THE WORST

The only reason why they have 1.4 stars is because you cannot award 0 stars. I have been with Bank of America for 20 years and this is the WORST bank ever. Before making an account with them, please read my review: if you ever change your phone number, you will never be able to get back into your account. To authorize you, they will ask questions like "when is the birthday of your ex father in law?" and "what was the amount of the transaction on such-and-such day?" I had two different transactions on that date. So they blocked me! Now, I don't even have access to my own money. And the associates form Utica, NY are the worst - they are mean, rude, and don't even explain what you have to do. So if you are a customer or are thinking of becoming one, beware. There are many other nice banks out there - this one has a terrible customer service.

Support call Tuesday

Support call Tuesday, 09.15.2026 - at the time of an attempted online purchase, my card was apparently shared with several bogus merchant sites running up a sizeable total charge to the card. Thankfully, the event was flagged as a fraud against the card. I wanted to provide a very positive review of support specialist Tim for his help yesterday handling a fraud attempt against my B of A Alaska Visa card. I appreciated his knowledge and expertise for taking care of stopping a potential problem for me. Tim exhibited that he knew all the evidence and steps to resolve the issue / cancelling my current card and issuing a replacement. The support effort took a reasonably short amount of time and I want to thank Tim for all of his work. Paul Jezick

I’d give -10 stars if I could

I’d give -10 stars if I could. I’ve been with BofA for 25 years! Their locked doors for the ATM machine in apple valley NEVER open!!! It’s dangerous to be trying to open a door when there are homeless around. Total disregard for their customers safety! They also have the worst customer service. I make sure I withdraw every penny so they never benefit from my money. Horrible horrible bank. I’ll be transferring asap!

Bank of America transferred almost $20k…

Bank of America transferred almost $20k from my business account to a business credit card on Aug 31 at 630pm. I didn't authorize or arrange this transfer. I got blindsided. I got two emails about my balance after moving $10k into it same day. No alerts (set at any movement over $100) no message nothing. Just gone. I called within 15 minutes and was told it should reverse automatically by midnight due to the insufficient funds. Lie. I called next am and after 3 reps in 3 depts i was told it would reverse automatically by 5pm. Lie. I called again next am and was pass from dept to dept all saying they had no control over the other depts. I was told 3-5 days.....LIES all LIES. poorly trained reps and too many tentacles. dept after dept all blaming the other depts. It's been 16 days now. Mangers who don't call back and don't email....Managers that don't follow through. BofA is a total mess. Too big for their own good. Like a government shuffle. Horribly trained reps and horrible customer service. NO ONE TAKES OWNERSHIP. I've spend somewhere close to 14 hours on the phone over the last two weeks and 2 hours in a branch. NOTHING.

Just DON'T

Extremely frustrating experience with Bank of America. I opened a new account online, made the required minimum opening deposit, and set up direct deposit. Bank of America then closed the account without giving me a reasonable opportunity to resolve their verification issue.

When I called the Fraud/Account Closure department, I was told they had mailed me a letter requesting additional identification. The problem is that they closed my account before I even had a reasonable chance to receive the letter and respond.

What was most concerning was a supervisor telling me this is standard practice and that accounts can be closed before the mailed verification notice is even delivered. How is a customer supposed to provide additional identification when they don't know it's needed until after the bank has already closed the account?

Bank of America had my phone number and email, yet I received no meaningful warning or opportunity to resolve the issue. I offered to provide whatever additional identification they needed, but they refused to reopen the account.

Now my direct deposit is being returned, delaying access to my income and creating completely unnecessary financial stress.

I understand that banks have identity-verification and fraud-prevention requirements. What I do not understand is sending a verification request by mail and then closing the account before the customer can reasonably receive and respond to it.

Based on this experience and the way Bank of America handled the situation, I would not recommend doing business with Bank of America in any capacity. A financial institution should have procedures that allow customers a reasonable opportunity to resolve verification issues before taking actions that can disrupt access to their income.

Extremely disappointing experience with Bank of America

A customer service representative provided me with information that I relied upon, only to later discover that the information was incorrect. This experience completely undermined my confidence in Bank of America and its customer service.

Customers should be able to trust that information provided by their own bank’s representatives is accurate and reliable, especially when making financial decisions based on that information.

I hope Bank of America takes this matter seriously and works to improve the accuracy, accountability, and reliability of its customer service. Customers deserve accurate information and should not have to question whether the guidance they receive from the bank is trustworthy.

I am apparently a "preferred" customer

I am apparently a "preferred" customer. I have been with the bank for over 20 years, both as a business owner and a private citizen. I am a practising attorney with an Iolta account and need to find another bank that is trustworthy and actually cares about its customers. Next door's cat could do a better job!

Greedy

"I am deeply disappointed by my recent experience with Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. After 33 years of loyal banking as a woman, a Black business owner, and a long-term customer, I expected to be treated with integrity. Instead, I was met with broken promises regarding account closure fees. Despite being assured by management that no fees would be charged, the bank deducted $49.67 from my final balance.
It is disheartening to see a major institution prioritize a small, unjustified fee over three decades of customer loyalty. This experience has been a test of my spirit, and I am saddened by the lack of professional accountability. I am requesting that the bank rectify this error and return the $49.67 that was unfairly withheld. I ask that a member of the executive resolution team contact me immediately to resolve this matter. My business and my history with this institution deserved better."

I am extremely disappointed with my experience

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Bank of America and how my fraud claim has been handled. My card information was stolen, and my entire bank account was drained. I received a fraud alert from Bank of America around 3:30 AM, yet additional fraudulent transactions were still able to go through.

What has been even more frustrating is the aftermath. I was initially under the impression that I would receive a temporary credit while the investigation was being completed, but I am now being told that it could take up to 45 days for a decision. In the meantime, I am expected to figure out how to survive without money that I worked for and did not authorize anyone to take.

I understand that fraud investigations take time, but customers should not be left financially devastated while a bank investigates transactions that they reported as unauthorized.

I have been a victim of fraud, yet this entire process has made me feel like I am the one being punished. The lack of urgency, communication, and meaningful assistance has been incredibly disappointing. After this experience, I have lost a great deal of trust in Bank of America and would not recommend them to anyone looking for a bank that will make them feel protected when something goes wrong.

Dylan the manager on university ave…

Dylan the manager on university ave location Gainesville Florida is top tier professional his demeanor professionalism is the best I seen in over 20 yrs in customer service he has went above n beyond to help me every step of the way and very empathetic to the loss of my mother and helped make everything easier for me in opening account my deposit withdrawals and just overall the only employee who spoke to me with complete respect on phone and in person. Dylan personally handled most my bank experience inside local bank. He in that process explained everything clear and precise to me. And even tried to fix a major issue that occurred from a representative on the fraud line. I believe investing into him moving up in your company would be wise. For he can deal with people with honor respect and a professionalism that is far above excellence. I honestly am staying with bank of America only because of his amazing service and dedication to helping me handle this process that I can not say thank you enough for hiring Dylan he is such an absolute perfection in how he does his job with true character and professional demeanor I can not emphasize enough how amazing and wonderful a employee he is. Pray I never open my own bank I would try to hire him at triple what you pay him or more. Anything you invest in this man will benefit your company enormously.

Bank of america..

Bank of america... I get a deposit in my account for 39000 dollars. Payments that I had made to paypal and my credit cards before that money was deposited.. mind you, not a check, not an echeck, straight up transfer, BOA put a freeze on my account for possible fraud. You have to be kidding me... the payments that I made before and after... all being returned while they "investigate". I have had my account for 23 years, there has been nothing but problems, fees, charges, holds, bs... DO NOT BANK WITH BANK OF AMERICA

I have maintained my banking…

I have maintained my banking relationship with Bank of America since 1998. After nearly three decades of loyalty, they have completely refused to exercise reasonable customer discretion over a $16 monthly maintenance fee—even under extraordinary circumstances.During the month in question, I had completed $464.87 in qualifying debit card transactions, putting me just $35.13 short of the $500 waiver requirement. Ordinarily, this is never an issue because I have a recurring transaction of nearly $1,800 that charges at the end of every month. However, there was a legitimate merchant dispute involving that specific transaction. I had to wait until the correct amount was resolved before authorizing the payment, causing it to process on the 1st of the following month—a mere 24 hours late.Despite this clear, one-time circumstance, Bank of America rigidly assessed a $16 maintenance fee.I have spent an exhausting amount of time trying to resolve this directly. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with customer service, escalated the matter, and even filed a formal complaint with Client Services. After a "considered review," Bank of America’s executive office explicitly told me they would still refuse a $16 refund to a 28-year customer over a technical 24-hour shortfall. At this point, it is no longer about the $16. It is about a complete and utter lack of customer consideration. If Bank of America will treat a customer of nearly 30 years this poorly over a $35 technicality, they will do it to anyone. New customers should look elsewhere for a bank that actually values relationship history. I have officially escalated this matter to the CFPB, OCC, and BBB.
