Switched to Uber after poor experience and rude staffl
Used KingKabs for years with minimal issues, but this experience was unacceptable.
I searched “KingKabs” in the app as usual. The only option that came up was a Foregate address labelled as KingKabs. This did not raise concern at the time because historically, when searching “KingKabs”, the main Bridge Street office has always been the only option shown. There was nothing to indicate this was a different site, and “Abbey Taxis” was never mentioned or made clear at any point, nor was importantly the main and original Bridge Street office offered as an alternative at all.
My driver marked themselves as arrived but was nowhere to be seen and did not answer my call. When I asked for help, I was told to cancel the booking (costing me £5) as it had supposedly been allocated to Abbey Taxis.
I then rebooked correctly to Bridge Street, only to be told by staff, who were literally facing away from me and clearly uninterested, that even when my prepaid taxi arrived they would prioritise the queue and that I should cancel again and walk elsewhere to book.
Rude, dismissive, and unprofessional service. After years of using them, I left and used Uber instead. Management needs to address both the booking system and staff conduct.
They cancelled my taxi and refused to refund me
They decide to turn up, then cancel the taxi "at my request" despite me being on the door step, and drive off. Paid in advance with my card. Had to order another taxi, resulting in my son being late for work. They refused a refund. Absolute con artists. It wouldnt have happened if I chose pay by cash. Easy way for them to make money out of you. AVOID! Not the first time ive had issues with them. Will be the last though because I wont be using them again.

Cancelled taxis and ordered Uber on line arrived in 6 minutes - valuable lesson learned never using Kingjab again.

Booked a wheelchair taxi 3 weeks prior for Christmas Day.
Arrived on time but not a wheelchair taxi. Didn't have one to replace it.
No empathy or apology from the office.
Avoid this company. The stress and upset on Christmas day when my mother was faced with the possibility of not seeing dad at his care home was unbelievable. Thankfully we managed to sort it but in no way thanks to kingkabs who couldn't have cared any less if they tried.

We booked a taxi with KingKabs Chester on 4th August 2025 — six weeks in advance — for a journey to Manchester Airport on 16th September at 12pm. We arranged both the outward and return journeys and felt confident after confirming everything several times over the phone. We were quoted £97 each way. I paid the return fare online in advance and was told to pay the driver cash for the outward journey.
The night before our trip, I called to reconfirm the booking. At first, they couldn’t find it due to a new system being installed, but after checking their old system, they located our booking and confirmed everything was fine.
Still, something didn’t feel right, so I called again at 10am the next morning to double-check that a minibus would be collecting us all at 12pm. Once again, they couldn’t find the booking until I reminded them to check the old system. Eventually, they found it and confirmed the details — six adults (two of whom are in their 80s), a toddler, a six-month-old baby, several suitcases, and a pram — and reassured me that a taxi would arrive at 12pm.
Unfortunately, 12pm came and went — and no taxi arrived. When I rang again, they said our booking wasn’t showing at all. I was passed from person to person, as the company is now owned by a London-based group that manages all Chester private hire firms. They told me to ring the Chester office directly, which I did, but got no answer. When I called back, understandably frustrated, I was told my booking might be cancelled altogether. They eventually admitted that no taxi had been dispatched and that there were no minibuses available.
After insisting they find a solution, they told me they had located a driver who would arrive within 15 minutes — only to call back again to say that had been cancelled too, as the vehicle was only a seven-seater. At this point, I said, “I don’t care how you get us there — just send multiple cars if needed.” But they had no available vehicles at all.
Eventually, and luckily for us, a driver had just signed on with an 8-seater minibus and could get to us by 12:45pm. However, the trip would now cost £120 instead of £97, and we had no choice but to accept due to the urgency.
Our driver Stuart was absolutely superb — polite, professional, and clearly not to blame for the chaos. He quickly loaded all our luggage and got us to the airport as fast as he could. Thanks to him, we made it — but the incompetence of KingKabs caused huge stress and meant we had to rush through check-in and security.
We had also pre-booked and paid for the Escape Lounge to enjoy a relaxed start to our holiday, but this was completely wasted. By the time we reached the lounge, we barely had time to grab a quick drink before heading straight to the gate — not easy with elderly relatives and a toddler in tow. What should have been a calm start to our family holiday turned into a stressful scramble.
Overall, it seems there’s little point in pre-booking with KingKabs, as they clearly don’t allocate a driver in advance — a shocking way to run a business. The lack of organisation and communication was appalling and deeply disappointing.
I will never use this company again.
We have used them before for local trips and have been let down on several occasions, but decided to give them another chance because they’re the biggest fleet in Chester. We assumed that pre-booking six weeks in advance for an airport transfer would guarantee reliability. How wrong we were.
KingKabs are now owned by CityFleet Networks Limited, part of the larger Comfort DelGro Group, who also own Abbey Taxis in Chester. If this is how they operate, I fear they’ll be responsible for their own downfall. When customers can’t rely on the basics — like showing up — business will inevitably suffer.
In future, I’ll book taxis directly with independent drivers rather than through any private hire firm in Chester, as they’re all under the same ownership now anyway.
In summary:
➡️ Unreliable, disorganised, and stressful. Fine for short, local, low-stakes trips — but for anything important (especially airport transfers), avoid them completely and book directly with trusted local drivers or black cabs instead.

Great local taxi service !
Friends and I stayed at Premier Inn by train station. As one of our friends needs a walking stick we used this taxi firm on 4 occasions into the centre and back to hotel. Each driver super friendly, very courteous and knowledgeable to help us! I’d recommend to anyone. 5 Stars. I would add that Premier Inn did recommend Kings Cabs.

Taxi drivers should not be allowed to cancel rides after already accepting. Taxi was 6m away then lazy driver cancelled. We must eradicate the gig economy from this country as it's harmful to both employees and customers

"Your driver is 4m away" then suddenly the driver cancelled because too lazy for morning traffic. Why are they allowed to do this? They never used to be! Then your driver is 6 minutes away. The problem is with a driver supposedly on the way I can't arrange alternative transport. You can wait 30m for a taxi sometimes and not know if a taxi is around the corner or if they'll be the 5th cancellation of the day. It's not like I live in some hard to get to place. It's really not hard. The traffic happens every morning, if your drivers are so upset by it then maybe they shouldn't be taxi drivers!

Kings cab Marshal near Teaco Fordsham street chester city center sucks. The person seems old and habitual rude talker and talks non sense. First he asked me where I need to go? I said Hoole he said he doesnt know which place is it?mThen why ask? Book the cab and let driver deal with us. This has happened two three times. Other times he ask do we have cab booked or he needs to book in rude manner. The man does not understand the way he speaks not all feel it as audible and understandable. I ask your company to replace the man from such public service post. He is not fit to deal with public. No one cares about his attitude and non sense. Hope not to see the non sense creator again. Felt I was held ransom by kingkabs. Quoting 30 to return phone I agreed, when called to enquire where driver was; advised he was now on WIRRAL AND COST WOULD BE 58 pounds to return.
Waited 4 hours multiple calls to kingkabs , then told driver has gone home.
Call the next morning and advised he is at home, advised to call back after 1pm.
Advised that driver is self employed and has no responsibility to return phone I dropped.

If it was possible to put zero stars then I would ! Three times I have booked a taxi for my husband's hospital appointment and 3 times it has not turned up ! The taxis are always filthy and drivers don't know the meaning of being courteous. As of today I am removing the app from my phone. Disgusting service and just getting worse.

Wow, what a firm. Could not believe it they are on cloud 9. I told them my wife could not walk; we need a taxi to collect us. THEY SAID YOU WILL HAVE TO WALK ROUND TO THE OFFICE. SPOKE TO SOME ONE WE DONT PICK UP FROM THERE WHAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND MISSES CANT WALK???? So because of yourself, you lost a good customer. So ordered a UBER and they came straight away. 5 🌟 for uber ordered it 2 min. no complaints turned up, got in, and they took us home. Spoke to the fella, who spoke good English for a Turkish lad. Spoke in detail; he said king kabs are very slow now and there are sacking people and getting rid of drives that work for Uber, and people need to work and not sit for hours because the door staff on a weekend are slow and the office staff are ungrateful. And so I asked why he had 4 phones; he said one for ABC, one for Uber, one for King Kabs, and one for our own company. A very nice gentleman and a very nice car clean took his number. Will be passing a lot of work his way. Thank you so much. Kingkab learns from this, and I will make sure I pass my work to the driver and not to Kingkabs. Also, now I see why people in Chester use Uber more; we gave the driver a £10 tip. I hope other drivers read this and learn from it
Quoted £30 in app charged £55
Ordered a taxi using the app with our start and destination point. Given the mileage and cost of fuel would then be known to King Kabs you would expect the estimated price to be accurate. We were quoted £30 and charged £55. I let the driver know I would be making a complaint and took a picture of his meter. I emailed King Kabs 5 days ago and have not heard anything from them. Not sure if this is cynical dealing due to assuming clients have been drinking. Have used King Kabs for decades very disappointing.
