Celebrating Fifty Years as a Family Owned and Operated Local Business Charley’s Appliance was founded by Charlie Young in 1968 under the name “Young’s Appliance”. It was located at 118 W. Pine El Dorado Kansas. In 1984 Charlie’s son Dennis bought the business, renamed it Young’s Appliance Plus and moved it to 323 N. Main. After 31 years of successful business, Dennis sold his company to Charley Green and Samuel and Stephen McVay. Charley was a local appliance service legend, and the McVay brothers were up and coming entrepreneurs who already owned two other companies. They took Young’s Appliance Plus and Charley’s Appliance Service and renamed it Charley’s Appliance. Shortly after they moved from a 2,500 sq.ft. store to the 12,000 sq.ft. store at 130 N. Main, the name was modified to “Charley’s Appliance and Mattress Gallery” to accommodate the addition of a large selection of mattresses. Charley’s has recently added a good stock of Traeger and Smokin Brothers pellet grills, as well as a live kitchen for cooking shows. Charley’s has grown from 3 to 7 employees, and is a thriving business in downtown El Dorado.
