So far they've captured my driving licence. I tried to join via a referral link sent to me by a friend. £70 welcome gift apparently. It's simply not true. App just won't work, nothing more, nothing less.
Beware. Once they have your funds there is NO customer support to help you with anything. If you open a ticket it is not read or actioned you simply get a canned response and your case is closed. They do not honour their referral fees, you do not earn anything to refer. Without proper support this company is not to be trusted.
I created my account from a referral link and was eligible for 10$ BTC referral bonus. It was showing up in my account to claim. I followed all steps to claim it. Now neither the section nor BTC bonus is available in my account. They just lure users to trade and after that nothing. There is no section that shows referral details too. Extremely unethical. They do not mention in any of their emails that I created the account from referral. Very smart to cheat
I was supposed to receive $10 of BTC for referral bonus and completing a deposit. It's been almost a week any coinbase has not answered my support email or tweets. I will call my bank and do a chargeback now.
Coinbase uses manipulative tactics and deception to trick you into starting an account with them. There is a referral program that should give new users a small reward for joining, but they never paid out the reward to me.
They also promise that you can make some free crypto with Coinbase earn, but I can't even access it.
The fees are also insanely high. I lost over 5% of my investment just to buy some crypto???
To top it all of there is no humans that I have been able to contact at customer support.
Opened account with coin base after a referral from a mate. As per their instruction uploaded my ID, 2 days later it said my ID was verified and account ready for trading. However when I went to the app, it would not let me add payment method and said my account was still in process of getting verified. Sent a message to coinbase, few days later got a response saying the case was resolved and closed. Went back in the app and realised nothing was resolved, sent message again to coming base and again few days later get the similar email (only the case number was different) saying cases resolved and closed. Went in the app again same issue, nothing was resolved. Sent message again and and and....... well you guessed it, same email with different case number saying case resolved and closed. Meanwhile while I was messaging and waiting for response through out of the month they kept bombarding me with email asking to trade etc etc.... well I would if I could add payment method.
Went on reviews only to realise lot of people were having the same issue and not only that once you buy there 99% you will have problems when withdrawing profit after you have sold your investment and or the company just takes your money as fee.
Conclusion: the company does not have any real customer support, it’s all automated. ID verification can take long long time, those who opened account with coinbase 6 months ago we’re fine with getting ID verification however since last 6 months people have been having problems. Can’t contact them due to no option apart from messaging whereas response to your message is automated.. once you invest you cannot get money back without having issues and such they will hold your money back.
I have deleted the app! After realising that not only you’re buying and selling crypto but also dealing with customer service who are also made of crypto.
They stole my referral bonus! My friend registered from my referral link, never got the bonus! Very very bad customer service, never will touch this company again! Think twice, before signing up!
The layout of the site is also very poor, hard to follow transactions!
Really bad experience. I used the referral code and gave it to a friend. Although she bought for more than the minimum amount, we both did not get our referral fee. We both sent several mails but only got the answer they could do nothing about it. So Coinbase is not trustworthy. Do not put your money there.
Use some sense when you're looking at these reviews. Any and all bad (or good) reviews that are discreetly re-directing you to a web site or email address to "help recoup your money" are FAKE, and are SCAMS. Many are so blatant that they are just use different user-IDs, copy-pasting the exact same info.
Now, on to MY ACTUAL review of Coinbase;
I was able to get all of my sign-on bonuses, and a couple more sense I have signed up. I have moved money and crypto around with no problems. I received my referral bonus as promised. I'm making interest bonus on some alts. Everything so far is working exactly as expected.
I knocked off a star as I have a support request in regarding my legal name having a typo that I want to be sure gets corrected (and not a reason for problems later on). At exactly 3 months from the date I submitted my request I finally got a reply - but it was just a canned message that had nothing to do with my request. I replied again, and hoping it's not another 3 months before I hear back. The support level is the only thing that really scares me at this point.
I will update my review as needed depending on the outcome.
The referral system simply does not work. When I contacted customer service about this issue, they told me that it's an automated system and they won't look into it manually. Really terrible company, avoid.
They just lie.
Simple as that. I was referred to them, and followed their rules to get the $10 referral bonus. I didn't get it after a couple weeks so I reached out for help. I was told they have no visibility into their referral system, and they guessed what I didn't do. I did do the things they guessed I hadn't, but they have no way to tell I did or did not. They can not (or choose not to) tell me what part of the requirements they think I haven't done, so I have no recourse. I believe I met the requirements and they can't tell me otherwise.
Why trust a company to record transactions that can't even manage a referral?
Registered through a friend's referral, neither of us received the referral money. The bitcoin I bought has been locked since I bought it, saying I owe them a payment. Even though it shows I made both payments successfully. Contacted support several times since over a month ago, automated emails saying I will hear back but no actual response. I cannot trade, I cannot withdraw my money, they have effectively stolen from me.
Issue with referral program not addressed. Value of disputed item-15 gbp which is not material for Coinbase but customer service refused to pay. Not customer friendly company
Most of the negative comments below I can honestly say I have not experienced. The trading seems to be fine however getting there was a nightmare. It took several weeks to be verified which is just ridiculous. My main complaint is the referral scam. I have referred several people who have signed up through my link but coinbase refuse to pay referral fees stating its an automatic process and that they have no control to compensate or sort out issues if payment isn't made. They advise that they can't even investigate the matter. This has left me feeling furious and wishing I had trusted another company to invest in. The customer services here are very bad.
if you think your money is yours, think again, if you think your tokens and bitcoin is yours think again, these people literally are a dictatorship. think north Korea of exchanges. every transaction in monitored and tracked aver attempt to move cryptos off the platform gets blocked delayed sent for referral to WHO? who decides where and when i can spend or send my money? certainly not a bot on coinbase, seriously do some research. every withdrawal even minor 200$ min cap alts, blocked screened and held for days and days. No explanation. imagine if you really need some cash well forget it, think paypal squared levels of control freakery. Avoid at all costs, they are destined to fail, with this level of controls and not to mention the site crashes every time the market moves either way. they just shut down, cost millions to multiple people. Like most dictatorships they crumble, Alts and bitcoin are about individual freedoms and autonomy. well these guys belong in the dark ages, go to any DEX instead.
I trusted Coinbase from the beginning. However, in time, I realized i had not received the $10 in Bitcoin for depositing at least $100 within 30 days. I contacted them via the hardest process ever and after 2 weeks, they responded stating, "Your case has been resolved and closed." Ridiculous! Anyway, I decided to leave it alone. Then, being naive, I sent multiple people my link to join. Those people joined and several invested at least $100 insuring I would get $10 in bitcoin and so would they. That was wishful thinking, again. Never received a cent. So, I contacted coinbase again. Their response was classic. They told me that I could not invest using their site and I would not be receiving any referral fee. Civil suit? That's a contract which I fulfilled my position and they told me they would not be honoring their end. Civil suit?
Very poor customer service. The website itself is fine, especially if you want an easy to use service. But the customer support when they returned a transfer to me and fined me a small amount (in error) was awful. Didn't read my questions, gave canned responses irrelevant to my case, and contradicted their own statements on their website. Not a single apology for their error.
So, use it if you must, get the free referral coins, but then use Binance (or other service), I've had a MUCH better experience there, as well as lower fees.
Used referral link and exchanged 88 euros (equivalent of 100 usd) for selected crypto. Did verification of 2nd level and expected referral bonus to be accounted. This has never happened. When asked support, they replied all is automated and they have no chance to check. I must haven't finished account verification (no, I did even 2nd level) and/or didn't exchange needed sum of money (88 Euros were exchanged).
Unprofessional reply from support with lack of any aim to deal with the problem. Refrain from dealing with their support as this most probably is loss of time.
EDIT: bonus was paid later on, but support was pretty poor, they were unable to check the status of my enquiry.
COINBASE IS A SCAM - BEWARE
Very easy to get verified, deposit cash and buy currency - however it is IMPOSSIBLE TO WITHDRAW MONIES from your account. They have STOLEN my money.
They tell you you have to send them further deposits by a banking method called SEPA to prove your account is real, which costs to send. Nevertheless I (stupidly) did that, TWICE, and despite having several emails telling me what to do, which I have followed to the letter, they still won’t “verify” my account for withdrawal unless I send them another payment. Interesting how they were ok to verify payments in very quickly - but not payments out....it is clearly a scam.
Check on twitter and other places - lots of people having the same problems. Reported them to UK fraud authorities and suggest others do the same - google actionfraud
