Beaches Ruined our Vacation

We recently returned from a stay at Beaches Turks and Caicos, and while we paid a significant premium to book an upgraded room category months in advance, the service we received during a major personal milestone was entirely unacceptable.
During the entire booking process and in every single interaction with representatives leading up to and including the day of our arrival, I was asked if we were celebrating anything. I explicitly informed them that this was an extremely special occasion for us. I was assured numerous times that our celebration was noted and would be acknowledged in a very special way during our stay.
Unfortunately, the staff completely dropped the ball. When the day came, the resort committed a multitude of errors that utterly ruined our celebration. It wasn’t a case of a single minor oversight; it was a chain of careless mistakes that proved there was zero communication between management and the front-line staff.
To make matters worse, I contacted Customer Care upon returning home to express our disappointment. The response we received was a generic email essentially stating that "these things happen."
For a resort that heavily markets itself on luxury and priding itself on celebrating special occasions, they fell miles short. I understand that mistakes happen in the hospitality industry, but a cascade of errors combined with a completely dismissive attitude from customer service points to gross carelessness. Beaches needs to take actual ownership of their mistakes instead of brushing off guests who paid a premium expecting the special experience they were promised.
Avoid upgrading for a special occasion here—they talk a great game beforehand, but the execution and follow-through are nonexistent.
All I have received from Beaches are basic responses on how they could do better without offering any type of solution.

Beaches Negril canceled our trip

Beaches Negril canceled our trip in November after Hurricane Melissa and rescheduled us for December where we were unable to reach the resort due to a snowstorm in New York that canceled nearly 2000 flights nationwide. When speaking with Beaches about this they convinced me to rebook my trip with additional fees and costs for flights would be added on, charging me an additional $2300 for Beaches and I would be responsible for the flights because the flights had already been used been taken over by the Airlines. After discussing this with my family we decided it would be best to cancel the vacation to Beaches resort and wait to rebook. Now mind you we have planned this vacation starting in January and are still paying for it now. Beaches explained that the vacation booked was considered non- refundable because we did not make the reservation date on November, which they canceled. Now I have to talk with Tripmate and it sounds like my claim will be denied. Total reimbursement for a $10,000 vacation is $108.

Beaches booked us at a resort they KNEW was closing

We booked a vacation on March 9th at Beaches Ocho Rios for the week of June 22nd. We booked a one bedroom ocean front room. On April 24th, we received an email saying that Beaches-Ocho Rios was closed and we should reach out to Beaches customer service to re-book in another location for a room of comparable level. When we called, we were told the only location available for that week was in Negril (a much smaller resort, boasting 13 restaurants of which 6 are "food trucks", open only for lunch or places for yogurt or pastries). We were also told that the only room available was a garden room--for those who have stayed at Beaches/Sandals, you know that Garden rooms are in loudest area of the resort and there's no privacy. The person we spoke with then said, "Well, you will get a refund for the ocean front room." OF COURSE we get a refund, the room we booked was much more expensive--but she said it as if she was doing us a favor. Best part is that she said that was all she could do. We could take it or leave it. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told "that's not possible". We are only able to travel this one week in June and so, here we are, going to a resort that is sub standard to what we booked, traveling nearly two hours to get there and being told how sorry they are this happened. In reality, Beaches took reservations for a resort they KNEW was closing months and months ago (it is the only "third party owned" Beaches resort and it is closing for renovations). Besides not screwing- I can't imagine how many- people who booked a vacation at Beaches Ocho Rios, they could have gone out of their way to take care of these people. Again, they KNEW they booked people at a resort that was going to be closed and made no effort to ensure rooms at other resorts would be available. At the very least, they could have offered private shuttle to and from the resort, a free spa treatment, a cabana on the beach just to name a few things---but they did nothing other than tell us what a great room we had and what a great resort it is. We have gone to Sandals/Beaches for over 10 years. This will be our last time at one of these resorts. I am disgusted by this company and will take every opportunity to tell anyone I can to stay away from Beaches/Sandals at all costs.

We purchased the travel protection plan…

We purchased the travel protection plan through the Beaches website when booking our room in Turks and Caicos. Our trip was canceled as our airline had staffing issues and was unable to get us to our destination and unable to rebook us. When I called Beaches resort to submit a claim to the travel protection insurance, they sent me to Tripmates and they denied the claim due to it being airline issues, very disappointing that Beaches would offer this protection plan.

I took my family to Beaches Ocho Rios…

I took my family to Beaches Ocho Rios in October last year for a luxury break celebrating a special birthday. On arrival we were ignored, put in a room that didn’t have enough beds for my family of five. After some serious complaining, one of the managers (David) stepped in and did everything he could to recover the holiday for us, and in the main he succeeded, which included moving to a different room. The real game changer, much to our surprise, was the lovely chap named Dukel who looked after us in our cabana every day. Dukel has a bright future ahead if his natural talent for customer service is noticed and nurtured my senior management.
