Deceptive Marketing and High Pressure Tactics

Update - Vendor has agreed to allow me to send the camera back for full refund. They are agreeing to pay for return shipping costs, which is good. This is satisfactory resolution of the below issue.

I purchase a Nikon J1 camera from Primotronix. Granted, the price was good and shipping was fast. However, big problem is that they advertised the camera to be brand new. I even called to confirm the camera is new and not refurbished and the sales rep confirmed. When camera arrived, it was in an almost unmarked white box (not your typical decorated, resale box). I called customer service and they again said that this is a new product. I called Nikon, gave them my serial number and was told the camera was a refurbished unit with a reduced warranty.

The many negative reviews of this company clearly indicate that they do not operate honestly. It seems it's either slow shipping, bait and switch, unnecessary upsells, or false advertising. What makes the matter worse is that they called me before the product shipped and asked me to write a positive review of them in exchange for a free card reader. I didn't realize what they were trying to do at the time. They in essence wanted to pad their vendor rating before the product arrived and the customer has a chance to be disappointed. Therefore, I believe a lot of the positive reviews that are online are not voluntary reviews.

Be very careful when dealing with this organization. Too many people have been left disappointed. Spend a little more and go with a reputable reseller.

SLOW!!

While I believe I got a new camera for a good price, I found the service to be slow and not especially friendly. The gentleman I spoke to, while he was not outright rude, seemed annoyed that I dare bother him, and also that he couldn't get me to bite on accessories that I made clear I did not need. He did get me to buy the "US" version as the cheaper "import" was not in stock, despite the website advertising "order now". The real downside was how long it took. I placed the order online on a Saturday, and Monday called to see when I could expect my camera since I paid the $70 for overnight shipping. I was told that it would take a couple days to process and I should expect it by that Thursday or Friday. As of this past Sunday, no camera, I call again and was told that it had shipped and that I should expect an email with a tracking number and should have my camera by Wednesday. I finally received tracking information Monday evening, and received that package today (Thursday). Hardly overnight. I may have had a much better experience than some of the nightmare reviews I've read, but rest assured I will not deal with this company ever again.

Awful, scam company- DO NOT BUY!

I fell prey to the same scam. Website said 7-9 business days. Someone called trying to up-sell a bunch of other items, then said the camera wouldn't ship for 3 months! Customer service rep - [name] - was extremely rude and cut me off numerous times. When I asked to speak to his boss, he said he didn't know his name. This is a sham company- order elsewhere. Ill be reporting to the BBB.

By the way- the company is getting rid of bad reviews by claiming they didnt buy!!! Check out the BBB complaints, reseller ratings, and yelp to see dozens of other bad reviews

A very untrustworthy company that doesn't care about their customers, only about getting their money.

Update: In order to get any help from Primotronix I was told I needed to change my rating to a 3 star first!

I ordered a New Nikon D5100 kit and was sent a refurbished kit. Primotronix is selling refurbished products to customers, yet telling them they are purchasing new products. The customer has no way to check the authenticity of the product until they begin having problems with the product and send it into the manufacturer for repair. This is clearly misrepresenting the products they are selling. They list a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their website but do not stand by this guarantee. Primotronix is claiming the original manufacturer is lying about the product being refurbished, even though the manufacturer checked the serial numbers in their database. How can one trust this company? I do not trust them to exchange my refurbished products for new products I actually ordered and, indeed, send me "new" products and not refurbished again. Primotronix will not refund my order and claims it is beyond their refund time frame. Please explain how one is to know they were sent the incorrect product until it is sent into the manufacturer to check the serial numbers.
Customer service is atrocious. I have never felt so taken advantage of nor been treated so rudely by a "customer service rep". They hung up on me numerous times and claimed I was lying to them on many occasions. I asked to speak to a manager several times and one never seemed to be available. I seemed to always be routed back to "Alex" who stated that "No one will help you with this issue".
Primotronix is a highly unethical business that is only operating to scam its customers.

Don't call them if you want to buy something from them. Not sure how they are just with online purchase.

I ended up making a mistake and calling them and ended up making one my largest retail mistakes of my life. Granted in the grand scheme it wasn't a ton of money but I probably got talked into spending $300 more than if I would have just stuck with who I usually buy my electronics from.

Basically my mistake was I wasn't sitting at a desk truly doing the math of what the seller's "package deal" was promising when I was on the phone with them but when I got the equipment and did the breakdown ugghhh(not by the Invoice, it had no breakdown they just stuck a a single price for all the equipment...didn't break down of any pieces/per price). So I got stuck with a set of lens filters that I could buy elsewhere for $11 they charged $69. And then they OUT RIGHT LIED about the battery life of the OEM provided battery so I got an extra battery that I believe they charged me $125 for probably worth $20. Then they had a "warranty" special: Which turned out to be untrue also. And the list continues...After receiving everything I almost returned it all to notice the have a 20% restocking fee. Well That pretty much negates me worrying about how much extra I paid. So at the end of the day I chocked it up as a learning experience...you need one of those every once in a while.

I don't know how they are with just ordering off their website, but I recommend if you feel you need to call just go else where. (I was wondering why they had 2 exact products that were $150 differently priced)

2nd Update, UPDATE, SELLER CALLED AND PROMISED TO CORRECT. Unethical Business Practice. Up Sell Scam

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPANY CALL THE SALES PERSON YOU DEALT WITH AND DEAL DIRECT. DO NOT FILE COMPLAINT UNTIL YOU TALK TO YOUR SPECIFIC SALES PERSON. THEY SEEM TO RESOLVE QUICKLY WITH TELEPHONE CALL.

Second update. Seller did deliver the battery and a free card reader and a free 32 GB chip to make me happy. The battery is not a 9 hour battery but probably the best the industry has to offer. It lasted one hour on video setting which is double the factory battery. The 32 GB chip performs flawlessly. It is not error free. THe card reader is pretty nifty. So for my extra $100 bucks I did not get the battery promised but did get a double strength battery, a regular battery, a four GB chip and a 32 GB chip, a card reader, a lens filter and stupid table top tripod. It was not a good deal. But it was the deal. My problem is that seller never did invoice any of the items. It was listed as a package deal. I would guess I received some 60$ of goods for $100 but had several months of hassle after filing a discover card complaint. In hind sight, I would just call the specific salesman I dealt with and continue to hassle him. That is how you resolve with this seller, go to the guy who sold you the stuff and they seem to resolve the problem immediately.

FIRST UPDATE, Seller, just 2 days after posting this review called and promised my long lost battery and a free 32 GB memory card plus reader. If they come through I must change my rating. This is after a 3 month complaint through Discover Card that did nothing. Seller blamed the problem on customer service who don't understand the situation. I am moving to 2 starts and upon receipt of battery will move up again depending on quality of battery.

ORIGINAL REVIEW, I bought a camera. Got a call on Sunday convincing me to buy a 9 hour battery for $100. No battery came with order. Seller did not invoice battery but instead listed as package deal. I complained and company then sent cheap off brand battery , not Nikon as promised. The battery was not as good as the original Nikon battery. Just another 30 minute battery. Repeatedly complained to no avail. Transferred all over the place when calling. Emails not answered. Do no do business with this company. See other internet reviews. PS, There is no such thing as a 9 hour battery.

Beware! Deceptive company!

I ordered a Nikon D7000 from the Primotronix website soon after Memorial Day. I was happy because it was the cheapest new camera I could find (even cheaper than some refurbished ones), and it said free shipping. The next day I received a call from them confirming my order, but the price was different than on the website. I was told there is a $50 "shipping insurance fee". The website had said nothing about this. RED FLAG - I should have canceled my order right then! They proceeded to talk me into adding an extra battery for "only" $100 more. (If I would have done my homework, I would have known that a Nikon made one sells elsewhere for only $50) I was going to buy an extra battery any way, but specifically asked to make sure it was Nikon made. They assured me it was.
A few days later my camera came. Everything was great except for the extra battery. Sure enough, it was NOT Nikon made. When I called to see if I could return just the battery, they told me I had bought a kit, and would have to return everything. I had understood I was only adding an extra battery, not buying a different kit. After every objection I made, the guy just kept repeating the same thing, so I finally gave up.
I feel I have been lied to and cheated out of a good price, but after reading other reviews on Primotronics, I'm thankful it wasn't worse. I am very happy with my camera thanks to Nikon, NOT Primotronics.
In summary:
-Their website is deceptive
-Their sales reps are dishonest
If you want to buy a good camera for a discount price, buy a refurbished one from a more reliable seller. At least you'll know exactly what you're getting, and what price you'll be paying.

Scammed & overcharged! this is a BAD company!

Scammed & overcharged! this is a BAD company!
I bought a cyber- shot camera DSC- HX20V for $269.99 from primotronix.com on 5/29/13. A few days later when I had expected the camera to be delivered, I received a call from a sales rep trying to sell me an Extended sony battery for 49.99. I said I already had the same camera ( I was purchasing a 2nd for my daughter) and the regular battery works fine. He said I must have bought an extended one since the standard only works for 30 minutes. I was hesitant so he said the special was 2 batteries for 49.99.I asked if all products were brand new in original packages and Sony products.he confirmed they were. So I said I would get the batteries. I received the box on 6/6/13. I was charged 338.99 which was 24.10 more then he quoted. The camera was NOT in original factory box. There was No warranty. One battery was Not Sony and did not look like the one advertised online. The 2nd battery was Sony but not in any package nor were the accessories packaged. They were put in a white nondescript box. There is a SKD number on the bottom of the camera that is greyed out with a marker. I now wonder if this company not only sells used equipment posing as new but maybe they are selling illegal items. Their website is misleading. They have various business hours depending on where you look. I have not been able to get in touch with them by phone. They owe me money, an explanation and a warranty by Sony. I would rather just return this entire order as I do not think they are legal but I would never trust that they would give me a credit to my credit card.

Worst internet purchase of my life.

I can finally say I've had the worst internet purchase of my life. Ordered a camcorder from primotronix because they were cheaper than the rest - 30 DAYS LATER, about 10 phone calls and 10 emails with customer service saying the item will be shipped "within 48 hours", I finally get my camera.... only, the power adapter is obviously made for another country. I placed my order on 5/14 and on 5/22 someone called me to try to upsell, which irritated me and then they said they'd process the order. So not sure what they were doing between that? And my camera was shipped from Amazon, with the order date of 6/11 even though I did not order through amazon. Very interesting.

Bait and switch SCAM COMPANY

READ THEIR BBB REVIEW! "F" RATING!!! MANY COMPLAINTS FILED!!

This is a terrible company. They "bait and switched" me and sent an old, outdated lens instead of the lens I ordered. They charged my credit card a higher charge than advertised, and they did not ship all items included in my package. Even after multiple attempts to get the correct items, NOTHING was made right! No lens, no completion of the items included in the package, and no correction of price!! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!! I CANNOT WARN STRONGLY ENOUGH AGAINST THIS COMPANY!! Buy ELSEWHERE!!

Update: I have contacted the TX ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE and the Better Business Bureau. Investigations are currently underway. I encourage anyone scammed by this company to do the same. WE THE PEOPLE can put this SCAM company out of business forever!!

Buyer Beware!

I ordered a Canon Rebel T2i on a Sunday and Monday I received a call for a sales rep. They stated that the model had been discontinued and offered to "upgrade" me to the newer model for free. Then they proceeded to try to sell me the 5 hour battery, which I declined and then was told they would throw it in for free. My order that I initially had purchased online went from $450 to $570 when I was told the upgrades would be free! I called the next day to complain about their "bait and switch tactics" . They offered to sell me a lens that I was interested in for less then cost at $70 but what about the $100+ they already overcharged me?!? Then I look online and the had charged the lens twice! I decided against the whole purchase and called back to cancel. I was then told that a refund would take 10-14 days! How is that even possible? This company is a scammer!

Stay away, UPSELL, additional hidden fees

I placed an order with them for a Nikon camera and lenses over the Memorial Day Sale that they were having. My total order was for 1350 with FREE shipping. I got a call from a sales rep, very slick talking that just kept saying 'OK" and kept upgrading my order by saying "I will throw and extended battery, extended warranty, tripods in for you" He ended with "I will send the products out today, 1750 total ok, bye" He hung up. How did the price go up $400 !!! I called back waited for 25 minutes and another slick salesman told me about a 6-7% up-charge for S/H. I told him what the other guy did, but he was the same, just kept saying ok and promising a bunch of extra items that I had no desire to buy.

I called my bank and put a stop to the charge. STAY AWAY, they are using at least 3 different websites that go to the same call center.
