Avoid sending to Chile at all costs
If you sell internationally on Ebay or other platforms, I strongly advise you to exclude Chile from your destinations, due to dreadful delay in their Customs team and the incompetence of the advisers in the Correos.cl customer service team.
I sold a watch on Ebay which arrived in Santiago on December 13th 2024 and disappeared into the Customs depot. It had a fully completed Customs form CN22 on the back, giving them all the details they needed. In February I began a series of complaints to the Correos.cl team, none of which speeded up the processing of my shipment. Finally last week they sent a message saying that the package was cleared on 29 MAY - after five and a half months.
Their first message about this asked ME to pay the import tax, and gave me details of how to collect the item. After I pointed out for the 5th or 6th time that I am the sender, not the addressee, they then asked me to provide the buyer's e-mail address or phone number because they were "unable to contact him" for payment of import tax.
Yes ... a POSTAL AUTHORITY, in possession of a package with the recipient's name and address on the label, was telling me that they have no way to contact him! And when I pointed out that they could simply send him a letter, and that a child could figure out that solution, they replied saying "We cannot contact him due to a lack of information" - even though I had repeated his name and address in my reply. You couldn't make this up ...
As a final unbelievable straw, they added :
"We also inform you that on the eleventh calendar day after the shipment has been received at the branch and has not been picked up, a storage fee of $600 per day will be incurred. After this period, the shipment will be returned to the sender due to the deadline."
That's not a typo by me ... $600 PER DAY. And the final sentence makes no sense, because they haven't mentioned the period for which they will still retain it.
Avoid this team of idiots at all costs.
