THIS REVIEW IS FOR BRIGHTON UNIVERSITY SUMMER ENGLISH PROGRAM 13-15 (part of Oxford international)
Although I did not attend as a collage student during a semester, I took part in the summer program for ages 13-15 they offer. I did not find another website to share this horrible experience that is dedicated to these ages so I will leave my view here in hopes that future attendees will have a clear understanding of everything. To begin the food was inedible ,my accommodation had many different issues such as rust in the shower and a horrible metallic smell that spread throughout the room. The teachers and staff were always nice but even though I have a PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATION at C2 level I was still placed in a C1 group. Frankly I don’t believe there was ever a c2 group to begin with and that they were not prepared. As someone whose English is at a near fluent level I was fully expecting to be placed with others like me. Another negative aspect is the fact that when I got sick with my throat being closed and being unable to speak I was still forced to go to class even though I was unable to participate, same goes for on site activities that are dedicated to socializing. Therefore this experience was not in any way useful as I received a participation certificate for an English class that is below my level and was unable to socialize because of my health which they didn’t give me a chance to improve. To further expand on the topic of food, what I mean by inedible isn’t just that it tasted bad, I got food poisoning and threw up after eating cafeteria food my first day there. All they served that could be eaten was carbs, potatoes pasta bread etc. the meat and salads were horrible and I was forced to eat packaged food from sainsburys the whole time. It was so bad I was counting down until the day of our departure. It is also so bad I want to give it a zero, but that is not possible so I give it…a one. To put everything into perspective imagine you arrive at this university with good intentions of having fun only to find your accommodation filthy, vomit because of the food at the cafeteria and then get sick on an expedition, loose your voice and then be forced to go to class with people of lower English learning levels while surviving on protein bars and sandwiches from a convenience store.
I also apologize for the fact that information is scattered around my review but it is my last day here and I am so upset I can’t put my thoughts and experiences in an order.
