WORST email provider I have ever had
WORST email provider I have ever had. Locked out of my emails FOR MONTHS due to 2 step verification incessant prompts. "Tech" is totally, unhelpful, does not care for customers, hard to understand with speech accents (foreign) and provides no solutions to account verification access problems. Does not return phone calls and blows you off repeatedly when called back over and over. Tried to close my account after 20 plus years and was told "sorry we can't verify your account" like a broken record. Had to go to my bank to stop the monthly debit to get this horrid company out of my life. AVOID AOL AND SAVE YOURSELF HOURS OF FRUSTRATION..... TAKE IT FROM ME.
Worst email provider
Worst email provider. One day, I was kicked out of my account. When I tried to log in, they said, “Try a device you’ve signed in with before,” even though it was literally the same PC, browser, and ISP I had used before. I forgot which email address or phone number I had used as a backup, and no SMS or email option appeared when I tried some of them. I know the password, so I should be able to log in. Period. I’m switching to Proton.

Please remove all the annoying ads they serve no purpose for the user and after nearly 30 years with you I am about to leave and use another email service who don’t insist on pushing adverts on to us unsolicited in our emails!!

Unfortunately no UK call centre all in the USA and never seem to get the same person handling my case so no continuity...feels like being on a treadmill going round and round... definitely not the standard of service when I first went with AOL!
AOL support can't fix password problems
There is no way to email them, you have to call.
It would not recognize my password, and , and they tried but were unable to fix that. Eventually tried to recover my account, but said my it was locked and to try again after a few days. Tried calling again and no one answered. All AOL reviews are negative.
They don't even need 1 star they need 0…
They don't even need 1 star they need 0 stars. How is it that we have to pay for technical support? They won't help you over the phone unless you are paying for it or you have to be on a paid plan for live support.
Recent Deterioration…
Generally I find AOL has been good over the past 30 odd years during which I have used it. However, with the various changes of ownership, the service has deteriorated, especially under Yahoo. The new owners who purchased AOL from Yahoo seem to have abandoned their customers. The "news" is now mainly "olds" and the comments section has said "Whoops, something went wrong" for around two weeks now. There is no way to contact AOL other than ringing a US number. In the old days, when AOL Chat Rooms were available the service was excellent but, nowadays, it is in desperate need of some total loving care.
Loved AOL But It's Gone Downhill
I used to love AOL so much. I have e-mail addresses I've had since the 2000's, one since the 2010's, and one since the 90's. And now I'm pretty sure they've all been deactivated and those usernames/e-mails are locked for good. And you apparently can't revive your account in any way including signing up and using your old e-mail address/username even if you're the one who originally had the account. I know the last is for security, which is fine, but you'd think the original owner would be able to use it at least with proof. I had reasons I wanted to keep my e-mails and then they do this without proper warning or options. It's completely rude and disrespectful to do things this way without a care for the people that have supported you over the years or really to any user. Why even bother to sign up for their service at all? A bunch of usernames are now unusable, and the service isn't reliable/stable. And they force you to call them for any issue, too!! Also, I think doing this to accounts when people have life stuff and some of us struggle with mental health issues (like myself) is messed up and the worst cause we can't always keep up with everything perfectly and don't want to constantly worry about such things. I'm never using or trusting AOL again, which makes me incredibly sad to say. Only way is if they change ownership and/or leadership, make key changes, and actually show they care again. They should have focused on updating the site and features to draw people back more. Heck, if they did that, I might have used it more and even considered paying some for extra features and/or storage if I had the means. Not gonna happen at this point of course. Do better AOL! Whoever is running this company now or responsible for these poor choices are truly running it into the ground, and the AOL brand truly deserves better given the legacy it had before. But yeah, would not recommend using them at all now, obviously.

AOL heavy censorship and phony security and verification checks bog the user down.
I told them my account was hacked
I told them my account was hacked, and they just responded with, "unfortunately we can't help you" thank God for gmail.
Cowboy set up
Do not understand consumer rights.
Took 2 hours to get a warranty replacement.
Unresponsive to complaints and no regard to GDPR law.
Not fit for purpose!
What is the point of the aol news on the app, when firstly it doesn't work, and it's never updated to new news, it's all old news and that won't open.
I wouldn't even give it 1 star if I could
Unreliable AOL email service.
Have been with AOL email for twenty years and now all of a sudden I have been locked out of emails on my IPhone I have tried all sorts of ways to sign in often using AOLs advise but to no avail, I have now decided to go with a much more reliable service such as GMail
Verification proof of identity requests
I fail to see why AOL need to regularly request I "prove" who I am - I have had my same account for at least 20 years. This annoying incessant pop-up rubbish NEVER happens with my Gmail account.
Porn content emails…
AOL’s spam filtering is extremely ineffective. I receive explicit pornographic spam emails daily, and despite repeatedly reporting them — including escalating the issue to AOL management — the messages continue flooding my inbox. Very disappointing email security and filtering.
AOL comments' section sucks...
Actually, less than zero. After Yahoo got involved with AOL, one of my inboxes was deluged with spam. Now, if I understand correctly, Yahoo has sold AOL on, so let's hope there is substantial change for the better. Including less 'Big Brother' monitoring of what some DEI-inclined idiots regard as less than politically-correct observations that do NOT align with their very narrow criteria for publication. Yet they allow some pretty snide responses - go figure - while banning others that are just direct with no invective...
E mail lock out
I have been locked out of my email account and the recovery process does not work.
Tried 9 times with there recovery process.
They opened a trouble shooting ticker and said someone would call me but of course no one does
Been going on for 2 weeks
Put a complaint ito BBB but that didn’t help they don’t care. Has cost me a lot of money. It will take awhile but I will eventually get everything transferred to a gmail
Worst customer service I have ever dealt with on my life
I pay every month for AOL premium…
I pay every month for AOL premium technical support. So now when I need them, they fail. I can't sign in on my laptop. Second authentication says they'll send my phone a text - or WhatsApp text or call - and I don't receive any of them. AOL can't explain why or fix it. Said maybe I used second authentication too many times. Is twice a month too many times? Couldn't tell me how many was "too many", but more importantly, couldn't tell me what else I could do. Suggested trying again in 24 hours. Sounded like they had no idea how to fix it, so threw it out there. So much for paying for technical support!
Absolutely atrocious service
Absolutely atrocious service, deleted emails don't go into trash they just vanish into thin air so can't be retrieved, and even if you try to delete a forwarded draft it just deletes the original email AS WELL so you can't even get to the original message. Never EVER get an AOL email it's just awful.
