5 stars to Customer Service at Head Office, 0 for Morocco

I had a disgraceful experience with Thrifty Morocco (Marrakesh Airport). They charged me - without any communication - 900€ (full excess deposit) for a reasonably small vandals scratch on an old, heavily scratched car (23 scratches on the damage report at rental start). They never replied to my emails, faxes, certified letters and were extremely rude on the phone. They lied to Atlas Choice (Internet Rental Agency) saying I had signed a damage report and saying that they had made 1000€ of repairs to the car.

Fortunately the Thrifty-Hertz Customer Service Centre in Swords, Ireland intervened and reimbursed me this charge so my overall experience with Thrifty, although extremely painful, was ultimately satisfactory. I only hope that the criminals in the Moroccan franchise will lose their jobs or their franchise. Many thanks to Thrifty-Hertz Head Office for responding to my complaint and restoring my faith in humanity.

Scam artists extraordinaire ...

I pre-booked a car rental with Thrifty from the UK to be picked up at SeaTac Airport (Seattle, WA) When I saw the representative at the desk we completed paperwork and I was told that all charges were covered from my pre-booking. I was then asked if I wanted additional coverage, which I declined.

I was given a "summary" of my rental costs (I did not receive an invoice from the UK operation) and I was asked to sign the rental agreement, which I did.

On my return to the UK my credit card was charged with an additional $496.49 !! When I queried the charge I was told that I had agreed to the additional coverage, which I certainly did not agree to. As a matter or principle, I never take additional insurance whether it is on electrical goods, loans, vehicle hire or any other item - it is a waste of money and in most cases, unnecessary.

I would expect to be reimbursed with these charges which were not wanted, agreed with or accepted.

In the future I will be looking to rent with other hire companies rather than Thrifty - or Hertz, who own them.

Easy and nice to deal with

Having had our car hire with Easirent (booked through Argus / cartrawler) cancelled and not refunded, we had to hire a car on the spot at Edinburgh airport. Thrifty could not have been more helpful. OK, it was a lot more expensive than booking in advance, but there we no additional extras - insurance excess etc all included, petrol full just return full. Very easy and pleasant to deal with, would definitely recommend.

The worst car company I have delt with

In summary: NEVER USE THRIFTY CAR HIRE IN DUBLIN

I had the misfortune of booking via carhire3000 who then choose the car rental company for you, they chose Thrifty, and so the saga begins...

I turned up at Dublin airport with 3 friends, it took 1hour 25 minutes from arriving and finally getting into the car.

The detritus behind the desk took pleasure in all the hidden costs he was laying on me, I truely hope he uses whatever commision he got from me to do some dental work to his rotten front-right tooth!

The car was 5 years old! Full of little dents and scratches, a couple of suspect stains/smudges to the interior. Luckily I have hired cars before so I knew to check over the car and make sure that EVERY dent/scratch was marked off. - I had been told by the porter that the car had been checked and all marks noted, when I looked at it I laughted and insisted that they followed me around the car and marked everything correctly. Had I not done so I am sure I would have been charged on return of the car!

It left me with such a horrid feeling that to this day I am still furious with the treatment I got from the company, I travel into DUblin airport often and I am always tempted to go to the desk and see the scumbag that served me that day...

Never, ever, EVER will I have dealings with them again.
