Missed one payment and they destroyed my droplet and backups

I am done with digitalocean, This is the second time they destroy one of my droplets for missing a payment. There is no grace period here, they will destroy all records including backups. I had an app that cost me 8k to develop and they completely detroyed it for missing a 150 usd monthly payment. they even destroy backups.. No courtesy archives, nothing! They are complete a***** holes. Moving to AWS.

Droplet in the ocean

My DO server (created via Cloudways) failed to restart after never having a problem before. TWELVE HOURS LATER, DO still not responded back to CW, so the only known fact was that it could not be reached via the network (very obvious). Ping was working though, so I left a 1 second ping writing to a log for 12 hours. There was not one interruption, meaning DO most likely did absolutely bugger all to the server during that whole period (no starting/stopping). After 14 hours still with no info from DO, I decided to bite the bullet and asked Cloudways to restore from backup (to a Vultr server - goodbye DO). Had to re-key a day of orders and product updates manually, but there was no indication whatsoever from DO if/when the server would be fixed whilst I'm continuing to lose hundreds in sales and reputational damage. My advice: don't use DO unless you're able to restore from your own DR backup quickly, because you are quite literally just a 'Droplet' in their Digital Ocean.

Digital Ocean Too Stupid to Trust?

Digital Ocean guys.. you are actively watching these bad reviews at TrustPilot, as you are commenting. Which is a plus, actually. But when you see posts go up day after day after day of people getting instantly locked out... yet it seems you never say to yourself "Hmmmm maybe we should readjust our policies as we are ticking off a lot of new customers?"

I can't comprehend the level of stupidity. Or you guys are making so much money you just dont care.

How about some guidelines online before we finish submitting of things we should and shouldnt do?! What makes your verifier happy?

YES I WAS BLOCKED ON INITIAL SIGN UP. AFTER PAYING PAYPAL! AFTER VERIFIYING EMAIL WITH LINK. AFTER VERIFYING EMAIL WITH SECURITY CODE.

Disappointing experience in first 3 minutes of registering

Signed up on the website using the free $ coupon/link. After filling in the form and paying with my personal paypal account I got automatic rejection of account.

Stumbled upon similar problems online so I wrote a message to support and within minutes got automatic reply with something in the line of our system decided not to give you an account.

I am not sure why this happened but I believe the coupons are usually made to attract new customers, however in case of digital ocean they are loosing customers straight after onboarding which in my opinion is a waste of time and resources at lead generation.

It works fine for me, not easy to use for people like me that are not developers. But is better than others companies I tried.

Grab your personal info, then lock you out

They get your personal info ; name, address, and credit card info, and then lock you out with the message "Account Locked - We are sorry to inform you that your account has been locked by DigitalOcean.".
Support page on that topic is 404, of course.

As an European citizen I'm now asking then to send me all the data they have about me, and then delete it. But that will take time.
Avoid this company.

Worst customer service ever

I opened an account with Digitalocean, my credit card was charged and immediately after that I was transferred to a web-page that says "account locked" without any further explanation. I opened a ticket which was closed 2 days later without response ([#04634284] Account locked). Then I posted on their community forum about my issue and my message got deleted...

This is honestly the worst customer service I've ever witnessed.

Don't use DigitalOcean

Don't use DigitalOcean, I don't recommend it for sensitive or production environments. Today in a strange way, being almost two months old, they have blocked my account, mentioning that it was for "Atypical Activity". The logical thing would be that they will mention that "Atypical Activity" was presented because it only had websites and the mail service that I tried so hard to remove from the blacklist because practically all the DO's ASN is blacklisted. The worst of the case is that I have clients who are going to look for me at home to burn me alive and DigitalOcean has the luxury of responding every 6 hours with a super mega generic response that seems taken from a draft with just the typical name change (Yes, that's exactly what you see even here, the same answer but with a different name).

Surely the menso comes to tell me by answering this comment to open a support ticket mentioning the incident. Know? I have almost 15 fuck1ng days waiting for a ticket to be answered and there it is still, waiting for them to answer it, or... that I ended up answering a bot with the most generic answer you will find on the internet.

Anyway, I do not recommend DigitalOcean at all. Vultr offers better service and technical support if they are people and they respond much faster.

Account Locked

They locked the account that I've just created. They first charge you and then lock your account. I don't need their stupid service. There are a lot of other providers who really cares about their customers.

Hosting criminals in a plain sight

It came out that DigitalOcean is a hoster behind some of the notorious criminal websites dedicated to software piracy, including ninjaload.com.

The legal/copyright contact at DigitalOcean was notified multiple times but left the notices of copyright infringement with no answer which is in a breach of the European Copyright Law which prescribes the service provider to act swiftly upon receiving such notices.

This effectively renders DigitalOcean an infringer themselves and opens them for a costly lawsuit - the rout we are likely to take.

Avoid this hoster at any cost if you don't want to share the server with criminals.

To all the people who give 4-5*…

To all the people who give 4-5* reviews,

I get you, I would have been in the same corner until rather recently, now I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from wasting all that energy and resources on DO.
After years of spending tens of thousands of dollars on their services we just woke up with our account blocked for no given reason and have no way of finding out what happened or why it was blocked.
I assume it's because of the awful job they do keeping track of who's using their resources at each particular time as on more than one occasion it happened for us to receive complaints which should have gone to another one of their users' but unfortunately there's noone to talk to on their side about it.
I would say their support department is terrible, but that would imply that they have one, don't expect to be able to ever talk to anything other than an auto-reply bot.

To give you an example of what you can expect after years of doing business with them:

So that's our personal experience with Digital Ocean. We used it for several years and were pleased with it (except some minor interruptions to their services and the fact that we never once got to talk to something that wasn't a chatbot) but if this the way they treat their customers we definitely can't recommend it, so if you wish to give it try good luck (you're definitely going to need it)

PS. And yes, I do expect their little chatbot to auto-reply below this review about how willing their non-existent support department is to further investigate the issue with us.

DO works perfectly so far.

They provide fast vps and they have very useful features for free.
However I'm concerned that they close accounts for no reason and that is pretty scary.

If it was possiple to leave them

Actually their servers and system are good.... but if you want to close your services a project a team, or delete your account, it is getting impossible.

You need to delete services you can not find. Delete teams that you can not because they use resources you can not disable, and a team need to have an owner.... even if you want to delete it, what a joke!. So it is biting your tail and you end up paying minor amounts every month because it is impossible to disable a service.

Support "can not", read will not help you, they want to keep you in this endless loop.

I guess my next step is to report them for holding my personal data hostage according to the GDPR law.

Terrible Service

Terrible Service! and poor choice of words, right after opening an account and providing Credit Card details, they charged me to verify the card details, I received a text from the bank that the transaction was successful but to my surprise digital ocean locked my out of my account and they sent me an email that my account can not be reinstated because they believe it was a fraudulent activity. that is a terrible choice of words to say to a customer, I was not committing any fraud, I just created my first ever account on digitalocean. This has never happened to me ever in my lifetime with any other service provider. STAY AWAY! NEVER TRY THEM! BIG SCAM!

I registered an account but a while later I started receiving SPAM on the email address I had used. So they sold my address to someone! I know for sure since it was a email address I only used with them! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Account locked after submitting CC details

I tried signing up for DigitalOcean and right after submitting my credit card details I got a message saying "we are sorry to inform you that your account has been locked by DigitalOcean". I NEVER had that happen anywhere else. I'm starting to think this company is a SCAM to steal your personal and financial information!
