Horrible service since it is easyBank

The change from Barclays to EasyBank has been a disaster. I'm the app, push notifications are not anymore working (for longer than 2 months already... They keep on working on it). If you transfer money to your account, there's often a communication mistake and you need to repeat it several times until it works (tried from different banks, this was not an issue in Barclays). Customer service replies after several days with non-resolutive answers, closing the ticket and ignoring clients. From the different cards I have, is the only one failing to pay through PayPal, on random situations (even when they are my verifies accounts and saved and authorised cards in both PayPal and easybank).

I was a loyal customer of Barclaycard…

I was a loyal customer of Barclaycard Deutschland (now easybank/BAWAG) for over 10 years. I held a Platinum Double card which included various insurances. Over the years, the bank unilaterally increased my credit limit up to €15,500—an increase I never requested, but eventually utilized while strictly staying within my allowed limit.

Without any warning, I suddenly received a physical letter stating they were canceling my credit card completely, immediately stripping me of all the associated insurance coverage I was paying for.

Given the high limit they had pushed on me, I politely wrote to them to arrange a standard installment plan (Ratenzahlung) to settle the remaining balance. They didn’t even bother to write a reply. Instead, they sent me a crude invoice, attaching a copy of my own letter, bluntly demanding the entire amount to be paid immediately in one lump sum.

I have now paid off everything down to the last cent just to be done with them. I want absolutely nothing to do with this bank or anyone working for it ever again. Their aggressive and unprofessional behavior toward long-term customers is disgraceful. I strongly advise everyone against opening even the smallest account or contract with them. Banks operating with such a predatory and disrespectful business model simply shouldn't exist in the modern financial landscape."

Card suddenly not working

I had a Barclays credit card. It worked perfectly but all of a sudden started declining transactions without any explanations. Then I got a new EasyBank credit card. I set it up everywhere - Ive spent my whole Sunday and still cannot make it work. Very frustrated and annoyed with this whole thing. The least I expect is a reason to why the transactions are not working. Very bad experience. there is ZERO customer service in Germany. VERY POOR service.

RUN AWAY

As an expat who chose Barclays because I've been banking with them for 10+ years in the UK but that was a mistake. Appalling customer service that i haven’t seen elsewhere, app is also extremely outdated and not pleasant to use. Many many better providers out there.

Bad communication

Same like other complains. The credit card used to be helpful. Feel like being trapped to be 'upgraded' for 99eu per year. Impossible to contact with human agency. Having problem or questions about credit card ? - Have fun with automatic customer cares on the app which solves nothing. Or send an message and wish they reply quickly enough. Bye bye Barclays.

Forced change from free visa to Barclays Platinum Double

On October 6, 2025, my bank, Barclays, sent me an email threatening that if I did not switch to a paid product by November 3, 2025, they would terminate our business relationship.

On November 5, 2025, I received a new email congratulating me on my decision to switch products. On the same day, I replied directly to this email with: "Hello,
I have not decided to switch products, nor have I agreed to do so. Why am I still receiving this message?" I have not received a reply to date.

I have already tried to resolve this issue with customer service via the customer portal and have also contacted customer service by phone. Barclays believes, or rather, their system allegedly shows, that I agreed to new terms and conditions when I opened the app, but I cannot remember doing so. Barclays was also unable to provide me with any evidence that clearly proves this agreement via IP address and timestamp, including the relevant content (terms and conditions).

Apart from the fact that my last product change at Barclays was very complicated and could only be carried out with a personal signature and by filling out a form, I find the mere possibility of changing from a free product to a paid product with an annual fee of EUR 99 simply by agreeing to some terms and conditions (which I still haven't seen) unacceptable.

The WORST ever customer-care

The WORST ever customer-care. You could die while trying to reach a "human". They have an e-loop where you're just forwarded in the way to be pissed off. There are some phone numbers but hell! You'll never reach someone to explain the issue. What a misfortune to ever have had applied for their card service. A huge regret. Never ever would suggest to anyone.

The bank prevented the theft of money from our credit cards, but the unpleasant feeling remained.

Because of somebody from Canada bank blocked a large amount of money from me, severely limiting my financial options just when I was on vacation. The situation was not restored soon. The bank did not even apologize for the inconvenience caused. At the same time, and also from Canada, someone withdrew money from my son's card. Also this situation was not restored soon. Neither of us had used our cards for a year before this incident. This means that someone stole our data not from us, but from Barclay Bank itself! We no longer feel safe using your bank.

Great, but not the best service

I was always ok with their credit card, online banking etc. But when I did not receive an order, paid with the credit card, they refused to do an chargeback and instead forwarded me to some sketchy insueance company, who of course did not compensate me as well.
Edit: They paid me now!

I have had a great deal of difficulty…

I have had a great deal of difficulty beginning my Barclay Card experience. The online website (not app) is not showing my statements. I set up a direct debit but then found I had incurred a late fee. The email and post messages are contradictory and very unclear. I finally called customer support and was told that my direct debit had finally been set up weeks after I submitted it and had not paid my first statement. They did remove the late fee. They said a representative would phone me but no calls and still not able to see my statement. I do not want to download the app and the online site does not function properly. Very disappointed

Surprising block of card without notification

Experience with Barclays Visa in China is disappointing. Used the card for WeChat and Alipay. Apperantly Barclays does not know how to change their security system as they know these services may cause their system to react but they dont change a thing. Card was blocked multiple times and took over an hour with calling them to get it unblocked again...

I'd give 0 stars if I could

I'd give 0 stars if I could. I wanted to finance something but I place the wrong date for the finance and after absolutely no help and 3 MONTHS of trying. Also the customer support saying yeah we will fix the issue and change the date and even talking to them on the phone yet nothing has changed. They still haven't changed the date. I cannot recommend Barclays. Worst customer support I've had in YEARS.

Absolute zero protection against fraud

Absolute zero protection against fraud. Do not get this card. Cancel it immeditely before you get problems. I had to spend sleepless nights and countless hours trying to reach merchants to get my refunds as this card does not credit invalid transactions, unlike amex. They would even send you a letter that they cannot credit long after you had worked a way to get credits from sellers, as this card has incompetent staff who really do not look into issues, as obviously not even aware that a credit is already posted. If a scammer in some far away country runs with your funds, sends you trash, and does not provide sender shipping info, this bank will do absolutely nothing.

They are willing to take our money for…

They are willing to take our money for credit card payments, but a simple change of phone number on our account is unallowable and the entire customer service chain is a brigade of incompetence and arrogance. How a company like this can be trusted to manage accounts is beyond me.
