out of business but still charging

they no longer support their products and shutdown their forums in 2016 but continue to charge for their products that no longer work. For example, their support page lists up to version 4.7 of wordpress. 4.8 came out in 2017, 2 years ago, and that's still not an option to choose.

WARNING: THIS SOFTWARE IS BROKEN AND FULL OF BUGS

WARNING: this company is now stealing money from customers outright! people can still buy this utterly broken software, only to discover that it does not work and NO ONE answers tech support! look at enginethemes dot com and it looks operational. but look at their tech support at forum dot engine themes dot com (no links allowed here) and you can see they have not answered any support questions since 2017. i don't know if the company is bankrupt or just ignoring customer requests.

this software has bugs which you can not see until you are deep into setting up. i found a new one today which could ruin a startup! i mean, imagine setting up and registering members, and then shutting down for a week because of a bug which would not reveal until you have live users on the site. fortunately i found this before the actual launch.

and i agree with another review here on trustpilot: someone is still selling this broken software through the website but essentially stealing the money because they know the program is broken and they are not supporting it in any way.

this is a creepy world in which companies sell software before it's finished, and without testing. bogus people now put a cute wrapper on open source code and sell it like it's their own work! promise tricks that don't exist. when you ask a question they slide sideways. but this is not that.

there was a mishap here... this was not intentional fraud from the beginning. the code base of freelance engine shows that talented coders put a lot of thought and energy into this app. something went wrong along the way. in my experience marketing people sell things that don't exist or are not finished.

i have corrected many of the problems in the "freelance engine" plugin sold by this company. the "skills search" filter does not work at all. in fact, it hides results which make visitors think there are no users on the site!! the ratings and reviews code did not actually calculate and display the ratings, just showed the hollow stars without fill in all but one view. it was like they got to this point in coding the app and everyone suddenly abandoned ship.

and you can see in their tech support forum the point where there is a dialog going on... and then it suddenly stops. people put a lot of work into this app and then some event shut everything down while the code was not fully tested and debugged.

this company deserves zero stars in a simplistic world where no one investigates a story. people just feel cheated and angry. i suspect that it was not the fault of the coders that the company did not succeed. and i doubt that anyone would intentionally make a mess like this for so many people. a group of talented people put a LOT of effort into this code. if you probe into it you can see that energy they put into the components.

my guess is there was pressure to sell the app before it was finished. that happens in startups with funding goals.

really sad to see this much work wasted! i've edited this review about 10 times during the course of 3 months of work correcting issues. it's a roller coaster.

hopefully this is the last time i have to revise this rating!!!

i see no hope for ordinary customers to resolve the problems in this code.

LET US ALL FILE A CRIMINAL ACTION FOR FRAUD

We are all a victim of this scammer. This time we would no longer vent our grievances through websites. I am intending to file a criminal action for fraud here in Canada and USA. Through collective effort, we could reach other countries judicial system as well. This would be an international offense. Please send me your email and I would create a group so we could altogether institute an appropriate criminal action. I am a legal practitioner in Canada. I have studied international law and currently a licensed legal practitioner. Email is forbidden to be posted here. Contact me on my website vizcolaw.com

If you could send authorization to file action and your receipt as proof that you paid them, please do. Vietnam's economy is growing. I am optimistic that we can enforce foreign courts decision there or at least they would be arrested or be banned from entering countries where they were held criminally liable for fraud. I would exert all legal remedies to find redress for our grievances.

I need your support and help. Thank you!

DO NOT PURCHASE ENGINE THEMES!

DO NOT PURCHASE ENGINE THEMES!
Absolutely trash customer service. We wanted a refund because their theme wasn't as customisable as they claimed it to be - with any other company a refund would've been simple. Not with these guys - their BIGGEST FEAR is the fact that people will download their software, ask for refund and keep using their software.

As a business owner, and just common sense for most people, only a very, very small percentage of people would do this. Those who truly value your product will rightly pay for it. Their fear means that it costs them thousands more in lost revenue because they leave unhappy customers such as myself who will never buy from them again, and I will never recommend them to anyone else (AND I'm leaving negative reviews where ever I can to warn potential customers)!

Also, they only give you up to 85% back of your original purchase price. They don't say this anywhere on their site, and how much they wish to refund is completely up to their discretion. They gave me 80% back, with no indication as to how they reached that arbitrary value.

It makes sense they don't have Reviews feature enabled on their Facebook page - without a doubt there'd be a flood of negative reviews!

Go elsewhere for your themes!

Their customer services is the worst

Their customer services is the worst. So many bugs and issues with features. If you message them nonstop they may eventually reply, but then you have to deal with them not understanding what you are talking about, and then you have to reply to try and clarify, and cross your fingers they actually respond again. Horrible, horrible customer service that ruins what could be a great plugin.

Themes have bugs & no customer service or support

The themes have bugs, as many others have reported, and the support is useless.
It takes them weeks to reply to emails, often with constant chasing, and the replies will generally be completely stupid, unhelpful and nothing at all with the email they are replying to, they also blatantly lie.

They completely refuse to refund no matter what the reason, so you will be forced to do a chargeback via your card company. Sadly they are so thick they do not know what a chargeback is either, so will just argue with you over this too.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVEN AT THE…

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVEN AT THE COST OF YOUR LIFE!

I spent 89 bucks to get MicrojobEngine Theme and while the theme is wonderful for what it should do, it isn't customizable. In other words, you are unable of adding your own feel, presentation and touch to the theme while retaining the functionality.

But why not contact support about this problem? BECAUSE SUPPORT ISN'T REAL! Once you've paid your money they are done with you and don't care about you or your experience with their product. The product isn't what it is advertised to be and they offer no help to those who are non-professionals except ignoring your messages as they see it fit. And then they have the audacity to ask for the login credentials to the admin area for my website as if I am stupid enough to trust con artists like these people.

I only blame myself for using them without finding out that they are such a horrible company. I will find a way to let others know about these scammers so they spend their hard earned cash elsewhere.

I am a very disappointment client of EngineTheme

I had a really bad experience working with EngineThemes and this is why:

1. The product description is not as the product is really is. I decided to buy the MicroJobEngine theme, as at the product description, it was mentioned that the template supports the following: Advanced Filtering, Custom Fields, and Google Maps. Although the live demo didn’t include those features, I trusted the company’s statement that all the mentioned above will work well and bought the template in its best version which cost 159$. Once I started working with the template, I realized that the advanced filtering is actually very basic, limited and can’t be modified. The custom fields option doesn’t work and you can’t change the fields which are shown in the template (you can’t take any of them off) and last, the Google maps feature must be inserted manually, as text, something that the ones who would post a job won’t know how to do it and therefore it is useless.

2. Slow customer support: it takes them 2 to 4 days to reply to emails

3. Misleading and unhelpful support: most of my emails to their support team, were replied by ‘you should contact a web developer’, on one email they replied that they can help, but it wasn’t enough, as the template didn’t work as it was promised. So I asked for a refund, as I couldn’t use the template as I needed (I had to have advanced filtering, custom fields and Google maps), they declined my request. So I wrote them back asking from them to at least change the one thing they confirmed they can do, they wrote me back, saying that they are sorry, but they can’t help me and that I should contact a web developer.

4. From my experience I can say that there is no real 14 days refund as they describe, even if you just can’t work with their template. In their refund policy, they explain that as they provide a live demo, clients should know which product they are about to receive and therefore refunds will be provided only in special cases. But as the product description and the live demo don’t really match, it leaves us the clients helpless without any possibility to receive any consideration from their side, even if our reasons are justified, they are covered.

I don’t know if I will ever see the 159$ that I invested buying this template, unfortunately, from my experience, EngineTheme cares more about money than happy clients. But I can share my experience with you, hoping that you won’t go through the unpleasant experience which I had to go through.

EngineThemes has dishonest and deseptive terms of service, and do not provide what they promise to paying customers

I purchased DirectoryEngine 12 months ago for full price based on the Terms of Service posted on their website. To download the purchased theme files they state they will provide a user account to login and access the files. Listed clearly in their website TOS a purchase grants customer rights to 12 months of product updates and support, and perpetual use rights under GPL.

I wish that was true. In my case the latest update was published right before our support expired, and now it is a few days past the 12 months, and they refuse to provide access to the update or the originally purchased product files and updates.

Not only has EngineThemes removed access to the files I originally purchased, EngineThemes true character has been made clear when they justify this policy citing a set of terms via email which are substantially different than their public website terms of service. And they refuse to acknowledge they are presenting different terms of service before and after the sale. This is illegal in the US and is considered deceptive trade practice. I have no legal recourse because this company is in China.

I'm actually quite embarrassed I chose EngineThemes to begin with. Looking at other reviews and their extensive FAQ on all the things they refuse to do, or their customer should not expect from their purchase... I would say this is the one of the very worst companies to buy a theme from.

Do you own research on the character and support policies of EngineThemes before you risk your good money on one of their products.
