PayPal does NOT care about their customers

PayPal does NOT care about their customers. They are suppose to be the safe way for transactions to be made are they’re not. I had a fraudulent charge made by Roku whom I’ve NEVER purchased from before. I have an account that I haven’t used in years from when I was gifted a Roku tv for Christmas (like 10 years ago). I never made purchases through them however. Anyway, I don’t even think it was really Roku who falsely made the charge because I did forgot password and logged into the Roku account and sure enough they show no purchases having ever been made. I took screen shots to show PayPal. It’s been a month and I’ve heard nothing from PayPal after being reassured previously that I’d e taken care of and would hear something soon. I finally contacted them and they could care less. They kept saying I made the purchase and there was nothing wrong on their end. I implored them to look into it because clearly something isn’t right and a fake charge was made and they told me no. And this was an over $80 charge. They said I must have family member that made the purchase. That’s not possible, literally no one has access to my bank or card info other than me and my family doesn’t us Roku either. I’m just so disappointed in their customer service and lack of care. They just wouldn’t listen to me and kept blaming me. They also kept saying I changed the case reason to “not receiving the product” the day after the charge was made (I opened case the day of the fake charge). That doesn’t even make sense. I never changed anything other than adding pictures of there being no charges from Rokus website.

IN BED WITH SCAMMERS AND REALLY POOR DISPUTE RESOLUTION.

I have used PayPal for years and lately they seem to have become much worse at resolving disputes and seem to positively put barriers in the way of their customers who raise a dispute. This is obviously to give them a better chance of ruling against individuals and in favour of corporate clients, who in my experience are often scammers - especially if a purchase is made via social media.
Their service is most unsatisfactory and I cannot recommend it.

The first question from Trustpilot is…

The first question from Trustpilot is "What went wrong this time?" Very good wording.
Other half bought two cashmere sweaters from China using Paypal for payment. When they arrived they were 100% acrylic - were Paypal interested? no!
I am trying to finalise opening a business account with Paypal and I am dealing with bot after bot after bot. Are there any humans there?

Horrible company with shady business practices

Horrible company. We are seniors living on social security and only use credit cards on an emergency basis. I had my PayPal account set to use my PayPal Balance as my preferred payment which I tried to use for groceries. Have never done this before but had enough money in the PayPal Balance to do it, so I thought I'd try it. So instead of paying for the groceries with the PayPal Balance, PayPal used the back-up credit card as payment. You have to jump through 63 hoops to dispute a charge, and of course you have to dispute the business because you cannot dispute anything PayPal did wrong. Needless to say, their customer service was no help because they will not hold themselves accountable. So I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and it did absolutely no good. PayPal did reverse the charge off the credit card when I made the complaint and then debited the credit card in the end anyway. What good does it do to have a setting to use PayPal Balance if PayPal is going to to use whatever method they want? Very poor way to conduct business and treat customers, and pretty shady customer service.

PayPal are absolute scum! Close your account, watch them bleed out

PayPal are absolute scum. They will freeze your funds, clawback refunds in secret, remain silent, stall and ignore until regulatory involvement forces them to. Their only representatives with the authority to remedy anything are uncontactable outside of email. Hidden behind a manufactured communication wall, no customer service can apparently reach their own Senior Escalations team. It's so pathetically thinly veiled, only a hapless moron would expect consumers to not immediately see through it and put up with it. They WILL refuse to respond for weeks at a time whilst they hold your money without reason, compiling your financial injuries. There's a simple solution, close your account, there are better options for the exact same purposes and they are superior alternatives. They won't treat you like dirt just so they can earn interest on YOUR trapped liquidity which appears to be PayPal's business model. They are essentially a scam operation operating as a global corporate entity. I'm loving watching this company stagnate and rot from the inside. Who would've thought that treating your customer base like trash wasn't a good long term strategy... right PayPal?? So confusing... Why are businesses and consumers leaving our platform in droves??? Ohh that's because we have the worst customer service and most malicious predatory business practices in global commerce...??? Weird..

Quick and Easy to use

I had an issue to resolve with a customer and I just sent my email and I received the money within minutes. I like to use PayPal a lot and trust them. I have had no issues with the app and my money. You can transfer the money into your account or can shop on PayPal for something you want or need.

I don’t understand

I don’t understand; my monthly payment was obviously withdrawn from my bank twice, and they’re acting like there’s confusion about returning one of the payments. Absolutely take the first payment, I pay what’s due. But at this point they have taken $1638.26 from me.

Great job PayPal!

Great job PayPal! You officially rule a case in my favor, acknowledge that the seller was wrong, and then refund me €0.01 instead of €23.00 because of an app glitch. Support agents literally admit seeing the mistake in the case notes but tell me there's "nothing they can do" because their software doesn't allow them to fix their own mistakes. Absolutely pathetic support.

Deceptive Fee Omissions and Suppressed Feedback Loops: A Warning to Consumers

PayPal is actively utilizing deceptive user interface (UI) layouts and "dark patterns" to trick mobile app users into paying premium transaction fees.

The Deception:
When attempting to transfer a PayPal balance to a linked bank account or debit card, the interface forces a choice between a "Standard" transfer (1–3 days) or a "Minutes" transfer. Shockingly, on the initial screen where this selection is made, PayPal completely omits any mention of the 1.75% transaction fee associated with the instant option. There is no percentage listed, no flat fee disclosed, no asterisk, and no hyperlink to structural details. By entirely hiding this critical financial information at the point of decision, the platform relies on consumer oversight to capture fees that users would otherwise decline if given transparent information upfront.

The Suppressed Feedback Loops:
To make matters worse, PayPal has intentionally restricted its internal consumer grievance architecture. When attempting to log an official complaint through their online portal, users are subjected to an abusive 100-character limit to describe the issue and a 250-character limit to state a resolution. This is a deliberate design choice that strangles customer feedback and prevents users from fully documenting predatory practices. Furthermore, upon submitting the form, the interface flashes a highly misleading confirmation stating, "Your email has been sent!" In reality, PayPal provides no email address to log complaints directly, fails to issue any automated confirmation tracking email, and leaves the consumer completely without a receipt, copy, or reference number for their records.

Constructive Feedback for PayPal:
To correct these anti-consumer practices and restore platform trust, PayPal must implement three immediate structural changes:

Upfront Transparency: Display the exact 1.75% fee clearly on the initial transfer selection menu before a user clicks through.Accessible Redress: Remove restrictive character caps on internal consumer complaint forms to allow complete, accurate reporting of grievances.

Accurate Tracking: Fix the confirmation screen language and provide automated email receipts with unique tracking numbers for all submitted customer service forms.

Advice to Consumers:
Until these transparency issues are corrected, avoid the "Minutes" option entirely and default exclusively to the free, Standard 1–3 day transfer network. I have officially escalated these deceptive interface choices to the federal government under CFPB Case ID: 260911-38254980.
