Retiring, should be former customer hassle I don't need.
At the age of 74, I have finally retired. I handed in my last Argoshield bottle at Glasgow on the 18th of May, 2 days before the renewal date. Fortunately, I have a document to prove it was handed in.
I have now received an Overdue Account reminder and a Surcharge statement! Remember, these transactions are effectively annual deposits, paid in advance. Clearly, their bottle database/spreadsheet is not updated at the end of each working day. It would seem that their accounting system also lacks updated stock information.
I've tried to find somewhere on their site to report the problem, but I can't.
I tried the customer service number 0800111333 at 1.15pm only to have a robotic voice tell me that the service is closed and I should call back between the opening times. I'm sure it says 5pm somewhere.
PATHETIC service in this day and age. Their drive to AI systems produces very poor results, when all that the system is programmed for, is automated order taking. It might work well enough when AI eventually takes over the world, but as an interface with mere human customers, the web site is a disaster; yet we keep being referred back there!
Since commencing this review, I have taken the opportunity of reading some others. It would appear that I am not alone. BOC, far from being a world leader in customer service, has fallen way down the scale. It's not the guys in the depots who are to blame. They have always been extremely helpful. It's clearly a management problem and they have become so dissociated form their customers, that they do not learn from repeated mistakes. Unfortunately, the way AI systems work, they never will.
UPDATE: In today's Post, I have received notice of intended court action from Ogden Lyles & Fox, on behalf of BOC. No wonder their prices are sky rocketing. Employing debt agencies to recover imaginary debts is an expensive game. So let it be known that I intend to publicise these interactions in the Federation of Small Business magazine. This is how BOC treats its long standing, (over 50 years), customers. ABSOLUTE DISGRACE.
Customer Service is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE, deal with your local Gear & Gas
Dealing with BOC customer service is painful all the personal service has totally gone, when you ring nobody ever answers and when they do they are unable to answer any questions. HOWEVER when I went to my local Gas and Gear in Portsmouth - WHAT A DIFFERENCE, the gentleman was friendly and excellent in every way and restored my confidence in the company

If I could give no stars I would. Not only do they bump up the prices without notice hoping you don’t notice, you call and put on hold for 1 hour to get lied to and no follow up. Charge rediculous amounts of money for forklift gas and rental fee . Avoid this company at all cost! Very costly and unprofessional customer service.

Frequent account errors and often poor support.
We are a department working under contract with BOC and unfortunately our experience is often frustrating and inefficient.
Despite having clear account structures and purchase order processes in place, BOC repeatedly allocates orders to the wrong accounts, even when documentation that is provided is explicit.
This adds a significant adminstrative burden on our part, requiring us to spend time identifying errors, chasing corrections and ensuring costs (including ongoing rentals costs) are not being invoiced to the wrong accounts.
These are not isolated incidents and are occuring ever more frequently recently.
Customer support compounds these issues, live chat wait times are often long and the range of issues the agents can help with is very narrow.
Communication is also poor, for example a recent delivery fee increase was implemented without direct notification to account holders. We only found out about this through informal word of mouth with a colleague from a different department. The mis-aligned invoices created from this otherwise could have led to multiple accounts being put on stop, requiring a massive amount of work on our part to sort it.
BOC needs to review it's internal processes. In particular, it needs to look at improving staff training on account and purchase order handling. The level of service falls well below what is acceptable for a large contracted supplier.

Too big to care
We cancelled our agreement with BOC 2 years ago. We retuned the bottle to their stockist. We informed them by email. 2 years later they are still taking hundreds of pounds from our bank account and there is no number to ring them on and they do not respond to emails. It should not be allowed. Too big to care!

Absolute dire service.
My mum passed away almost 3 weeks ago. Need them to collect an oxygen concentrator and a small part used oxygen cylinder....3 times they've said they will collect it...3 times they haven't turned up.
How difficult is it...drive the van to the property, knock on the door, collect gear, get back in van, drive off.
When they initially delivered it, the chap spoke to us like dirt, because we might be a few minutes late, as we had to come out of work.
Worst company I've ever had to deal with. Going to get in touch with my local council on Monday, see if they can help me.

Sold me exactly what I needed to complete the task I had been struggling with at a fantastic price. 5* to that particular depot for having what I needed in stock when I needed it and 5* to the guy that had a mountain of knowledge that solved my issue
