KatKin is cutting the fluff from the cat food industry and exposing the truth behind mass-produced cat food.

Hi Laura,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We're sorry to hear that your cat hasn’t taken to our food despite trying multiple flavours and serving methods. Cats are neophobic, which means they can be wary of new things, especially a new food. While some cats take to KatKin straight away, every cat is unique, and sometimes it can take a bit of time for them to adjust to a diet change.

Our team of Cat Experts have many tips and tricks that have helped them with their own cats and switching to fresh. I've requested your details so that we can reach out and learn more about your experience.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes,

I wanted to try KatKiExtremely Disappointed – Feels Like a Trap!n as a trial to…

I wanted to try KatKin as a trial to see if better-quality food would work for my cat — unfortunately, it was a total fail. My cat wouldn’t touch the food, and honestly, it has a very strange, unpleasant smell. I ended up having to throw it all away.

What made things worse is I didn’t realise that doing the trial automatically signed me up for a full subscription. I only found out when £54 was deducted from my account on 23 July, a charge made on 22 July. I cancelled the subscription immediately and emailed to stop the delivery.

I also called the next day (24 July at 10am), and the customer service rep told me it was already sent. Apparently, they sent a notification by email and SMS — but the email went to my junk folder, and the SMS looked just like a promotion. Who has time to dig through spam during a busy work week?

It feels really unfair to put all the responsibility on the customer like this. If the food was genuinely good, I would have subscribed — not because I was tricked into it! The short cancellation window and poor communication feel deliberately designed to catch people off guard.

To make matters worse, the food was delivered while I was away (again, during working hours — as if people don’t have jobs?), and by the time I returned, it had spoiled. So I’ve now wasted nearly £90 for something my cat didn’t eat at all.

Honestly, this has been one of the worst shopping experiences I’ve had. I will not be recommending KatKin to anyone. Be very careful before signing up — it’s not as “risk-free” as it sounds.

Hi Bing,

We're sorry to hear your cat didn't take to their fresh food and also that you were unaware we are a subscription.

As a subscription service, we prioritize cat wellbeing above all, and that means being transparent with cat parents too. We're all about flexibility and transparency at KatKin, making it clear on our website, in the sign up flow and via email, that we're a subscription service with rolling orders. We're sorry that you feel you were misled during the sign-up process.

We also understand that introducing a new food can be tricky, and while some cats take to our fresh food straight away, others might need a little time to adjust. With that said, we've requested your details so we can look into why there could have been an unpleasant smell with the trial box, as all our recipes do have a light, meaty smell.

Our delivery days can be flexible, as we offer delivery from Tuesday to Saturday. As long as the trays were cold to the touch, they’re safe to refreeze. All our fresh meat is gently cooked inside the trays, keeping out bacteria. Then our wool insulation keeps the recipes cool in the box for up to 48 hours from when they are packed. So cold recipes are good to go.

I hope we can help with this and look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

I am so disappointed with Katkin

I am so disappointed with Katkin, I attempted to cancel my subscription because 1. my cats don't eat it anymore, 2. I have now bought other food that they are eating, so I have spent my budgeted money on cat food this month and 3. I have now happily got my freezer drawers back, so I have filled them and have no room for this food. Then I had a notifiction from DPD that my order is on it's way, Katkin are trying to convince me that I did not cancel my membership, which is not true and I feel like they are gaslighting me because they didn't process my cancellation so now I am going to have a box of (not cheap) cat food that I can't use

Fraudsters - avoid like the plague

Total con. Signed up for a trial at £18, my credit card was charged £30. Complained and got a refund. Now, three weeks later they have taken another unauthorised £78 from my credit card for a subscription I did not sign up for. Fraudsters and thieves.

Edit: Katkin has now replied with empty platitudes about how they don't want customers to be caught off guard. I am not a customer. I was conned with the cost of the trial and have not taken out a subscription. They still have my money. Looks like I'll be taking legal action against them.

Dont waste you money - doesnt smell fresh

Cats hated it, turned up noses, walked away.
To say this is supposed to be fresh when opening the packets they dont smell fresh made my stomach turn.
Yes i have tried those sprinkles on to bribe them to try - no that doesnt work
Even the feral/stray cats I feed wont touch this.

Its cheaper & doesnt smell making my own. The freeze dried treats you can get much cheaper from supermarket.

Very disappointing - no money back offer either.
I wont be purchasing or recommending these products - dont waste your money

Hi Rachel,

Thank you so much for your review and for giving KatKin a go.

I'm so sorry to hear that our fresh food didn't smell that way; that definitely shouldn't be the case.

Our recipes should have a light, meaty smell to them and I suspect this may be why your cats haven't taken to their food.

This is why we have requested your details so we can troubleshoot further, and also find hopefully a resolution for you and your cats.

We look forward to speaking to you soon, and helping further!

I’ve been on their subscription for…

I’ve been on their subscription for more than a year now and decided to cancel for the following reasons:
1. The food is way overpriced for the quality. If you read the ingredients it’s mostly organs and no meat. My cat only eats this food if there’s no other option, and most often than not I have to throw half of it away. If there was actual meat in it I may have overlooked the other negative factors and continued my subscription but the price is appalling for the junk that’s inside it.
2. The subscription model is awful and the website is so tricky. It took me a while and several surprised deliveries (where they charged me £60-£90 each time) to figure out how to delay/cancel deliveries.
3. The packaging is bad and hard to open and very messy.
4. They have the audacity to charge £4-£5 for each delivery when they are already charging you about £60-£90 for the purchase. Delivery should be free for anything over £40-£50.
Here’s some positives:
1. The freeze dried salmon treats and the non clumping litter is good quality, the litter changes colour based on ph level which provides good health info. BUT it’s very very expensive. I paid over £60 for 4 packs of litter! You can get 5packs from other brands of similar litter for £30.
2. The one encounter I had with customer service was positive and they responded and resolved the issue quickly.

Hi Tara,

Thank you so much for your transparent feedback, we do appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

We're really sorry to see you go, and hope we can address some of the concerns you've raised.

We understand your concerns about organ meat, and we want to assure you that its inclusion is something we're very transparent about.

We include it because it's an incredibly nutrient-dense part of the animal that cats often love, and it's a fantastic source of essential fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and B vitamins.

When it comes to the amounts included, we use what's called the "mixing bowl principle." For example, in a recipe like Cluck (100% gently-cooked chicken thigh, liver, and heart, plus the KatKin Nutrient Mix), the ingredients are listed from most to least. This means organ meat doesn't form the bulk of the recipe.

I'm so sorry to hear you had difficulty with our website. We do appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as your feedback helps us continually improve. I've made sure to pass this on to the relevant team.

Please remember, our Cat Experts are always here to help with any account queries. You can reach us by email or phone 7 days a week.

Regarding our packaging, we need a hard seal to gently cook our food, which is why we recommend using scissors to open them.

A little tip that might help is to cut the trays while they're frozen for an easier cleanup!

We also wanted to touch on our delivery fee. Implementing a small fee of £2.99 wasn't a decision we took lightly. We worked hard to keep our prices as low as possible so we can continue delivering the freshest, healthiest food for all cats and support their health and happiness.

It's wonderful to hear you had a positive interaction with our Cat Expert team, and that our salmon Nibbles and Scoop Health have been a hit. We've also made sure to pass on your feedback regarding the pricing of our Scoop Health litter.

We've requested your details so we can support you further, and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

Hi Karen,

Thank you for taking the time to share what happened. We're so sorry to hear that your cat has been unwell 💔 I know how upsetting that must be for both of you, especially after just making the switch to our fresh recipe.

We’d really like to understand more about your cat’s experience and the digestive issues you've noticed, so we can better support you both. We've requested your details so we can reach out and talk more about your cat's transition to KatKin.

While many cats thrive on our fresh recipes, we understand that individual responses to a diet change can vary and it’s not always the right fit for every cat.

Our meals do naturally contain some crude fibre from the fresh meat we use, but the overall fibre content is low and not considered high-fibre. While fibre isn’t an essential nutrient for cats, some can be more fibre-sensitive and may benefit from additional fibre in their diet.

Thanks again for reaching out - we're looking forward to chatting more, and we’re wishing your cat a speedy and smooth recovery.

misgendered and treated horribly by your customer service team!

Extremely disappointed with KatKin’s customer service. I was misgendered during my interaction being told “You don't sound like a Mark’— something that should never happen in 2025 from a company claiming to care about its customers. On top of that, the tone from the team was rude, dismissive, and unhelpful when I raised a simple request about fast-tracking a refund. I expected so much better from a brand that promotes itself as premium and customer-focused. Sadly, this experience has left me feeling disrespected and let down. I won’t be returning.

On top of this, upon returning of my own accord the unwanted parcel - I had to cover this with a charge of £12. They followed up by then saying it’s a possibility I’m not going to receive my refund? Despite the return? And despite being told by two seperate customer service assistants I will be entitled to a full refund upon returning.

Appalling- please try elsewhere there are many other high quality, premium brands with much better customer service. I wish I could escalate this- misgendering in 2025 is extremely concerning.

Hi Mark,

Thank you again for your feedback and for taking the time to speak with me earlier today, I really appreciated the chance to speak with you directly.

I’m really sorry again for the experience you had with our team. I completely understand how important it is to feel respected and listened to, and I’m sorry that wasn’t your experience this time.

As we discussed, part of the confusion stemmed from multiple accounts set up under different names and using the same contact details. In line with GDPR regulations, we need to ask certain verification questions to protect our customers’ personal information. However, I truly appreciate how this came across, and I wanted to reiterate my sincere apologies that we were impersonal or presumptive in any way - particularly related to the gender issue you raised.

As confirmed during our call, your refund has now been processed. I also appreciate your understanding that refunds can only be issued once we’ve received returned items, and that tracking this was more complex in this case due to the account history.

Your feedback has been taken seriously, and as you know I’m following up with the team to ensure we handle situations like this with greater clarity and care moving forward. If there’s anything else you need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at meow@katkin.com.

Warm wishes,

Our Cat Needed Emergency Care After Eating KatKin

After being encouraged by KatKin's marketing claims, I transitioned my cat onto this food which is described as suitable for cats with sensitive stomachs. It is promoted as supporting digestion and helping with conditions such as IBD, diarrhoea, and colitis. Based on these assurances, I believed KatKin would be a good dietary fit.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. Two weeks after fully transitioning to the food, my cat began vomiting, had diarrhoea and showed signs of extreme discomfort when trying to pass a stool. I had to take him to the vet urgently, where he was diagnosed with severe constipation and it was confirmed this was down to the change in food. Our cat required an enema, an overnight stay and the total bill came to nearly £1,900. The experience was incredibly distressing for both our cat and our family.

Given the stark contrast between KatKin’s marketing and our actual experience, I feel strongly that I was misled. While I understand that individual responses can vary, KatKin's advertising specifically targets cats with digestive issues—implying the food is not only safe, but beneficial, for these cases. In our situation, it caused serious harm instead.

I shared the vet correspondence with KatKin and while they were responsive and expressed concern, they stated they would not revise their marketing materials. So if your cat has a sensitive stomach or any digestive issues whatsoever, I would avoid this food at all costs.

Hi Carey,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry for everything you and Hunter have been through. We understand how upsetting and stressful this must have been, and our hearts go out to you both.

We really appreciate you sharing the details from your vet and taking the time to speak with us directly. While our food is carefully formulated to support cats with a range of health conditions, including digestive issues like IBD, colitis, and sensitive stomachs, we know that every cat is unique, and sometimes even the best-intentioned changes don’t go as hoped.

From everything you’ve told us, it’s clear that Hunter has particularly complex dietary needs. We completely understand how important it is to find a food that works just right for him. We’re genuinely sorry that KatKin wasn’t the right fit, and we hope he’s now feeling more comfortable and on the mend with a diet that suits him better.

If there’s ever anything more we can do to support you and Hunter, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Unsubstantiated Drivel ....

Oh dear this is a disaster isn't it. I was emailed a link today to see how they batch test the food at Katkin for bacteria. When you click on each pathogen that they test for it takes you to a Wikipedia page to describe what each pathogen is .....How very unprofessional can you get. Wikipedia is not written by experts , it can be edited by anyone, making it irrelevant and certainly NOT what a company should be directing customers to. Katkin supposedly have a veterinary team , surely one of their "Vets" could have written something for their website - from a qualified professional. Perhaps I will go into Wikipedia and edit it myself , being a medical professional

This food is absolutely SH*T , literally and vastly over priced.

This food made two of my cats ill. I have owned animals all of my life and I am not a novice when it comes to food or indeed the care of animals. Katkin customer service patronise and try and worm their way out not taking responsibility.
I would NOT feed this to your animals unless you want them to be ill. It does not matter which recipe all of them make the cats have diahorrea and vomiting. Feed this if you want a large vet bill.
Having been a cat breeder for over twenty years , I can honestly say this is just awful food, packaging and customer service. You could cook your own cat food for half the price that Katkin shell this stuff out at and you would know it is safe for your cats. A cats diet needs to be balanced so always do your research.

Hi Di,

We’re so sorry to hear your cats have been unwell. That must be incredibly upsetting, and we completely understand how worrying it is when you're doing everything you can to care for them.

We want to reassure you that every batch of food we produce is microbiologically tested before it leaves our kitchen, with full traceability across every ingredient and recipe.

We’re also proud to be the only fresh cat food company that shares these test results directly with customers through their account portal. Our most recent double AA BRC rating reflects the high food safety and quality standards we hold ourselves to every day.

There can be many reasons why cats experience vomiting or diarrhoea, including infections, parasites, or dietary and environmental changes. And while it’s highly unlikely that KatKin was the cause, we take concerns like this seriously and will always carry out a full investigation when we have the right information.

As we've mentioned in our emails, we really do want to help get to the bottom of this. But we’ve not yet received the information we need, including any notes or reports from your vet.

We’re here and ready to help as soon as you’re able to share more.

In the meantime, we truly hope your cats are feeling better soon.

Deceitful subscription model

I was going to do a trial but nowhere in the onboarding journey did I see i was automatically subscribed. This is deceitful and maybe even illegal. If it does disclose this its well hidden to fool people. Not impressed. The ux is designed so that there is a testimonial screen before the subscription details and FAQs and there are 2 CTAs that bypass them. So people may go straight to order without scrolling down. It's leverageing behavioural science to hoodwink people. So they will get the 65 gpb order in mail without realising it. Chances are they won't bother trying to get refund but go straight to cancellation page to stop further deliveries. So it's a good way to ensure you get consistent orders but not good for building trust and transparency.

Horrible experience from your sales…

Horrible experience from your sales pitch team member at London bridge Station. Thinking about it it was probably a blessing in disguise as its made me want to avoid your company at all costs ! You know who you are giving secret looks to your other sales rep. Wheel me in with all these wonderful free sachets which you can’t have,, demand to see all photos of your cat/cats watch while you scroll through your phone (which he did even when not of cats) like wouldn’t let me stop had to show him pic after pic of my cat! Told him I’m in a rush can I take a sample . No was the answer . I knew at this point there will be a catch .. never told the charge after first month will be 60£ ! I found him so passive aggressive and rude not to mention patronising. Also did the “put on pressure bit” when I said I’ll pass by again later after appointment then. I could see right through him at this point .Too late “we’re going in a minute”. Like being really pushy, aggressively pushy. Hour later still there (which I knew would be the case) . Liar as well.

Sick cat

Today I woke up to find a pile of sick and a pile of bile. My cat has been hiding and seems exhausted , he wouldn’t eat a small amount of boiled chicken breast but luckily drunk some water. I think he must have had food poisoning from katkin. He’s an indoor cat, the only thing changed has been his food. I threw the rest of it out , and having to monitor him through the night (as advised by the vet) be very careful with this food. Such a shame because I really thought this was a quality brand but from a bit of deeper research I can see I am not the only person who has had a sick cat from the food.

Hi Phillip,

We're really sorry to hear that Toby hasn't been feeling well lately. We totally understand how worrying it can be when our cats are under the weather. You're absolutely right to trust your instincts and take action quickly, especially by consulting your vet for advice.

Since Toby has only recently switched to our fresh recipes, we wanted to reassure you that it can be normal for some cats to experience digestive upset when transitioning to a new diet. These symptoms are often temporary, usually lasting around 24-48 hours depending on the individual cat.

We’d love to learn more about your and Toby's experience, so we’ll also be reaching out to you directly to discuss this in more detail. This way, we can chat further and offer some support for both of you.

We also want to reassure you that food safety is something we take very seriously at KatKin. Every batch of food is tested before it leaves our kitchen, going above industry requirements, and we’re proud to hold a double AA rating from our most recent BRC audit. We’re also the only brand to make these test results available to customers directly through their account portal.

We hope Toby has a swift recovery, and we look forward to speaking with you so we can support you both as much as we can.

Hi Richard

Although we don't offer meal plans smaller than 14 trays, we'd be more than happy to discuss options that would suit you and your cat best.

If any cat food company sells you a sample smaller than two weeks, they aren't interested in your cat’s needs. They just want your money. Here's why:
Cats need up to two weeks to switch to a new food. They need to get to know the smell, the taste, the look. That takes time.
A smaller sample of a few days won't let them learn. You'll be stuck in a cycle of buying constant samples of new foods, but your cat will never adapt for long. You've got to stick it out for two weeks to stop the cycle.

That’s why we have a 14-day trial box. Two weeks gives cats the best chance at kicking their kibble habits and getting a taste for the best food for them – fresh, 100% gently-cooked meat.

We've requested your contact details so we can discuss this further.

Smells, looks and feels cheap

I did the trial discount box thing which wasn't really even that cheap, 25 quid for 2 weeks.

Honestly this seems to just be cheap supermarket good packaged in a different way. Smells, Looks, feels the exact same and my cat hates it.

You offer the feedback and they just fob you off

Seems like they're trying to remove my review which probably explains why there's not that many bad ones as they just flag them for removal*

I'd like to share a bit about what makes KatKin unique. We're committed to providing fresh, human-quality cat food made with 100% real meat, prepared in our own UK kitchen. Unlike many supermarket foods, we don't use fillers, by-products, or artificial additives, which are common in highly processed dry kibble and even some wet foods.

Our recipes are formulated by veterinary nutritionists to ensure they're complete and balanced for your cat's health. The texture and appearance of fresh food can sometimes differ from highly processed alternatives, which might be what you're noticing.

Ultimately, we want both you and your cat to be happy. We understand that every cat is different, and finding the right food can be a journey.

To make things right, I'd like to get in touch which is why we've requested your contact details.

Thank you again for your honest review. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

UPDATE: We're so sorry for any confusion caused, we requested your contact details so we could get in touch to offer support. We have not flagged your review for removal. Looking forward to speaking soon, and getting this sorted for you!

Best,

Scammed by sales person. Hard to cancel

Signed up to what I thought was a one off trial at a sales stand. It wasn’t it was a full commitment. There is no “cancel” subscription in the website. I reached out to them and they refused to refund saying that I should have realised that I had signed up to a full subscription service. Beware. Bella and Duke however is the opposite and a much more trusting company.

Hi Tim and Ella,

Thank you for your candid feedback and for taking the time to share your experience with us.

I'm so sorry for the frustration and inconvenience caused.
It's clear that the explanation of our subscription service at the point of sign-up was not as clear as it should have been, and for that, I am truly sorry.

While I understand you may have already made your decision, we've requested your contact details as we'd love to make things right.

We value all feedback, especially critical feedback like yours, as it helps us identify areas where we need to improve. We're actively reviewing our sign-up processes and sales training to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.

Thank you once again for bringing this to our attention. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Best,

Hi Rebecca,

We're truly sorry to hear your cat isn't eating our food and that you've had a frustrating experience with your recent deliveries. That's certainly not the experience we want for our customers.

We understand you've been in touch, and we're sorry for any miscommunication regarding your cancellation requests and the second delivery. While our policy is to guarantee changes requested before the cut-off time at least three days before delivery, we want to help resolve this. We've requested your contact details for this reason.

We still encourage you to check out our switching tips \[link here:https://katkin.elevio.help/en/articles/27\] as many cats can take time to adjust. If that's not feasible, and you're unable to keep the food, we'd be incredibly grateful if you could donate it to a local animal shelter or another Cat Parent.Remember, our meals can stay frozen for up to 9 months if you'd like to take a short break and try again in the future.

Thank you for giving KatKin a try. We appreciate your feedback as we strive to improve as a small business.

My box of katkin arrived today with no ice pack and the food was already defrosted. That’s not at all what you promised.

Hi Cathryn,

It’s Tom from the Ops team here. I’m really sorry to hear about your first experience with us. I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to receive your order without ice packs. It’s absolutely not the standard we hold ourselves to.

I’ve just dropped you an email, and I know you’ve already spoken with one of our Cat Experts about your refund and your replacement that is now on the way. I just wanted to follow up here too to reassure you we’re taking this seriously and I’m personally working with our fulfilment team to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
Really sorry again for the trouble, and we hope your cats get to enjoy their recipes very soon.
