Horrible experience with Microsoft store buying an xbox

I chose to buy a refurbished Xbox directly from the Microsoft Store because I assumed it would be the safest option. It wasn’t. The console arrived completely dead and would not power on at all. I followed all troubleshooting steps with no success.

Getting support was extremely frustrating. The chatbot was useless, and it took significant effort to reach a real person. One agent called me and spent time trying to sweet-talk me into leaving her a positive review instead of fixing the issue. When I said I needed a clear, concrete solution and would not agree to that, she hung up on me.

After that, I dealt with a second agent via chat. When I questioned their return policy, that agent simply stopped responding altogether.

Microsoft’s only solution was to make me ship the Xbox back, wait for it to be received, then wait up to 14 days for a refund, and only after that place a new order. They refused to replace the defective unit or cross-ship a working one, even though it was dead on arrival. This refund-and-reorder policy is inefficient and unacceptable for a company this large.

They sent a faulty product, provided poor support, and forced an unnecessarily long and frustrating return process. Once my refund is issued, I will never buy from the Microsoft Store again. Other retailers handle this far better.

21 wait time when #1 in the que on chat, how is that even possible?

Tried to make a purchase, when I confirmed the order the order confirmation number flashed up for a couple seconds followed by an error message. Not knowing if the order went through I started a chat communication. I was advised it would take 21 minutes to be connected with an agent even though I was #1 in the que. How in the world would it take that long to connect? Total waste of my time so I disconnected, logged in to my account and found the order pending so I cancelled it. I'm not going to deal with Microsoft store if they can't figure out how to help folks a little more effectively.

Cant Limit the Download Speed

Cant Limit the Download Speed. There are options to slow down the download but they dont work. Thesettings just get ignored. I have to decide to download something or to watch IP TV for example. The Software is broken. 1 Star

How the mighty have fallen!

I should have checked here, but this used to be a great company so I had no hesitation ordering a Surface Laptop directly from them.
Next day I decided to hold off a bit and attempted to cancel.
Computer says No!, even though it hadn't even been processed. I was told to return it upon receipt, or quote "block the credit card payment".
Upon receipt I initiated a return - no problem, download a UPS label, arrange collection - no problem.
So item was delivered back promptly.
9 days later, status is still "Return in Progress". Spent half an hour on the chat and managed to fight my way past the bot to get to a representative. He eventually said he could do nothing, but raised a support case and gave me a reference number, saying I would be contacted in 3 - 5 days. Still waiting.....
Meanwhile I tracked the item to a large logistics warehouse run by a third party company Arvato in the midlands, so basically, MIcrosoft are not directly involved with their shipping or returns.
I'd have been better off buying through Amazon. Love them or hate them, at least their systems work.

HORRIBLE APP!

HORRIBLE APP!! Microsoft Store(the app that comes with it on there to search for apps and games) keeps INSTANTLY FREEZING up when searching for the Roblox-Windows app causing me to terminate the app in the process. NEVER AGAIN!! I uninstalled the Microsoft Store app for this reason.

Crap, crap, crap

Look to the Savannah Bananas for customer appreciation. Look to the Microsoft store for telling customer your worthless. Crappy software is crappy software even if it is a few dollars. Never again.
It's not worth my time. I used lots of shareware sites. Microsoft App Store is the worst of the worst.

Case # ******9710

Case # 7084139710 - Missing Keyboard for Order # ******1863
On Aug 8th 2025, I purchased a Surface Pro laptop, along with the matching keyboard and pen Order # ******1863. The package was delivered by UPS on Aug 12th 2025. Upon opening the shipment, I immediately discovered that the keyboard, a separate item valued at nearly $300, was missing from the box. All items were supposed to be shipped together in a single package.
Within hours of delivery on Aug 12th 2025 I contacted Microsoft Support to report the missing item. A case was opened for me Case # ******9710. I complied fully with the agent's instructions, providing photographs of the received products (Surface Pro), the interior packaging, the shipping box, and shipping material to demonstrate the keyboard was not included.
My case was escalated, and I was told I would hear back in a few days. On Aug 15th 2025 I was informed via email my case number was under further review. Now, seven days later, I have received another email with a request for additional photographs of the original large box my order was shipped in, which I no longer possess. This is an unreasonable request, as I have already provided comprehensive visual evidence immediately after the incident when the packaging was available.
The Surface Pro is functionally incomplete without its keyboard. I have paid for a product I have not received, and the delays in resolving this are unacceptable.
Furthermore, I have multiple Microsoft accounts. Ironically, upon calling back in on Aug 19th 2025, about case # ******9710, the account I made this purchase under will no longer allow me to access the account. Microsoft is forcing me to create another account.
I have been a patient and loyal Microsoft customer, but this experience has been highly disappointing.

Microsoft generally should just shut down

Like Seriously let's just be honest this company should just go out of business I mean it should just shut down for good take this example I was downloading am app called ubisoft connect so that I can play siege it took like 45 more tries just to install it and am not lying I was counting amd it was 45 tries and once it Installed it never worked properly it kept on kicking me out on its own j couldn't even create an account like I had to go on Google just so i could download the same app and yet you claim to have the same features as Google or even better no you do not Google is a million times better than you just shut down the buisness and never reopen a Microsoft buisness ever again I hope this reiveiw would be put in to consideration and I have a million more reasons why this app is shit thank you have the worst rest of your days ever good bye

I bought surface laptop and keyboard on May 18, 2025. Since the keybard is small for my external monitor, I returned the keyboard back to Microsoft store on May 29th. I wait untill June 17th, no response from Microsoft and no refund. I chatted with sale rep. on line and told me the refund should be within 3 to 5 business day. I waited until June 26th, no refund. Then I chatted on line again, had another case and told me 3 to 5 business day. Waited until today July 2nd, no refund. Call the service number answer by rep. from India, She is fine but nothing she can do but send e-mail to other department to escclate the case and hope get their attention to process the refund. I am so frustrated and thinking file complain to comsumer affair or BBB. I am advising when you purchase anything from the store makesure you are not going to return the product, since it will waste a lot of time and frustrating. If Microsoft store refund department see this review the case # is 7079682898 and todsy's case # is 7079775750.

Stream wouldn't download - waste of money

Terrible. I paid for a film stream through Microsoft store, and it wouldn't load. They took my money anyway though! There is no straightforward way to complain, and no way to request a refund.
I wish I'd read the reviews first! Don't use this service - there are other, much more reliable ones.

Barely functioning

Updates rarely work (u have to install the whole thing again),downloads crash every 100MB,customere service is an automated responce to recreate the problem and once you do they don't reply.

McAfee informs me the download had a virus.
Was informed by McAfee that the file had a Virus. Bought and paid for MSFT Publisher 2021, and when I tried to download the file, behold there was a virus detected and I was blocked from loading it. What a waste of time and money - these guys should be shut down and had I looked at this reviewing site, I would never have bought from them.

I have some I.T. experience. I needed a "Mouse Jiggler" app. I bought the app off the Microsoft store for $5. The app was not downloading upon purchase. I troubleshooted the system for est. 180 minutes. I'm pretty sure I will never be able to access and use the software I paid them for. I am very frustrated because they're failing at the minimum viable product of an entire widget store ($5 utility widgets).

Awful. I have had a $200 gift card to this store for three years now and I can't believe how broken and sad the website is. Outdated and very specific accessories and very few of them. Not user friendly to navigate. I bought some TV show downloads just to try to use a bit of the gift card and these are also not able to cast to TV. The microsoft store is embarrassing. I do not understand how it is this bad and for such a long period of time it seems to be getting worse. 0 out of 10 buy literally anywhere else.

if i could give it 0 i would. when you sign in and get your password wrong it says to try again. then when you get it right it says there was an error something went wrong but downloads the thing you are going for. this thing is a piece of poo and should have a lot of work put into it.

The most un-usable piece of big Corp garbage that has ever been made. There are too many things that are horrendously wrong to enumerate them all. But one of them could be that when i press download IT ACTUALLY DOWNLOADS THE APP I WANT ? OR MAYBE THAT WHEN I ASK TO SEE THE DOWNLOAD PROGRESS IT SHOWS ME THE ACTUAL PROGRESS NOT SOME TINY 12x12 CIRCLE THAT FILLS UP AT THE PACE OF A HANDICAPED SNAIL ? The Microsoft store fails at everything it has been made for, and even fails at the things it hasn't been made for. Please someone save us of this era of private software.

Refund policy is a joke, "Significant amount of time" apparently means any time and "Limited number of returns per year" is apparently Zero. Attempted to return game after having for 2 days, initially refused on basis that I had too many refunds already, 0... there is no appeal possible to this decision. Contact customer service, who say no refund due to having used the game at all. Terrible service, and I am pretty sure

On the rare occasion it works, it's awful. Slow, crashes. Why microsoft are trying to compete with the likes of the play store and apple store baffles me if this is their attempt.

Pre-ordered the series x 2tb console rang up and constantly got outsourced staff that don't know there job rolls and think they are the be all and end all when wanting to make a complaint, I really don't know who trains these people but that person needs sacking, disgusting customer service, I've been a customer since 1998 and I've never been treated so poorly. I urge all customers to avoid this section of Microsoft.

Microsoft's idea of progress is going backward.Yesterday, I purchase one time license of Office 2024 - so I thought!. To make a purchase, I logged in more than 16 times received as many pass codes and resets played countless robot game (despite the fact that I had passkey and should have used my fingerprint on the computer). Finally after downloading the Office I noted that it's Office 365 they have given me. I wouldn't touch Office 365 with a barge board, so not only they are stupid and rubbish in their service, they are crooks too (if behaving like one they must be one)
