Carrental is a ripoff

Book direct. They are a rip off
Do NOT prepay reservation with Hertz
On December 1, 2025, I pre-paid US$ 919.81 and reserved a mid-size SUV, including any and all fees and taxes, for our planned family vacation in the USA from December 23, 2025 until January 3, 2026. This was done with the aim, since we have small children, to have everything well-arranged upon arrival to avoid surprises, especially because we would arrive in the evening.
Upon arrival on December 23, 2025, we were unpleasantly surprised to find that our reservations had been canceled twice. I had made it clear to the front desk clerk that I hadn't canceled the reservation. The clerk couldn't do anything. I had to immediately make a new reservation by phone. But the same favorable rate couldn't be given. I was told over the phone that the prepayment would be refunded. I had to pay almost US$2,000 for the same mid-size SUV, including any and all fees and taxes, I prepaid.
I immediately sent several emails to find out exactly what had gone wrong and to arrange a refund. A Hertz customer representative confirmed by email on December 26, 2025, that the pre-booking had been canceled due to an error on Hertz's part. By email on December 27, 2025, I was told that I would receive a refund of US$919.81 within ten (10) days, and that since the rental was still ongoing, adjustments could not be processed. An adjustment would only be made when I returned the rental car. I had requested that the same amount as I had paid for the pre-paid reservation be charged. After all, the reservation was not canceled due to my error; it was Hertz that unilaterally canceled the pre-booking.
Based on these emails, I was completely confident and trusted that everything would be fine. So when, after returning the rental car, I was charged US$3,023.62, and the US$919.81 I had paid in early December 2025 was not refunded, but deducted from my final bill, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Despite repeated email correspondence, Hertz couldn't resolve this. And the worst part about corresponding with Hertz was that a different representative responded each time, so I had to explain everything completely again. And the icing on the cake, Hertz gave me a US$50.00 discount for their mistake. It's ridiculous.
I have since received the original US$919.81 back from Hertz Aruba. However, I still paid US$1,134.00 too much, taking into account that I paid and reserved and the reservation was unilaterally cancelled by Hertz. I have since requested/demanded Hertz to immediately refund the difference of US$1,134.00. But again no reaction from Hertz.
Do not use this company
Do not use this company! I was to pick up a car in Baraboo Wi at Enterprise. They charged me for the rental and 60.00 insurance. I received the money back from Enterprise because they would not allow me to rent a car with an out of state license. Wth? I filled a claim with my bank ( capital one) which they declined... Twice. I do believe this website is a scam. Please be aware.
This company will lie and scam you out…
This company will lie and scam you out of money. 1st rented a car and prepaid. Arrived at Fox a couple hours later than my rsvp. Fox said they could still get me a car but rate was 2x more. Car rentals said they would not refund my money because I was late to pick up the car. 2nd time booked through them with Payless. Arrived on time but Payless said they were sold out. Called car rentals immediately and was told I wouldn’t be refunded for 7-10 days even though I got nothing! The refund process was never started by them and I had to dispute with my cc. This company is a racket!
Still waiting for my refund
I have been waiting for a refund since the 27th October. I keep being told it has been processed. I haven't seen any money.
Terrible company. Avoid at all cost.

Do nor rent a car from these thieves! They take a $500 deposit on your credit card. I booked a vehicle for3 days for pick up at O'Hare Airport remote offsite location. Paid in FULL at time of booking. Arrived at counter to pick up the car. Agent says "You will need our collision insurance @ an additional $35 per day unless you have your "Insurance Cards". Luckily I had them on my phone or I would have been screwed out of $115.00. Next, I see signs all over the lobby "Notify Agent thif you will be going out of state". I told the agent that I was going to be in Lake Geneva Wisconsin for the three days. She stated "While you are out of state there is a 200 mile per day limit". So, I knew it was not 600 miles round trip, no problem. I return 3 days later and guess what...On my way in the shuttle, I receive an invoice with ADDITIONAL CHARGES! $14/day for crossing the state line (10 miles over the border)! A BCF Fee (Broder crossing Fee (and this is not Mexico border) @ $51.00 . A $32 milage fee! A $36.00 Fee for picking the car up 15 minutes early???? WTF???? Has anyone been screwed like this by a rental car company before? I rent over 100 rentals annually and have NEVER seen anything like this! Get the word out...This outfit needs to STOP DEFRAUDING CUSTOMERS! WTF?
Worst place to rent a car
Worst place to rent a car. Avoid at all cost. They will charge your credit card without your permission. They don’t refund when you cancel the booking. Don’t ever open their website
Whatever you do, do NOT rent a car through Carrentals.com!
Whatever you do, do NOT rent a car thru carrentals.com! First of all, once you book it is COMPLETELY non-refundable, even when it says they will give you back $100 if you cancel more than 24 hours in advance. I booked a car rental at the Portland Airport (PDX) with Sixt, but then I realized that my flight wasn’t coming in until midnight and their office closes at 1 am. So if my flight was delayed by an hour i would be out of a car rental. So i made a reservation through Carrentals.com again (2nd mistake) with Thrifty thinking I could cancel the first reservation. Then i found out I could not cancel and Carrentals.com claimed that it was because Sixt would not refund my reservation. I called Sixt though, and they said it was not their policy, and even advocated for my refund with Carrentals.com. But car rentals.com refused to refund the money. So not only does car rentals.com lie, but they refused to refund my money knowing i made a second reservation with thrifty for the same pick up time. I will NEVER use car rentals.com again!
This company is NOT trustworthy
This company is NOT trustworthy. They do not stand behind their service and do not tell the truth. Until they pay the car vendor, Carrentals.com is the one who controls the money. They do not run a well designed web page and they do not have any sway over the vendors. Whatever you might save by using Carrentals.com, you will lose so much money that you will need at least 10-12 future rentals to recover the loss. Run and run fast….
Misleading prices and practices
Misleading prices and practices. Booked in Canada for Canadian car rental for tomorrow and was quoted $300 not specifying currency, and given that it is an international provider, I assumed it wase in CAD as everyone else does. After providing the credit card number and booking, the receipt had the price of the rental in one currency and the total in a different currency. Instead of $300, now it was $500 CAD. When I go to cancel, It wants to charge me $50 USD because the res. is tomorrow. I used to use them a lot, but never again.
Be aware of the average rental car

Total rip-off. I booked thinking I got a good deal, but at the counter they tacked on a bunch of hidden fees that doubled the price and the total cost ballooned due to unexpected charges. Insurance, taxes, and other fees were not clearly explained upfront. If you’re considering those companies , read the fine print carefully and ask questions before committing.
Finally, there’s a non-refundable cost for booking and Carrentals.com will not refund you if you decide not taking the car.
Beware
Beware! I used Kayak to rent a Hertz car for 3 days. CarRentals immediately charged my card for $185, claiming there would be small additional fees at the rental desk. Needing a car, I accepted. That very afternoon, the Hertz rental desk called and said they had no available cars due to all the activity in Des Moines during my rental period. CarRentals is fraudulently scamming consumers by charging your card and then claiming it is non-refundable. DO NOT use this company.

The scammed me for sure.
I tried renting a car using their service.
I ran into issues with the rent a car, they had to charge a massive amount as deposit.
I got the refund from the car rental but never from the 3rd party. They are evil. I hate this company don’t do business with them.

They have confirmed my refund regarding insurance - but after a month has passed and I asked again, each time different workers replies and copy/pastes generic replies. Now asking for things they have not asked before in order to complete refund!
don't use. They get commission from fraudulent companies
They use a company at O'Hare called routes. I bought full insurance through this Expedia company. They would not accept it and wanted more money. Also charge for driving to another State. Old fashioned scammers, charging customers at the rental desk. I informed CarRentals of this scam and they are ignoring my request for a refund. I have deleted all my Expedia accounts. So they will lose out to future business
TERRIBLE
TERRIBLE. I booked and when I got to the car rental counter (early!) I was told no cars were available. There are ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS even if it’s not your fault. NO CUSTOMER SVC OF ANY KIND.
I was lied to and scammed for $150
I was lied to and scammed for $150. I searched for enterprise online and they popped up with a phone number in chrome as a first hit so I just clicked on it. I went to car sales.com. The guy charged me $150 to change my reservation and promised me an all-wheel-drive. I was concerned when the trip didn’t show up and enterprise on my account and I called them and they said they did not have all-wheel-drive at that location nor any location within hundreds of miles. I double checked with the guy three times when I was on the phone that I needed all-wheel-drive and he said no worries, even though it doesn’t show it you let them know at the counter and they’ll give it to you. I should’ve known when both of my credit cards blocked the transaction
