quality of accommodation suggested that some cost-cutting had taken place, thereby reducing the effect of any savings you had tried to make for us. We know that many others in the group, presumable only some of which had booked through Secret Escapes, held the same opinion about the moderate quality of the hotels.
We are, of course, writing to Journeys of Distinction to make these points clear to them also.
We had a lovely all inclusive skiing holiday in Arinsal staying at the Princes Diana Park Hotel. The weather was perfect - too much snow if anything. Hotel was excellent, marvelous service and food with extremely helpful staff. I would recommend this holiday to anyone, but the opportunity came to light via Secret Escapes, thanks go to Secret Escapes.
The hotel was set in its own grounds and the conservatory bar overlooked the golf course. The staff were all very nice to deal with and the rooms were lovely and kept very clean. We ate at the Kepeper Lodge and the food was very good with very reasonable proces. Wouid go again at this price.
the promise was not realised. Poor quality Hotels, last minute changes then to top it all the last night stayed where we suppose to stay at the start and that was 5 star!!!!
Whole group will be complaining
The Holiday was all that you said it would be. The Hotel was great, the whole week was but the other agencies who deal with trips were not. When I booked a trip to Cairo before we left they said it was okay with all the problems out there. I was assured that if I cancelled it I would get a full refund. When we got to Egypt we were told under no circumstances should we go near Cairo so I cancelled it. I was then told I had lost all my money. I am now in dispute with Inspired and Broadway travel and I have sent them the Foreign Office recommendations which I should have been informed about at the time so I could make a better judgement on the trip. I am most dissappointed that the other people involved in our holiday were just out to make money. Sorry but I cannot recommend the booking agencies to my friends. Secret Escapes should check all their agencies before just handing us over to them.
we booked this deal for a golden wedding anniversary, this hotel, and all staff were absolutely 1st class nothing was too much trouble, all e-mails were answered very quickly i just wish as a family we could all have stayed there, in fact my wife is 50 very soon and hopefully i can book all my family in
It all went like clockwork! The taxi arrived on time and dropped us at the departures hall of Bristol airport. Had we got the right day, the right time? There was no one at the check in desk. Wow, we just sailed through. A full flight left on time and arrived in Funchal on time. A taxi was waiting for us and we were whisked away through the suburbs of the tropical paradise to our 5 star Pestana Carlton hotel. A warm greeting by the concierge started a relaxed break, which we could not fault. Excellent rooms, with ocean views made it a paradise of our own. Would we go back, - you bet!
We had a truly fantastic break at the Athenaeum Hotel in London. We had not heard of it before seeing its listing but it truly delivered style, service and location so that our stay was truly special. The Secret Escapes offer gives more than just a great room - we took up the breakfast option which was an absolute treat. Afternoon tea was the best we have ever had - and we have tried plenty. If we hadn't already booked a show to see, we would have enjoyed the stunning trolley items for even longer than we did. Probably just as well....
The only problem is staying anywhere else after this...... We will definitely use Secret Escapes again.
Easy on-line booking following clearly described venue and facilities. Useful inclusion of photographs to help decision-making
On arrival at the Spa hotel, everything at check-in went very smoothly and met expectations.
Really nice hotel in Malton, North Yorks which actively welcommed our dog too! friendly and knowledgeable staff. definitely going back!
Such an easy way to book. Clear and correct description of offer.Kings Hotel Chipping Camden lived up to all expectations. Good accomodation, fantastic food and really friendly staff. A real find. Lovely situation in the Cotswolds.
We took advantage of the special Secret Escapes Dinner, Bed & Breakfast deal at Doxford Hotel and Spa because it offered really good value. The hotel is delightful - everything has the feel of being carefully chosen which lets you know you aren't staying in a hotel belonging to a large chain. The spa & pool area is well equipped and we enjoyed a couples back massage which was very nicely done. The hotel has recently been awarded another AA rosette for the restaurant and the dinner was excellent with lots of local produce featured on the menu. All in all a delightful stay and it would be lovely to return at some point - maybe for two nights next time!
We had booked a 2 night stay through Secret Escapes, then a couple of days before travelling was taken ill.
Contacted Secret Escapes to explain and they could not do enough to help. ie contacting the Hotel that was booking, phonong me back with update & helped get a refund.
Absolutly Brilliant service.
From the flight there to arriving back in Gatwick everything was spot on.
The hotel fulfilled our expectations......so did the weather.....January! Warm n Wet.
Hotel was in a good location for visiting the sights and getting to local restaurants, the ONLY downside was the very busy dual carriageway outside the bedroom window. This stopped us from having the window open day or night. The breakfast was superb and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Go up to the restaurant at the top of the hotel at night for a fab view of the acropolis.
Loved it... thats another experience crossed off the bucket list!!!!!!!!
The hotel was 5 star and just as described by Secret Escapes, Lovely room
with sea views and balcony.
Breakfast was good with plenty to choose from, outside the hotel was lots of
good restaurants .
The only problem we had is that we went out with EasyJet came back with Monarch but was unaware they use different terminals . Maybe that could be
made clear to avoid any confusion.
