I strongly advise people to think twice before subscribing to De Telegraaf. When I signed up, the salesperson clearly told me I could cancel at any time — but when I tried, customer service refused and demanded a “valid reason.” They even said that not being able to afford it wasn’t good enough.
This is completely unacceptable and goes against Dutch consumer law, which allows cancellation with a one-month notice period. Their tactics feel misleading and unfair. It’s frustrating to deal with a company that doesn’t respect basic consumer rights or honour what their representatives promise.
I’m currently escalating the issue to the Autoriteit Consumenten & Markt (ACM) and the Consumentenbond. If you’re thinking about subscribing, be very careful and make sure you have everything in writing.
