They are really a thief

They are really a thief.

Yes, they provide all the legit services until something wrong happens.

They blocked my account because they needed a verification on the 10th Oct. Fair. I sent them documents and all, they still haven't got back until 30th Oct. Then, they charged my card $1,200 because some services are still running between 10th 30th Oct.

I've contacted customer service last 2 weeks, they keep saying "don't keep opening new chat, we are reviewing, program team will look into this etc". In the end, they are not solving this problem because another team has to look, and they only respond via email. Don't use them.

I opened an account on the free tier…

I opened an account on the free tier just to learn about the AWS platform and see how it can help me host my clients' websites. I made 3 ec2 instances as an example and never used them again, now few months later I have a total charge close to $150 dollars, and for what? no idea. Very disappointed, very difficult to understand and follow the alien documentation.

used these guys for minor domain…

used these guys for minor domain services and they are useless. The interface is so complex it's hard to follow. Then the inevitable happened. I decided to cancel the AWS service but it was impossible. I logged out and then when i attempted to login later it refused to authenticate my root level credentials and has been that way ever since. Support said they cannot help unless I login to discuss. They are disinterested in assisting further. I have now been forced to deauthorize their charges at the bank. Poor.

Disappointed they are removing Parler…

Disappointed they are removing Parler and denying a key platform for free speech. Yet another example of a big tech company bullying and telling us what is good for us or not. AWS may temporarily disrupt their service but they will be back in just a few days. While parent company Amazon will lose millions.

Billing billing billing

Numerous times I have been billed for services I did not want or use. The system is super opaque and I've contacted support on many occasions to help stop whatever they're charging me for.

Their billing dashboard goes beyond just being a dark pattern and is borderline criminal.

If only I had known one year ago that there are much better (and cheaper) PaaS providers out there ...

Moved from hostgator to aws thinking it…

Moved one website from hostgator to aws thinking it was going to be an easy switch. Website was down for 8 days, business was at a stand still. Did not know that amazon offers very limited support for website support/ wordpress. Ended up switching back to hostgator because nothing was working correctly (no email, website down). Amazon might be good for certain companies but not my small business.

Think carefully about partnering with AWS

AWS has lost full control of its own company. For one of our projects we need a P3.2 instances server. We set this up together with our solution architect. We have explicitly indicated to him 5x whether the costs are based on ''computing'' time. He confirmed this and after a month we got a bill for 3000 dollars, without any usage. This is of course no way of working. You cannot rely on the knowledge of their employees. Please watch out for this. They will not compromise.

Go with another service provider if possible.

Scalability is a huge problem. You'll eventually be subject to their usage limit approvals which is a complete crapshoot. If you try to contact them for more information, you'll be sent automated replies. Certain departments have shady practices, where they have people who aggressively deletes anything questions or complaints that have cast a negatively light or show their inefficacies, so even through online forums you can't get help.

We're currently migrating as much as we can away from AWS.

These are scammers and they will steal your website!

After paying $2610 for a website a year ago, they have sent me a $2500 plus tax upcharge for a ADA and DMCA certification, and won't release my website until it's paid.. In the meantime, they have blocked my site. Since they refused to give me the credentials to my website, they have taken my business from me. I have filed a complaint with the FBI Cybercrimes division, ICANN and WHOIS abuse. I may never get my domain back or my money, but I have learned a valuable lesson. No matter how many T's you cross or I's you dot, there will always be some dishonest people waiting to take advantage of your good nature.

Amazon's US-East data center crash also…

Amazon's US-East data center crash also caused our application to crash due to a corrupted data base. As a result of the data center going up and down our fielded devices reported data loss and recovery multiple times.
As a result the application sent out about 10X the normal number of SMS. That caused us to exceed our spend limit. The net effect is we were cut off from any more SMS and AWS is slow/ unwilling to restore it for us. I understand they are offering some compensation probably to larger customers. This is the worst customer service I seen from then since we joined several years ago.

Performance is good

Performance is good. Network downtime is very low. So much more professional than cheap VPS cloud providers like DO, Vultr, Upcloud etc. (all a load of rubbish). Our AWS Lightsail server is up for over 2 years with no issues.

Amazon hero’s in my book

Feel I really need to say thank you to Amazon UK . We moved house just before lockdown and don’t know how we would have managed without them , new house , shielding , difficult postcode , on building site , it didn’t stop them Their delivery people just excellent and other that one coming from China no problems at all and that was not down to amazon . You really do deserve 5 stars in my book. Thank you

Okay service but too much vendor lock…

Okay service but too much vendor lock ins camouflaged as "easy to use" features, also watch out for high bandwidth fees. Particularly S3 glacier which seems like a reasonably priced backup solution, but once you need you files the cost to restore is ridiculous.

you need to be a cloud enginner to do simple stuff

can't get my ssl to be assigned to my domain, very hard and complex stuff for no reason, I used google cloud instead and I was able to get my stuff done quickly and they even gave me a $400 bonus credit right. never coming back to AWS ever again.

Good

Good, but bit expensive.

I found this as good for professionals and enterprises, but I have moved with DigitalOcean which is cheaper.

Anyone looking for an unlimited space under AWS for hosting can go with jachoos.net, they are providing good service. I tried before.

They are not cheaper (no matter what…

They are not cheaper (no matter what some "experts" says), you won't save money with them.
It's practically impossible to determine the end costs.
The services (most) are heavily convoluted to configure and they are hard to configure (btw, I am certification and I still have troubles with the console and shell, with the old and the new interface).

But I think part of the problem was that AWS is not aimed at small companies but big multinationals.

Beware getting locked in

The technology is fabulous of course, only a few steps short of magical, but it's really difficult to know how much you'll end up spending, and the further you go into the world of AWS, the harder it is to get out again. The learning curve is steep, but the instructions are very good, and it's a big community, so plenty of people to ask.

AWS support is a catastrophe

AWS support is a catastrophe. If you have an issue with their verification team, consider your content on their server like "dead"... One issue with a credit card that I resolved the same day, and the account stands blocked after 3 days, while they just have to confirm the payment or debit.
The regular support/hotline is only trained to send copy/paste emails and they don't have any direct contact with the verification team neither the customer.
So they kidnap your content on the server, you can't work and never know if once they will release the access.

AWS has extremely talented support and…

AWS has extremely talented support and the products are great. No, it's not the easiest to figure out what is best for your needs and stuff like that, but creating a ticket will help you with that. I've always experienced great support with clear answers and further explanations if asked for. After my free tier EC2 instance expired, with the help of the well written articles I was able to downgrade my instance without any issues.

5/5 from me!
