Awful racist behavior cannot be supported!

I do not support racism. Seeing the viral video of the CEO of this company made me sick. I do not feel that you can make an apology for this type of behavior without stating you will be undergoing extensive counseling.

A Primer on “Rights”

I think there are some people who misunderstand what they view as “rights”. One of the five star reviewers congratulated Mr. Lofthouse on exercising his first amendment right. There are a few caveats to rights. First and foremost, a “right” of one cannot impinge on the “right” of another. Second, Some “rights” are curtailed, legally, by principles of universal basic manners, and morally (if a person has a developed moral compass) in private spaces, such as a restaurant. I can’t walk into a coffee shop and just start saying whatever I want to say. I curtailed my right when I cross the threshold from public space (most likely the sidewalk in a city or the road in a suburb) into private space (a store, a mall parking lot, a person’s house).

More and more I get the feeling that people, not understanding what “rights” are, hide behind them to simply act out while lacking one or more of the following: manners, empathy, compassion, grace, ethics, morals... and the list goes on. But if there is a basic understanding that one person’s “rights” should not ever impinge on another persons “rights”, that takes a lot of guess work out of people’s heads.d
