A three month old Toshiba Laptop developed a line down one side of the screen. The line turned into a bar that continued to grow, getting wider each time it was booted up. Called Toshiba, and got an RMA number along with directions to ship it back. I even had to pay for the shipping. When they received it, their reply was "physical damage - not covered".
They offered to fix it for $350.00. I elected to have to returned to me. Now that they had refused to repair it, I took the screen out, where it was clear that they had not bothered to remove it. My guess is all they did was power it up and see that the screen was bad and claim physical damage. There was NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE, no crack, no mark, no nothing on the screen, plus the changing size and type of the bar on the screen is symptomatic of electronic failure (this is an LED screen), not physical damage. But that didn't matter to Toshiba. I followed all this up with one of their "Case Managers", who made it clear that they had an excuse not to meet their obligation under the warranty.
Luckily, I found a replacement screen at ScreenCountry.com for $67.00. Replaced it while sitting in my Lazy-boy, drinking a cold one, and watching TV. Laptop works great now, I just hope nothing else goes wrong because it is clear to me that the warranty is worthless! I was told that Toshiba Customer Support was terrible before I purchase this laptop, I should have listened.
My computer started to rumble during the guaranteeperiod. I brought it back to its reseller Computerland. 4 times they tried to fix it and blackmailed me into payment of € 81 otherwise I couldn't get my computer back. I approached the Dutch Consumers Organisation and my complaints were found to be true,m admitted by both Computerland and Toshiba. They would give it another try to repair it or I would get a new computer. I am still waiting for my computer. It's been away now for half a year, except for a few days around Christmas. Both companies lie to the Dutch Consumers organisation. They promise but don't deliver at all.
So my advice to all of you : Don'T BUY A TOSHIBA product. Their service SUCKS
I ordered a recovery disk for my laptop and it was shipped out from Germany. The disk didn't work so I contacted customer support in the UK and they told me that I had to write and send the disk back to the address in Germany. There was not direct contact number for them. The cost of sending it back would have been more than they paid to send me the disk. Left me out of pocket. Don't bother with them.
