The ability to help poorer women across a wide range of countries to provide for the education of their children thus improving opportunities for the next generation has a strong appeal for me.

I like the concept of connecting lenders with specific borrowers who are in need of loans to improve their lives. The Kiva site is very easy to utilize and offers a diverse choice of loan-seekers. I like seeing how specific borrowers are moving towards reaching their goal of being funded and then paying back the loan. The site offers a wide variety of countries, borrowers, and types of projects to be funded.

Kiva offers a great way to support individual borrowers worldwide. Most of the loans are fully repaid over time, so the same funds can be reinvested again and again. This has enabled me over the years to support almost 300 borrowers in over 75 countries, and make a positive impact in these individuals’ lives. I lend on Kiva because we are all connected.

I like the idea of micro-lending and the ability to reach people all over the world.

I particularly appreciate the fact that the goals are concrete and realistic, while also having a positive impact on the lives of loan applicants—such as helping a small business owner stock up on tools, or enabling a farmer to start a more profitable crop. The requirement to repay the loan adds a dual dimension: it is educational (it is not a handout) and it affirms the individual's dignity and capability (it is a loan rather than charity—much like the loans we ourselves might take out for a mortgage or a major purchase).

It's a way to help others around the world that doesn't cost a lot (most loans are totally repaid). There are many ways to tailor your loan to your own interests or what you care about.

I worked in international development for much of my professional life. Managing projects in villages and slums I fully appreciate the value of community involvement and the immense potential of micro finance in making development assistance affordable and sustainable. KIVA does a great job in addressing those pressing needs.

The micro loan model seems simultaneously powerful and tiny. I deeply appreciate Kiva's perspective that the people themselves, not donors, know what the people need. I don't know if this is true, but it seems to me that micro loans are well suited to women trying to better their and their children's lives and lots.

Exceptional charity with vetted borrowers you can select to match your own values and interests (e.g. healthcare, farming, entrepreneurship, etc.). It is also very gratifying to get updates on how your borrower is doing, 100% of my loans over many years have been repaid.

I have been lending with Kiva for 20 years, it's a great way to help others, one $25 loan at a time. The borrower repays, you lend to someone else, and repeat. Maybe they grow their business and start to employ and train others. You make a difference not just in single lives, but a whole community, and over time that $25 becomes $5000 in loans. It's an excellent way to honour a lost loved one by doing this in their memory.
