Most users are eventually pleased with the resulting file size vs quality after having played with the settings under the "Images" tab, but if you find other software tools that provide better scaling of JPEG images, you can use those and feed jAlbum the resulting images. Now set jAlbum to use those images directly instead of scaling them by setting "Image linking" to "Link to originals" under the "Pages" settings tab.
