It's been 7 years since I closed this dog shit account at this dog shit bank. Tred to deposit a paycheck and was told "We're not a bank." Despite the sign out front saying otherwise. Unbelievable. Don't waste your time here.

They have limitations on stop payments

I opened a chequing account with this bank maybe 5 months ago. Today I called to put a stop payment on an authorized payment that is supposed to be coming out bi-weekly and they told me they can't do it because the car loan is with them. I am taking my business to a credit union tomorrow.

Stay Away From Scotiabank...They will rip you off!

I've had a Line of Credit account with Scotiabank since 2005. The interest is prime + .25 or something like that.

I've never had a problem with this Line of Credit when I've had a balance until 2025.

Twice this year, my monthly interest charge was doubled for no reason. The Branch Manager didn't know why, the call centre rep didn't know why and one nasty woman named Heather in the Complaints department didn't know why.

But she did say 'we review accounts from time to time and the interest rate can change due to things like credit reports and other factors.'

It is illegal for any bank or organization to do a credit check on you without permission from you. Therefore, Heather has admitted that Scotiabank engages in illegal practices if its true they randomly review accounts and pull credit reports without a customer authorizing for that to happen. Which it didn't get from me.

Stay away from this trailer park trash of a bank. You will be far more satisfied at the other big banks that do not engage in this kind of illegal activity.

Zero customer service

Zero customer service. I have a credit score over 800 and can’t get a credit card or overdraft through them. I want to pay off my auto loan but they block the account number and refuse to give it to me so I can’t pay it off. No customer service available. I’m leaving this bank after 15 years.

Scotia bank greed or incompetence to use internal transfer 4-5 days

Banking, Government, and AI Concerns
Bank Advertising vs. Service

Banks, like Scotiabank, spend roughly $62–72 million USD annually on digital advertising alone.

Much of this money goes to promoting how “good” their service is, but customer experience is often poor.
Investing these funds in improving actual services could increase revenue, customer satisfaction, and referrals.
Government & Corporate Policy
Government oversight should consider electronic fees for AI and offshore phone services:
$0.15 per AI call
$1.50 per outside/offshore call
These practices hurt local employment and the economy.
Bank Fees & Transparency
NSF fees should be capped at $7.50 (historically $5.00 from 1990–2006).
Automated systems and internal banking procedures (e.g., internal transfers taking 3–5 days) are increasing profits for banks while frustrating customers.
Wasted Resources
Paper flyers and printed promotions are wasting trees and mostly discarded.
AI and computer system crashes are increasing risks for businesses and society, potentially leading to larger-scale economic issues in the next 10 years.
Customer Service & Humanity
Good service that empowers people can create word-of-mouth growth.
Current delays in services (like internal transfers) reflect greed and inefficiency, undermining customer trust.
Banks should prioritize human-centered service, not just profit and bonuses.
Consumers & AI Reminder
Computers and AI are not consumers.
When people cannot make a living, they are not consumers either, which threatens the economy and business sustainability.
Urgency
The combination of poor internal processes, excessive advertising, and overreliance on AI can jeopardize economic stability.
It is time for diplomacy, ethical governance, and service-focused banking instead of greed-driven practices.

Scotiabank are theives

Bunch of theiving goofs run this bank. I ran into trouble with jobs for a bit and credit cards owning more then usual and was just starting to get it sorted out made a payment on my cards finally off last paycheque. These idiots decide now they can monitor my accounts and take more money out then just the payment I made. Leaving me short for fuel, food, cat food, cat litter, to get to work which hey dickheads kind of help pay your bill i owe you on. I now drive tow truck and during my day keep receiving harassing amounts of phone calls well driving and trying to get to my customers again to pay these dickheads off. I will be leaving this bank once my credit cards are finally paid off. They are a bunch of thieves, been a customer of theirs for over 20 years and i'm done their policies are disgusting. -5stars go duck yourselves Scotia.

Mobile account 2 step verification failures.

I bought a new Samsung A56 phone. When I first tried to access Scotiabank with it, it wanted me to enter 2 step verification information. It never came through on the phone. I've tried a dozen times, and it still doesn't go through. I wen to Scotiabank, and the teller expressed no surprise at all that I was having that trouble. He said that it happens all the time when people get new phones. He said it wasn't a problem, and he could fix it. He couldn't. He finally gave up, and gave me a number to call, that gives you a bot that leads you in circles. Fortunately, I can still get into my account on PC. The phone account is stuck, and I can't use my mobile phone, until someone helps me with the 2 step verification problem. (When I check my account on the PC, I had multiple $2.00 debits, and credits from Google, showing the setup failures. My concern now, is that at some point, they will ask for 2step verification so that I can use my pc account,

Sara at the Sheridan Branch …

Their employee at the Sheridan Branch Sara, seems to come up with fresh new roadblocks every time we sought to resolve our mortgage issue. Instead of helping us out she created new hurdles, every six months. A bad CSR.

Misleading instructions

Misleading instructions, wasted time, and rude management. I was told to visit by January but still got threatened with charges for not funding an account I couldn’t access yet. My government IDs weren’t accepted without warning, and the branch manager was extremely unhelpful and dismissive. Closed the account immediately. Avoid this branch.
