Information is not deleted when you close your account

I was only on the Digital Ocean site for 10 minutes. I did not select a plan as it was unclear what I would be signing up for. I deactivated my account within the hour. Yet I am getting emails about potential billing, and when I contact support, they agree I deactivated my account, but they want me to provide all my credit card information through an email to determine if I have other accounts with them. Everything about this is dodgy... don't delete my information; must sign up with credit card information before seeing what I could choose, want my credit card information through email... this is wrong in so many ways.

I thought I'd add to his as the negative reviews seem to be growing larger and more legitimate.

I bought a server from DO to carry my employers sites across - utilising the ability to increase droplet resources when required.

1st domain I moved across I ended up moving it back to Shopify. The domain wouldn't resolved properly - it was using DOs DNS. Every email I got back from support led to support articles and never an actual resolve. I missed the deadline twice hence ended up moving it to Shopify.

2nd domain I haven't moved yet, but seeing it's run by amateurs and DO themselves say it's not foolproof - they seem to be OK enough to take you money.

I think it's good if you want a quick/cheap server for testing out various technologies - but for commercial use, a definite NO.

And, DO, a support ticket to yourselves isn't going to resolve the matter because by the looks of it your responses here are also generic/replicated.

They have the option on the website to…

They have the option on the website to contact sales, and once you fill the form you receive automatic email

"

We received your submission on our contact sales form. We apologize that we cannot help by connecting you with a member of our sales team. While we’d like to spend one-on-one time with every single person who has a question, we do not have a team large enough to respond to each question we receive. "

This is clearly a joke company they don't care about startups and put priority on only big clients. So if you plan to spend $10k /mo don't expect the answer.

Terrible

Waste of time

Waste of time. Signed up. Heard nothing back, despite adding $10 to my account. Then my account was 'closed' mysteriously. Support is slow. In the end it took 5 follow up emails to get my refund processed. I finally got a refund after 8 days.

Now I understand why companies chose AWS, Azure etc over small operations like Digital Ocean who don't seem to be able to run a business properly - even one as simple as a hosting business.

Appalling customer service

Appalling customer service. Deleted my droplet over a late payment of $7. This despite me trying to set up a card payment with them. I did receive an email saying my droplet was "at risk of being deleted" (their exact works) - but they deleted it regardless of the warning. Real shame but speaks volumes about what this think of customers.

This is the WORST company for customer…

This is the WORST company for customer service! It is completely unacceptable how they deal with their customers. They don't have a phone number, they don't answer emails, when they answer after a long wait, they provide you useless information. I can't believe how they became a big company with that so bad customer service.

Non existent DDos whatsoever

Non existent DDos whatsoever.
I received DDos attacks on a droplet, all i was getting is an automatic email that informs me that my website & apps are all offline due to their "BLACKHOLE". It is 2020 and DigitalOcean doesn't spend a penny on decent minor DDos protection when i got a tiny 2GBp/s attack! If you have any serious website running i advise you to avoid them at all cost especially if you have bad competitors that can DDos you.

Extremely poor support and service

Tell me how should i contact my customers without email?
Support did't give any chance to use outgoing smtp relays, even G-Suite accounts.
They simply blocks any outgoing requests to popular smtp relays.
Must wait 60 days before they review again your status. How can you do business without email these days?
The only option they gave me is to deactivate my account and leave them.

Hormel Pie more like

Hormel Pie more like; this hosting company is abused by illegal spammers. Because Digital Ocean do nothing about it, I asked them to blacklist my email across their entire server farm as I do not want any more spam from their users. I am now going through the process of blocking Digital Ocean's entire IP range in an attempt to block this abuse.

Do business with a company like this? No thanks, and I would recommend others avoid them too.

If you care about your data

If you care about your data. DO NOT USE these people.

There are several documented cases, where they've intentionally deleted users data as a way to punish them for trivial, fixable policy violations. You get a warning, if you miss the emails, within about 4-5 weeks they'll destroy your data.

Don't get sick for long. Don't go on extended vacation without continually checking your email. You have to stay vigilant if you have a DigitalOcean account, or you might just lose everything.

Hello Alex,

I sincerely apologize that you had this experience with us. Our system sends a suspension email every 2 days for a duration of 5 weeks, including powering off the droplets for the final two weeks as an extra measure.

However we understand that losing data is upsetting under any circumstance and we would love to see if there is anything we can do to help. Could you please open a ticket for us here so that we can look into this in further detail? https://www.digitalocean.com/company/contact/

Horrible Support

Horrible Support
I got a DMCA notice which I responded to in less than 24 hours with proof that it was a misunderstanding and that I have not violated any law. To be safe I even removed the post from my website while I was waiting for the outcome of the case. Waited 2 weeks with no response then I receive an email saying my website has been taken down because I didn't respond. I forwarded my previous email in response and opened another ticket with all the information I had provided previously and still no one got back to me.

I received a fake email from Google. When I looked up the IP address, it was from DigitalOcean.com. Maybe soneone used their services to send an email that demanded a reply(which when clicked on, would most assuredly delivered some type of malware) however, the trail les to that company

They suspended your account with all…

They suspended your account with all the droplets. But, unable to provide a valid reason. Mine was just a WP event site on nginx which they never re-enabled. Talk about it!
Huge issues in clarity, I'd say. Do not use this service.

Locked my account for trying to pay them. As soon as the paypal transfer went through, they locked my account and began ignoring my emails.

They told me that even APPEARING fraudulent to their automatic system (By...paying them? No idea how I tripped that) is a violation of their TOS.

Not a professional company, you'll be better off with Squarespace.

My credit card expired and I wasn't able to update it due to personal reasons (not because of lack of funds - I just didn't monitor the email address where the automated emails were being sent)

I owed them $11 which I paid for in full only to find out they had completely deleted my website. They had my phone number, they could have texted me or given me a call to confirm before deleting my work. 6 years of content down the drain. I'm not super tech-savvy, I guess that's on me.

Now no one is replying to my emails.
WHO THE HELL DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE.

They will sell your email and start SPAMMING you!

I registered an account but a while later I started receiving SPAM on the email address I had used. So they sold my address to someone! I know for sure since it was a email address I only used with them! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Signed up 5 days ago and my droplet is still inactive. No reaction to email, support ticket or social media message. That was my first and last try to go with DigitalOcean. Can clearly not recommend a company with such a horrible customer support.
