Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 43 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers experienced severe shipping delays, leaving many people waiting months for backordered items like textbooks and curricula. People also reported extremely long hold times, unhelpful staff, and a complete lack of response from customer support when trying to resolve issues. However, some customers also noted that prices remain competitive, and certain representatives can be extremely helpful when reached. A few loyal reviewers have bought items successfully for years without ever facing any major delivery problems or return complications. Additionally, some buyers mentioned receiving free shipping or quick assistance during phone calls.

I'll never use this website again

I'll never use this website again! I ordered some curriculum for homeschooling 2 months ago and it still has not arrived!! We are a month into school! They said it was backordered and would be delivered by a certain date, but that date was a month ago and it still hasn't arrived. I have called countless times and can't get ahold of anyone. What a NIGHTMARE!! Spend the couple extra bucks to buy it off Amazon and save your sanity.

BEWARE don't purchase from this website

If I could give zero stars I would.I am incredibly frustrated with my recent experience. I ordered school books expecting a reasonable delivery time, but my items have now been stuck at a transit facility for over 8 days with absolutely no movement. Worse yet, their customer service is entirely non-existent. I have called 3 separate times and sent emails trying to get an update or a resolution, but I have received zero responses. The email responses have been they can't respond. School has started, and my student is left without their required books because this company refuses to communicate or help track down the shipment. Avoid buying items from here.

No Customer Service

Over the years, I have purchased ebooks from Christianbook.com with no problems until they changed their app. My library disappeared from my account! It has been impossible to talk to a human being and AI is completely useless making suggestions I already said I had tried and then suggest I contact customer service which I would if I could actually make contact with someone!

Horrible customer service

I ordered a homeschool curriculum and it was backordered for over a month. I called and canceled the remaining parts of my order. I was told it was canceled. They lied and still charged me and won't cancel the order. The customer service is horrible. You can't reach anyone for over 30 minutes. When you finally get someone to call back they are very rude. I an contacting the bbb and opening a fraud dispute on my credit card.

The worst customer service and online retailer I have had since the internet was invented

This is the second time I've attempted to do business with Christianbook.com. They have failed both times to fulfill very expensive textbook orders for our homeschool needs. I have attempted to email them and call them with zero response. I attempted to call them, but there was a 48-minute wait on hold, which is a further disrespect not only to my money, but to my time.

My over-$200 worth of textbooks are still out there, undelivered, and my daughter started her class without them. I have happily disputed the charge with Amex and am on a mission to ensure that other homeschooling families will Avoid shopping with them when there are other, more trustworthy options available. As a Christian business, they should be the best in class, but sadly, they are the worst.

I really hate to do this

I really hate to do this, but it's the only way I can fight back against a company who seems apathetic and untrustworthy. I had 2 items that were backordered with an estimated date of shipment 2 weeks out. I was willing to wait that time, however, it has now been one month. I chatted with the AI bot and asked it to pass along feedback that I was sorely disappointed that, in all that time, I had zero communication from the company about the status of my order. As a result of my chat with the AI bot, I got a templated letter from one higher up explaining that they were working as hard as possible to get things resolved due to an operations and technology move from Mass to Tenn. Sounds like bad planning. I contacted the AI bot again and now my order will be delayed until early October. This is completely unacceptable. This gift was for a baptism for one of my church friends. Besides the late late order, the communication is awful. I've called 2x with the first wait time at 40 minutes and just now at 1 hour and 15 minutes. I sent them a request to cancel my order but not sure anyone will be reviewing it. I'm not sure what else I can do except this.

Shorted me a book in my order

Shorted me a book in my order after taking a month to ship and it's impossible to get a hold of anyone. They don't respond to email and it's an hour wait for customer service. Definitely sticking with rainbow resource.

My honest experience

First book ordered August 11th was received a couple days later. Took maybe 5 days. Second book showed it was fully in stock… but it didn’t arrive with the first book which I found super odd. I wrote CS to ask about it and I ended up receiving the book about 2 weeks after ordering. I got a response from CS about the book 14 days after my inquiry. It says 48-72 hour “or sooner” response time. I let the person know I received my order already but told her I was concerned with ordering again and if this is a common occurrence. She let me know they switched warehouses and apologized for the delay. I also read on google, which idk if it’s true or not that there were 150 or more layoffs. I would assume that attributed to the delay. Overall I mean I received my books one just a week after I needed it for co-op homeschool so we had to make due. The books were perfectly packaged but the issues lays with customer support and no answers, which is why I had to remove 1 star. I didn’t give only a 1 star rating even with these issues because I have previously ordered from them last year. None of this was not an issue at all so I didn’t want to bash them for something out of the employees control as they are not the ones making big decisions (layoffs, warehouse move) but I still wanted to leave my honest review so others ordering know they could have the same issue this year. Again last year I didn’t have this issue. That’s why I am writing in on this platform so others ordering can see what they may face! I did ask the CSR if I have to order again if there is a good chance this issue will happen again as far as delayed response/delivery and Amanda S. who replied said she apologized for the delays and they are very behind but slowly chipping away at returning of emails and getting shipments out. It’s also worth noting I sent her emails that she replied to within 2-4 minutes of me emailing. She was extremely on top of it and it’s also a Sunday morning, which tells me they truly have been extremely behind but are working to make everything right. She said this shouldn’t be an issue moving forward and they’re working hard to correct everything.
I see everyone else’s reviews and they’re all bad because it shows they all clearly had the issues I had. But I chose to give them grace because of previous ordering experience and the representative who took time with me this morning. I wouldn’t let it cause you to never order from them again I would just be weary during this time. I am sure once everything is settled they’ll be back to normal. I won’t let this ruin my experience with them. I urge people ordering to consider all of this before purchasing and making sure you’ll receive your order promptly until they get things all adjusted and in order.

Large order bungled costing me lots of time and money

$4000 curriculum order was placed on 8/19 with a backorder ship date of 8/25. On 8/26, the backorder ship date changed on what I could see in their system to 9/28. I called on 8/27 to see if they may ship sooner and was told they are backordered until 9/28 - they simply read the same thing I could see. They apparently have no way to check beyond what is shown on-line on the order. I stated that I wouldn't be able to wait that long, but I didn't understand why it would be another whole month beyond the original back order date. I stated that I would have to cancel the order as I couldn't wait that long. I never intended for them to cancel my order as I was going to cancel it only after I found another vendor though I understand that I should have made that more clear. It takes more than an hour to get through to them so no chance of calling them back to clarify. (55 minute wait time when I originally called and 70 minute wait time after I talked to them.) After I hung up, I noticed that two of the items that had said backordered until 9/25, now said, "In Process" - so I decided just to wait and see if the rest of it ended up being processed. I suspect all of it would have been processed from inventory delivered on or around the original back order date. But within a few minutes, everything that was backordered showed as Cancelled. Now they have cancelled everything in the order that doesn't say "In Process" which was half of the order. I am part of their rewards program so I have been paying all year knowing this order would pay for the program and now it won't because they have cancelled it. I'm done with Christian Book Distributors. Their system is really, really bad.

Save yourself a headache! Don't order from this company.

I have been through far too much with Christianbook.com, and after this experience, I will not be ordering from them again.

I placed my homeschool curriculum order on July 7, 2026. First, there was a payment issue where my credit card was charged more than the amount I was supposed to be charged. Then the money was also taken through PayPal, leaving me out of a significant amount of money. When I called about the overcharge and payment issue, Christianbook also created a completely new order number dated August 5.

That is extremely concerning and confusing because my original order was placed on July 7, not August 5. Once they changed the order number, it made my order history appear as though the order was newer than it actually was. The customer knows when the order was originally placed, so changing the order number does not change the fact that I have been waiting since July 7.

It also took approximately a week or two to get my money back after the payment issue was addressed.

Then came the homeschool curriculum delays. Today is August 26, and I am still waiting for a substantial portion of my July 7 order. Items have been shipped here and there, but the backorder dates keep changing. Now I am being told that some of my items will not be available until September 23.

I ordered nearly two months ago. How does an order continue to get pushed further and further out after the customer has already been waiting this long?

The explanation I keep hearing is that Christianbook is moving, transitioning, or making changes within the company that are causing these delays. I understand that businesses go through transitions, but if a company knows it cannot properly fulfill orders during a transition, it should not continue accepting orders and giving customers availability dates that repeatedly change.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I contacted ACE directly, and ACE confirmed that the curriculum I need is in stock. So this is not simply a situation where the publisher doesn't have the books. Christianbook is the one that cannot fulfill my order.

And after all of this, the solution offered was essentially a $10 coupon toward my next order. Why would I want to place another order after this experience? Instead of offering a meaningful discount or some other way to compensate customers who have been waiting for weeks, I was offered $10 to come back and spend more money.

At this point, I am canceling everything from my July 7 order that has not already shipped and will be ordering directly from ACE from now on.

For a company that calls itself a Christian bookstore, this entire experience has been extremely disappointing. Customer service, accurate inventory information, timely fulfillment, and making things right when there is a problem should matter.

I would strongly recommend that homeschool families think twice before placing a large curriculum order with Christianbook right now. I certainly will never order from them again.

no product and unable to cancel the order

I ordered homeschool curriculum and paid extra to have it arrive by the following week. All items were shown to be in stock. The day they were guaranteed to arrive I received an email that most of my order was in backstock and would arrive a month later. I have tried to call customer service for several days and always receive a message that they are not accepting calls. I tried emailing on the website, but it would not send. I am not able to cancel all of the order, and I have no curriculum to start school. I will not be ordering from this website again.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. I ordered school books 8 days ago and my account still says in process. I called and waited 40 minutes. I finally got someone on the phone and she said they moved warehouses and it put shipping behind and she can't give me an ETA of when it will ship. I asked if I can cancel my order and she said with it in process she can't cancel it. She offered to email her lead and ask what items are available to cancel. I asked her to please request which items can be canceled and then she abruptly cut me off and said the warehouse is trying to access my order and she has to close it out. She ended the call immediately telling me she's sorry.

I waited 40 minutes for her to end my call like that? I got zero answers other than your order is in process, we don't know when it will ship, and you can't cancel it. I will never order from this company again.

DO NOT ENGAGE IN BUSINESS WITH THIS…

DO NOT ENGAGE IN BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! They do process or fulfill orders. There customer service doesn't exist. They will not answer or return calls or emails. If you call into their Customer Service number it goes no where. Literally hangs up on you saying they are too busy to accept calls. They don't even give the option for a return call. The chat bot is useless too, says you need a live agent but can't get one. They have not returned a single outreach, nor have they cancelled my order as requested (since it never came) or refunded my money. I have had to report them to the BBB! Avoid at all cost.

I have ordered Christian Books on a Strong's Concordance.

I have ordered Christian Books on a number of occasions; however; Lately it has become a nightmare. I understand that they are moving locations (it has been going on since June 2026), but that is no excuse for their lack of customer service. I ordered a Strong's Concordance (which did not show as out of stock) on July 27, 2026 for my wife's birthday in Mid August 2026, I received a notice saying it was out of stock and would be in stock on August 3, 2026. It showed in stock on the 3rd; however was not shipped. I have contacted their customer service to include supervisors, who advised me that they have contracted through another warehouse, that I can not cancel the order and that I have to wait for it to be delivered before I can cancel the order, and then, I can send it back and get refunded for the concordance, less shipping fees. As of August 3, 2026, the status shows that they are processing my order, but it has not shipped. As of today, August 19, 2026, the tracking still shows processing but not shipped (17 days in the same status). The quality and customer service of this organization has plummeted. Their excuse is still that they are in transit to their new warehouse. This is not adequate.

Avoid this website

I ordered some Bibles for my sons for Christmas and believed I was making a one-time purchase. Somewhere during the checkout process, I was apparently enrolled in a rewards program. I may have been in a hurry and missed something, but I certainly don’t remember intentionally signing up for a recurring paid membership.

Eight months later, while reviewing our credit card statements, we discovered that we had been getting charged for this program the entire time.

I understand that ultimately I need to pay closer attention during checkout and do a better job regularly reviewing our credit card statements. That’s on me. However, I also believe businesses should make recurring paid memberships very clear during the purchasing process rather than allowing customers to unknowingly enroll.

It’s especially disappointing when you’re purchasing Bibles from a company presenting itself as Christian. Apparently I’m learning two lessons from this experience: review my credit cards more often, and don’t assume a Christian website won’t use the same questionable subscription tactics as everyone else.

I would encourage anyone ordering from this company to carefully review every box and option during checkout and then watch your credit card statements afterward.

Christian in name not in service. False advertisement.

I ordered a bible with my full name to be printed on it. Waited 3 weeks and finally called. They said imprinting is no longer available and i wont be charged for it. I explained to the gentlemen, if i wanted a regular bible i wiuld have gone to barnes and noble instead of waiting 3 weeks and still didnt get it. I asked to cancel the order and he was unable to cancel it and refund me. Instead he had to send a shipping label which will come with the bible yet the bible will still take another 2 weeks. I also asked why they provided the service of name imprinting if it's not truly available?? He said their warehouse is moving and it was 2 weeks prior they found out but im confused because i ordered 3 weeks ago therefore i should still have been able to get my order in. I would have been treated better by unbelievers than this. Not sure why they have a company just to defile the name of God and all of christianity with this type of service. Really sad. Then they don't even attempt to make amends with their clients for this terrible service and all the wasted time and frustration.
