Unable to leave zero stars and 1 is too…
Unable to leave zero stars and 1 is too generous. Had a quote of £1963. in March 2021 from Dempsey Dyer for a stable door in Accoya hardwood - was unable to progress immediately as they only supply and their recommended local fitters;, Aire Valley Glass, failed to acknowledge or respond to my communications. Having conducted some research on fitting costs and timeframes, it seems £250 to £400 and a few hours is the range for fitting the door.
I revisited this project in August having finally elicited a response from AVG who now quoted me £3240 (no breakdown - only an apparent shakedown) for door supplied by DD and fitted by AVG. If you deduct the upper cost of the aforementioned £400 for fitting, this leaves a cost for the door as £2840 - a whopping £877 more than the original quote which equates to approx 45% increase, either that or AVG are charging appx £1270 to fit the door - a job their rep who measured the door frame at my house said would take ' a morning to get it done '.
I was informed by DD that my earlier quote from March was now invalid and they declined to re-quote and referred me back to their apparent bezzers at AVG claiming ' I would recommend you go through them (AVG) to get the door as our warranty suits a trade customer much better'.
Having requested an explanation regarding the apparent disparity in overall costing and a proper explanation regarding the 'our warranty suits a trade customer much better'', I have received no response.
The response I received from AVG when asked for a breakdown of supply and fitting costs serves as a complete red flag "We don’t provide breakdowns of our pricing, the price quoted will be the total price for the job, supplied and fitted'.
Needless to say, with the total lack of transparency around their comms and inability to get their stories straight, there's no way I'll be doing business with either of them. Especially when I've received far more competitive and reliable quotes from other firms and which also include a full breakdown of the door and fitting costs.
When I decided to get a new hardwood front door, I assumed 'hardwood' related to the density, durability and longevity of the product, it obviously applies to the saga I've endured dealing with these two companies too !
