Particularly beneficial for developers

One of the most attractive features of DigitalOcean is its simplicity. The platform is designed to be user-friendly, with a clean and intuitive interface that makes it easy to manage infrastructure. This is particularly beneficial for developers who may not have extensive experience with cloud technologies. Another key advantage of DigitalOcean is its affordability and tech support.

I did not expect to get a response to…

I did not expect to get a response to my support request before CoB because I'm not a big corporate customer. Not only was response fast but I even had a resolution before CoB.

I know that's kind of a low bar, but that kind of service happens so rarely anymore I find it very surprising and worthy of a bit of celebration.

DO team helped to solve a singular problem with a K8S upgrade affecting a specific service/deployment in only one cluster

DO team helped me to understand where my problem could be, despite they couldn't replicate the error on their side. They gave alternative solutions for a service I was using to collect some data/metrics from our clusters.
Besides, they were always very fast in replying, and interested in understanding, replicating, and solving the problem.
I truly recommend it.

You can lose everything at anytime without any notice for no reason at all

From DO Terms of Service Agreement:
12. Termination: "...we reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to terminate your access to all or any part of the Websites and/or Services at any time, with or without notice, effective immediately. "

So if you use DO, you can lose everything at anytime without any notice for no reason at all.

Is it sensible to trust them with your project under these terms? I think not.

Simple and historically good value, but DO could do better.

Despite generally good experience over a number of years, I was surprise to find that Digital Ocean has no testing regime to find out if AWS-SDK-V3 works with SPACES. When it did not, DO were not interested as it was an error in the AWS-SDK-V3 library that did not affect usage with AWS but did with DO. As one of the common libraries for using SPACES, you would think DO would be interest in ensuring it worked.

Another issue that has annoyed me is the container registry pricing and policy. Basically makes using containers on app platform expensive.

Good perfornace, friendly support

After trying some vps provider vulter, aws, alibab cloud, kamatera. I found that DigitalOcean and linode are the only ones who didn't complain about cpu usage.
Response of the support to Refund of rest credit was done quick

Information is not deleted when you close your account

I was only on the Digital Ocean site for 10 minutes. I did not select a plan as it was unclear what I would be signing up for. I deactivated my account within the hour. Yet I am getting emails about potential billing, and when I contact support, they agree I deactivated my account, but they want me to provide all my credit card information through an email to determine if I have other accounts with them. Everything about this is dodgy... don't delete my information; must sign up with credit card information before seeing what I could choose, want my credit card information through email... this is wrong in so many ways.

Instant account lock with no explanation or help

After hearing a lot about digital ocean I've decided to test it out, create an account to host my database. Upon creating my account and providing my credit card, I've been immediately charged and account locked. No email explanation or nothing, after reaching out via support I've got a response within 1 minute saying that

Hello,

Thank you for registering for a DigitalOcean account. Our automated security tooling identified patterns that suggest your account is not eligible for activation, which resulted in an account lock. After review by our support staff, we have determined that restoring access to your account will not be possible.

which is absurd, I suggest trying other services as doing business like this is unacceptable

Arbitrarily deleted all my data, no recourse

Locked my account for breaching the terms of service. Wasn't doing anything remotely questionable. Fair enough though, reached out to ask why and to get it unlocked. They wouldn't tell me why, told me they had already conducted a 'final review' and that I wouldn't even be able to migrate my data off their platform!

Google them to see many other similar stories (I wish I had before using them). Not suitable for any production service, but ok otherwise as long as you are making very frequent backups.

Absolute scam artists.

Absolute scam artists.

I created a temporary droplet and database back in January whilst I had my $200 free credits. This was online for no longer than 1–2 hours. I then proceeded to delete these as I no longer needed them as I was only wanting to test something real quick.

They had me thinking both were completely deleted. Beginning of March, they proceed to take money from my PayPal/Bank account. I have proceeded to multiple times to gain a refund, and they flat out refuse and keep telling me I'm ineligible for one, which we all know is an absolute lie.

To put things in to perspective. This alleged invoice was dated for January 2023. My free credit ran out at the end of February 2023. They waited until the Beginning of March, after my free credit ran out, to bill me for something which wasn't even due in the first place as I had deleted my services with them.

I have been back and forth with them all week and getting nowhere. They have had plenty of chances to admit their wrong doings and rectify this. I will now be going out of my way to ensure the world knows what scammers they are. DO NOT sign up for their services at all for any reason as they will also scam you as well.

I thought I'd add to his as the…

I thought I'd add to his as the negative reviews seem to be growing larger and more legitimate.

I bought a server from DO to carry my employers sites across - utilising the ability to increase droplet resources when required.

1st domain I moved across I ended up moving it back to Shopify. The domain wouldn't resolved properly - it was using DOs DNS. Every email I got back from support led to support articles and never an actual resolve. I missed the deadline twice hence ended up moving it to Shopify.

2nd domain I haven't moved yet, but seeing it's run by amateurs and DO themselves say it's not foolproof - they seem to be OK enough to take you money.

I think it's good if you want a quick/cheap server for testing out various technologies - but for commercial use, a definite NO.

And, DO, a support ticket to yourselves isn't going to resolve the matter because by the looks of it your responses here are also generic/replicated.

Avoid Digital Ocean

An online trainer offered a $100 credit to use droplets for the training. I had two droplets that were only ever booted up while I was using them for a few hours. I found out DO was taking $96 out of my CC every month for three months. Because I got one of the charges disputed, DO closed my account.
