Completely in the tank for the Cruise Companies

Completely in the tank for the Cruise Companies. They refused to publish a review critical of Crystal Cruise Line. They put several guests in a life threatening position. Totally unsafe. I reported it to CC and 4 other Cruise review sites. Cruise Critic was the only site that refused to post the situation. Clearly funded by the Cruise Industry.

I posted a negative review of Holland America Rotterdam but they rejected it. I read that the company gets advertising money. If so, their overall reviews may be biased making cruises sound better than reality.

Heavy‑Handed Moderation & Content That Favors Cruise Lines

Cruise Critic used to be a great resource, but the forum has become almost impossible to use because of the moderation. Posts are removed without explanation, threads get shut down for minor disagreements, and users are warned or suspended for sharing perfectly reasonable opinions. It feels like you’re walking on eggshells every time you try to participate.

The bigger issue is the clear bias. Cruise Critic is funded through advertising and commercial partnerships with cruise lines, and it absolutely shows. Critical discussions about certain cruise brands seem to disappear quickly, while glowing praise stays untouched. The moderation doesn’t feel neutral it feels protective of the companies that financially support the site. There are also groups of long term posters who are seemingly above the community rules.

The result is a community that doesn’t feel open, balanced, or trustworthy. Honest conversation gets filtered out, and users are left with a forum that reads more like marketing than real discussion. If you want genuine cruise advice without censorship or selective moderation, you’ll have a much better experience on Reddit or independent Facebook groups.

Cruise Critic needs to rethink how it handles user content if it wants to remain a credible source of information.

Our ship was the Oceania Insignia

Our ship was the Oceania Insignia, and the cruise was from Barbados to Manaus, Brazil (on the Amazon River) with return to Barbados(19 days). We had initially considered HAL, but they left from Florida, had many stops in the Caribbean, which we had seen multiple times, and was a much longer cruise. Plus, the Insignia itinerary included Devil's Island and Trinidad, which were new ports for us. Embarkation with Insignia was fine. We were located in a Concierge Level Veranda, Deck 7. The cruise began January 27 and ended February 15, 2026. We were anticipating a great cruise, especially with advertising of "one chef for everyone ten passengers" and "finest cuisine on the seas". Unfortunately, for us, this was not to be. First, the stateroom was very small. The person on the side of the bed away from the bathroom had trouble getting to the bathroom because of very limited walking area, and particularly with the wall TV protruding into the space. We couldn't open the balcony door until maintenance finally came to replace the slide mechanism. The bathroom door knob literally came off in my hand. The shower was impossibly small and the folding door didn't fit, either protruding into the shower or sticking out allowing water onto the floor. Dining was a big disappointment, especially the specialty restaurant, Toscana. Some plates were inedible and lettuce had brown tinged edges. Polo Grill was best of all, but the Grand Restaurant was nothing exceptional. Entertainment was mediocre. The lounge was on one level, making it difficult to see speakers or performances if you were not in the front. One woman speaker who did multiple presentations read her notes entirely. A male threesome of singers were trite and frequently off-key. The atmosphere was less cordial than we had previously experience with other lines. The cruise director and her husband (a comedian) were both retiring and acted like it. Shore excursions along the Amazon were okay and not overly expensive (but mostly non-existent, except for Manaus), but went downhill once we got back to the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago were cancelled, and in substituted ports we were docked in remote areas. No shuttle service was provided to make up for this. The only transportation service was if you had scheduled an excursion. Post-cruise we heard that Oceania had planned to sell Insignia because renovation was so expensive, but the sale fell through. Perhaps this helps explain why maintenance was so lacking. In any event, there are too many good cruise lines out there to waste on Oceania ever again.

Royal Caribbean misrepresented a credit…

Royal Caribbean misrepresented a credit card promotion. Both my wife and I were told by their representative that we would receive $300 onboard credit each ($600 total), and that once applied it could not be reversed.

Upon boarding, only $300 was applied. After multiple calls and transfers, they refused to honor what was clearly confirmed and instead offered a restricted future cruise credit.

This is not a policy issue—it is a failure to honor what their agent explicitly represented. Currently unresolved.

Corrupted and heavily censored

This is one of the most corrupted forums I know. It is owned by TripAdvisor which is a huge conflict of interest since TripAdvisor is basically a travel agent. Any information about other Travel agents is strictly forbidden and you will be banned if you just mention any other TA.

Also, the posts are heavily censored and you can be warned or banned for no reason. Your posts might be deleted with no warning and no explanation.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a…

I wasn't sure what to expect from a company called cruise critic because the word critic is Greek basically meaning one who can make judgments. There are actually two sides one who is very negative or one who is more thoughtful and fair but both are critics . I attempted to write a review of my wife and my trip to Bermuda. Bermuda was wonderful but the cruise was not. I rated it 1 which is terrible. The next day I was sent a email stating I went on about one issue so they didn't publish it. I noticed today 10/10 25 cruise critic published a few reviews all good lol.i actually reviewed Norwegian which is the ship in question on a few sites including this great one trust pilot ! And the only one that didn't publish was cruise critic!

The name of the website is fake

The name of the website is fake. If are you allowed to present critical views or question cruising, cruises or cruise lines. If you do, you will be censored and banned. One can not simply trust their one sided marketing messages when all opposing views are suppressed. This is the worst kind of fake website as their name pretends to allow criticism and critics. What a shame!
