I have a 3-year-old Westie named Hamish. He certainly has “Westitude”, and I love him dearly. He has been my companion since he was seven weeks old. He has the typical Westie health issues - allergies, dermatitis, ear infections. However, at 1 year old he was diagnosed with a serious disease - a liver shunt (portosystemic shunt). It is a birth defect wherein the blood bypasses the liver, preventing proper detoxification. Toxins build up in the bloodstream and can cause potentially fatal health concerns. He has also been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and urine crystals in his bladder.
Hamish has had four partners managing his care. He is fortunate to have Horseshoe Valley Veterinarians (Barrie, ON) and their team as his primary care givers. They are a wonderful team of professionals. Then there is team at the Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital who took care of him in June, 2023 when they diagnosed his liver shunt and performed the surgery on him in August to close it. Another partner are the experts at Royal Canin who help choose the diet supporting his special needs.
These have been challenging times for Hamish and me, and all his health care providers. Thankfully, and importantly, our fourth partner, Pets Plus Us is the cornerstone of his heath. They have helped with the vet bills and give me peace-of-mind to enable me to continue treating his various health issues. Their pet portal is easy to use to find out details about my policy and to submit my claims and medical records. And they are prompt at reimbursing me!
Pet Plus Us helps me give Hamish the care he needs to stay healthy and to keep him by my side.

Terrible customer service and poor policy communication
This company had changed hands and is not

We have faithfully paid into this policy so that it would be there when needed. Despite numerous emails requesting further information, they refuse to send via email and insist on a phone call. It is our legal right to see this written information.

I just recently took an insurance from…
I just recently took an insurance from them for my 3 cats.
1) They ask 3 tests for an older cats but don't pay for them even if everything is ok.
2) My older cats got sick right after those tests and even if they said she was covered from the start, they refuse to pay for her illness.
3) Now they ask me why I want to remove her from the insurance!!!

Discourage insuring older dogs
When my dog turned 13 they more than doubled premiums to $333.27 a month plus $500 deductible from $145 per month. It seems they only want to insure young healthy dogs. I would never use them again.

Like other posters, I started with PC financial pet insurance and it was then taken over by pets plus. I have a 15 year-old dog. I just received a renewal and her insurance has gone from $104 a month to $242.a month. This is astronomical and is taking advantage of the insured. I would definitely say buyer beware with this company. I was floored that they increased my rate by 130%. We also have a $500 deductible. And when I asked if there was a way for me to Have it looked at again by the underwriter, I was told that was impossible. I am beyond words that I am considering cancelling pet insurance on a dog that is 15 years old that has had pet insurance her entire life. Look elsewhere this is not a trustworthy company.

Ever-Increasing Premiums
The premium keeps going up. We started our plan paying $110 with the Costco discount when we got our puppy. Now, my dog is only 2 years old, and we're paying $160 after the discount.

Monthly premium more than doubled from $70 to $149.85
I have a basic plan, $1500 coverage per illness per year. As my dog aged, the annual deductible increased. I was okay with that. He’s nine years old and I just received my annual notification of the new premium, it went from $70 per month to $149.85, more than double! Combine that with the $400 annual deductible and it just isn’t worth it. When I called to cancel, the customer service rep even said that they do not think it’s right that they are doing this.

Poison a pre-existing condition???
Our dog was poisoned (unknown to us at the time). Brought him in for blood tests. Tests came back abnormal , it was suggested to get bile acid test which also came back abnormal then to get a CT scan which came back normal. We were told by pets plus us that this was a pre-existing problem therefore not covered. He is now back to himself no thanks to pets plus us. A waste of time getting insurance through them.

Incredibly fast claim reimbursement
When my dog got sick a couple of weeks ago, the cost of the vet bill was not something I had budgeted for. A charge of that amount on my credit card (and the possible interest) was terrifying. I am incredibly thankful that I have insurance with Pets Plus Us. They processed the claim and deposited the reimbursement into my bank account in less than one week.

Shady and Dishonourable!

Pets+Us is downright shady and dishonest. I have my Yorkie dog insured with them since she was born, so well over 12 years I have been paying monthly premiums for the Ultra contract package (this was the highest premium package offered at the time with the most coverage). There have been no issues.
Now, they recently told me they are dropping my Ultra contract package and replacing it with one offering lower coverage at a slightly lower premium for my now SENIOR dog. They want to charge under $100 per month and only offer a maximum of $3,000 per YEAR (instead of what I had which was $4,500 per CONDITION per year!!!
I am not in agreement as this is less coverage than I originally had paid for and agreed to.
What they're offering now is almost 4 times less coverage per year. They are basically trying to kick out older loyal customers with older dogs off their list of responsibilities. I have contacted my lawyer friend to research with her litigators what can be done to stop them from cancelling my current Ultra contract package. It is also important to note, that over the past 12 years they have ldoubled my premium amounts and also increased my deductible amounts. I feel that I have been taken for a fool. If this was an insurance for humans, this would never fly. 
Pets + Us took notes of my issues with the inferior insurance policy they are proposing. Someone is supposed to call me back to discuss this. I will give them one week to reply and act accordingly. After one week, failure to do so will trigger a lawsuit pursuit on my behalf.
Be honourable Pets + Us, do the right thing.

Look elsewhere for pet insurance
The major issue I’ve had with PetsPlusUs is their massive yearly premium increase. They have increased my premiums by 50% each year the last few years, while also increasing the deductible. On top of that I’ve had to fight with them several times after they have rejected claims that were absolutely insurable claims and not preexisting conditions.

By far the best pet insurance around!
I have had a Pets Plus Us policy for 4 years now and have made periodic claims. My pet got diagnosed with allergies and requires a medication for the foreseeable future. Pets Plus Us has covered all of my claims relating to those allergies including the medication. I have had no complaints what so ever and their agents on the phone are very pleasant and actually have a conversation with you rather than sounding like a robot reading off a script. A+ service!

Highly Recommend
I purchased a policy for my dog when he was a puppy. I am SO GRATEFUL that I purchased the policy. Pets Plus Us has been a fanstastic partner. All claims have been paid in a timely manner, per the policy terms, no surprises at all, I have never had to appeal a claim.
My dog has had some complex health issues and it has been such a relief to be able to make decisions for his care based upon what is based for him and our family vs. a financial decision.
I highly recommned Pets Plus Us and would definitely purchase again.

Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money. I haven't made a claim in 10 years until my dog fell down the stairs and injured her paw. The accident insurance wouldn't cover any vet expenses because she has arthritis, which was pre-existing. If a fall down the stairs isn't an accident, I don't know what is. Lightning strike?

Screwing over PC pet insurance customers
When they initially took over PC pet insurance, there were no major issues. They recently told us they are dropping the old PC plans and offered lower coverage at a very high price for my senior dog. They want to charge over $100 per month and are only offering a pool of $3000 per year, which is less coverage than we originally had. Our existing plan provided $1500 per condition for a little over $30 per month, so if I claimed for multiple conditions, I could end up getting back more than $3K. What they're offering now is almost 4 times more expensive. They are basically trying to kick PC customers with older dogs off their plan.

They will not cover anything that they consider a pre existing condition. The breed of dog you have almost is guaranteed to be excluded from coverage based on the breed characteristics. I have a dachshund who injured her back playing and they won't cover her because the breed is prone to IVDD. If you have a shitzhu, beagle, German shepherd, lahsa apso, Basset Hound or other breed that could get IVDD, they will not cover anything. Absolute scam. Should have just saved the money myself.

Canceling senior pet policies
Disgusting company! We've been with Pets Plus Us for over 12 years and I get an email today my policy is being cancelled because it's "outdated". Now that my dog is a senior they aren't making money off her anymore, so they cancel the plans offering us a more expensive plan with less benefits.
They advertise 4Life Guarantee! "Our promise to you". The only reason we stayed with them.
