How is this place even open
How is this place even open? Why do they keep building more stores when they can’t even get people to work at the ones they have. This whole franchise is a joke. They only hire the dumbest rudest laziest people ever because they don’t pay shit. Everything they sell is outdated and broken. It’s funny at this point that people go to a place as cheap and rip off as this

I visited the family dollar store on…
I visited the family dollar store on market street in pottsville pa. I observed a customer taking a lot of candy and leaving the store.(there was no cashiers up front). I told an employee jerry that the guy just took a handful of candy and left. He said to me he's probably on drugs and needs a sugar fix. The next day the guy approached me and said thatthe cashier jerry said I accused him of stealing and doing drugs. So I approached the manager and she told me she gave my name to him. I told her that's the thanks I get for helping the store after being a day to day customer. I told crystal I was no longer coming to the store and she said good. She said she wasn't having anyone coming into her store yelling at her. To me if she wouldn't have mentioned my name there would be no problem. As of today I am seeking a lawyer on the company for compensation for the employees for putting me in physical harm by mentioning my name. I loved shopping there till Saturdays incident.

Shake-down joint
Bought a roll of Scotch tape, which was clearly marked on the shelf for $1.00. Cashier charged me $3.50. When I brought this to her attention, expecting her to refund the difference immediately or at least to credit and re-run the transaction, she acknowledged the mistake but told me I would have to wait till she finished with the other customers behind me, she could not refund cash, and it would take 7-8 business days to refund my card. She knew I wouldn't want to wait. I was so angry, I Ieft, vowing never to darken their door again. It's a shake-down joint! Family Dollar at 2017 S Broad St, Winston Salem, NC. Avoid it like a swollen raccoon carcass.

Horrible Business - Family Dollar in Chicago
First if they negative stars I would rather use that because 1 star is even too much credit for this poorly run organization and its staff.
I happened to go into the store today at 1425 W. Morse Ave in Chicago, of which we frequent a lot during the month for dry goods, cleaning supplies and other various items.
During my visit to the store today (07/03/2025) I happened to stop in for some dry goods, and went directly to the check out line (of which was long as usual, due to lack of proper staffing and checkout infrastructure. I happened to be on my phone ( not great as some may see it) but I just so happened to receive a most important call right prior to getting into line at the checkout. In stepping up to get checked out my conversation on the phone with person on the other line was getting a little elevated in tone, and so the young lady (employee for FD) was standing behind the counter working on something (other employee was checking me out) when your employee with her back to me for she was occupied doing something behind the counter must have thought my private conversation with other party on my phone, that I was speaking to her or about the store. When in fact was not true at all, and so she turns around and starts to lecture me now, and I stated directly back with level tone " Excuse me but I am not speaking to you or anyone here" so please leave me alone response and she kept it up like she was trying to engage me for some reason, not sure why, and so upon completion of my purchase as I was about to exit the store, she really started to lay it on and stated " some people come in here and act all privileged", and some other words, and then she came on very strong, and stated to me directly " don't ever come back to this store, and keep your white ass out of here" and your not welcome here"
I suggested after that comment, she might wish to be careful for it could possibly jeopardize her employment with the company.
Had, she simply stated after my original comment of I was not talking with you, and clearly she could see on was on the phone, maybe a more appropriate response might have been to say, I am sorry, excuse me and went about here work, but no she had to start coming on strong with her words of total disrespect and making a scene for all to see.
This is not acceptable at anytime in any business anywhere in the US, we should not allow this to happen as companies, and should not tolerate this behavior or should I say lack thereof business behavior at anytime. She I would not believe have the power to suggest I am not welcome, nor should ever return to the store. I would like to mention never during this interaction did I ever raise my voice, and or disrespect her person, and of course her race or gender.
Just for FYI here I and now my wife use to work for this company many years ago, and we managed one of the largest stores in Chicago for the company. I would like to say we turned in tremendous results in all categories for the company, and I can assure you my now wife (was my asst. mgr at the time) would never tolerate any type of this behavior and in the event it ever took place that staff person was pulled off the floor immediately, and reprimanded accordingly. If anyone would have acted out in this manner like your employee did today, and talked to a customer like she spoke to me, she would have been terminated immediately and escorted from our store.
We as a nation have grown accustom to less than good service, less than professional courtesy, and for sure racial over tones, but we still continue to patronize certain business with our hard earned dollars, only to be treated and accept bad service.
We all need to demand accountability from these companies, whether it be Family Dollar, Walgreens, the local grocery store, Jewel Food Stores etc... It is not and should not be acceptable and some retraining and better supervision should be a must. Companies wonder why they are struggling to stay in business and or show better profits, but fail to see the problems are right in front of them from poor, untrained staff, to stores that look horrible and are not presentable.
Family Dollar stores are suffering in many locations, and will continue to suffer and close stores until the corporate management does what they should and get out into the stores, higher better middle management staffing, and do their jobs better to show that they care about the daily operations.
I will be sending a letter directly to the CEO of this company to alert him to all with hopes it may be a wake up call for this company to act accordingly.
P.S. If you wish to discuss with us how to grow your organization and make it a great place to work and profits increased more than you can imagine, feel free to respond to this posting by contacting us. We know how to run businesses and with great staff...
In the meantime think twice on spending here

Taxed on food items (non-taxable)
I purchased a couple cans of CH Ground Coffee in May 2025. Hey, its not Starbucks but its drinkable if you're not fully awake. They charged tax on the item (which seemed suspicious, and sure enough the item is NY non-taxable when I checked). I tried to get a refund at the cashier, but I might as well have not bothered. I then posted the receipt 2x to the corporate website with no response. Why the company prefers minor overages to escalate like this is beyond me.

rock bottom had a retail chain
rock bottom had a retail chain, it would be this dump. Walking into Family Dollar felt like entering a forgotten storage unit after a tornado. Shelves were half-empty or just plain trashed, with items scattered like a raccoon had a tantrum in every aisle. Nothing was where it should be, unless “organized chaos” is now a corporate strategy.
The staff? I’ve seen more energy and competence in a potted plant. One employee was loudly FaceTiming behind the counter while customers lined up like cattle, and when I dared to ask for help, they sighed so hard I thought they’d pass out. Sorry to interrupt your riveting conversation about absolutely nothing.
And don’t expect the prices to match the signs — apparently math is optional here. The place looked like it hadn’t seen a mop, a manager, or a functioning brain cell in months. I left feeling robbed of time, money, and dignity.
If you're looking to ruin your day, breathe in dust, and question humanity, Family Dollar is waiting. Bring low expectations — and maybe a hazmat suit.

I stopped at the Family Dollar in…
I stopped at the Family Dollar in Federal Heights CO mid-morning. When I was at check out the women told me to have a nice day. I acknowledged her back by telling her the same. She did not make eye contact with me but instead she looked toward the ceiling and slightly rolled her eyes. Her body language told me that she didn't mean what she said. I was shocked to say the least. Please have a conversation with her. She is dealing with the public and may need more customer service training. Overall, prior to this visit I have never had any issues with employees at this location.

The family dollar in claymont on…
The family dollar in claymont on Philadelphia Pike . There is a man he is the manager. He is rude. Disrespectful and just doesn't care at all about the customer. Ive been to the store four different times an each time he was working the register. He was extremely loud on his phone the entire time cussing at whoever was on the phone. The entire store could hear him. The line was insanely long cause he wasn't paying attention to what he was doing. Too busy cussing on the phone about his baby momma an h
Child support. He was very rude . And we had tons of stuff no remembering that there's no bags. And he all but yelled at my sister cause she wanted to take the cart outside. Throwing it out there that he didn't care he is the manager n we don't know . Blah blah it's the one right next to food Lion .

I feel like this store is very…
I feel like this store is very disorganized. After sitting in waiting for over 10 minutes on a line, finally, another cashier was called to the register to assist the other two whose registers weren’t working or open. I found it very rude and disrespectful that after I placed my items on the counter, the manager comes and tells the cashier to ring up her items behind the counter. And paid behind the counter that’s not how a business is supposed to be ran.

This cashier told me to kiss her (a**) and kept signaling that using her mouth and touching her behind. Enough times that customers in line with children told her to act like she was at her job not at a bar. The language on this “woman” was beyond me. When I asked to speak to the manager she said she is the owner.
I beg to differ as this store would not be open after the way she treats paying customers.
I was able to record and take pictures as she would not stop. How is this allowed when the store has so many cameras that can catch this employee harassing me on this visit and previous visits as well. I am waiting for a response from the compliance office with corporate family dollar but speaking to someone local would be ideal as I would hate this experience to happen to anyone else. I was able to take multiple pictures as this employee feels that comfortable that there will be no repercussions for her actions.

Big Stone Dump - Do not go to BSG,VA
If I could give a no star review I would.
The store manager does nothing but sleep in the office, harass customers, and threaten to fire his employees if they aren’t doing his work for him that isn’t managerial level.
- He refuses to help check out at the cash register, he ignores the phone, he takes money home with him, he breaks the store locks, he doesn’t make copies of the keys for his employees, he threatened his employees for the most trivial of things, he has made spouses of employees cry in the middle of the store by yelling at them IN THEIR FACE because of being there more than just a few minutes, and continuously badgers female employees while trying to strong arm the male employees to do what he wants.
- He badmouths employees in front of customers, while trying to turn them all against each other, and purposely sets employees up for failure in tasks by not training anyone and expecting other employees to do it.
- The turnaround is to the point no one stays for more than a few months, and only three have been there for more than a year at most because of his constant harassment and illegal activities.
- He has given countless people food poisoning by lying and returning expired product to the shelves, also restocks storage containers and broken goods too high to the point they can and have fallen before on employees and customers. He blames employees for not moving it, when he is the one who put them up there.
The employees do their best with only ever having 2 people in the store at a time because they can’t afford more than that, and the store manager just sits on his backside the entire day doing nothing to help anyone, so I can’t complain about that. However, I will complain when he threatens cancer patients and employees going through a really hard time with expulsion and continues to make a horrific hostile environment for them to force them to quit on their own since he can’t legally fire them.
Atrocious behavior, disgusting man. Do not support this place whatsoever, the employees have earned a break with not getting paid nearly enough to deal with this man alone, less so the sheer amount of shop lifters that keep attacking the store specifically.

205 Oak St, HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT
205 Oak St, Conway, AR 72032
Do NOT shop here if you have a stroller or children with you or even just in general!! I have been a loyal customer at this specific location for 8 years and NEVER have I been treated so poorly! Me, my husband, both of my children(ages 5 and 3 months old), along with my disabled brother in law were shopping at around 6:30pmish on 02/04/2025. We only needed a couple small items and we were using the stroller with its attached basket for the items. The front door has a sign stating "No backpacks", which is understandable because so many people steal from this location. In the 8 years I've shopped at this location I've never once been treated so poorly by any member of staff when it comes to my stroller. I get it, I could easily steal something if I wanted to. But I digress. This woman claiming to be the evening manager, who didn't have any identification of being a manager or even a name tag very rudely walks up and shoves a shopping cart at us saying we HAVE to use the shopping cart and NOT the stroller. There was no other explaination other than "you have to use the cart". We take the cart because again, we get it we could be stealing, but if this "manager" would have been nicer and just explained why then I wouldn't be here writing this review.
Oh but it gets even better. We go to check out and one of the other associates asked my husband if he was having a good day and if everything was alright. He calmly explained the situation, even though the entire store full of employees and customers witnessed what this manager did. We check out and leave, and this manager(sure didn't act like one however) follows us outside just to berate us in the parking lot and yell and I quote "I DONT CARE IF YOURE MAD OR IRRITATED I CAN BAN YOU FROM THIS STORE!!" as customers are walking in. This store has cameras mind you. This woman not only yelled at 3 fully grown adults, but yelled at us in front of young children who dont understand what is going on!!
As she didn't have any kind of name tag on, I don't know her name but I hope that whoever her superior is fires her. And the store needs to put up a new sign stating "No Backpacks or Strollers". I hope no one else deals with what we had to tonight. Absolutely do not shop here unless you want to be treated poorly!! This store has surely gone down hill!
