Looking at 187 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the user experience, citing frequent UI changes and difficulty in managing features. Customers also expressed strong negative opinions regarding the subscription and pricing models, which they found to be misleading, expensive, and subject to unannounced changes. Additionally, the customer service was frequently criticized for being unresponsive and unhelpful. Some people were dissatisfied with the artificial intelligence features, finding them unreliable, inefficient, and prone to errors, often leading to more work rather than increased productivity. Horrible Performance compared to VS Code

Been using it for several months as my employer is providing the license and pays for the usage.

Performance is absolutely abysmal and many in the company complained about it. I can easily have several VS Code workspaces open, but opening a single Cursor window takes 10+ seconds and puts a heavy strain on my laptop. And it hasn't improved at all after all these months.

The second issue is it forgets the "trusted" workspaces all the time. You open a workspace and you need to reload window because it forgot it's trusted (even though you can see it as trusted in the config).

Considering Cursor uses VS Code / Codium as base and builds upon it, I had expected much better experience.

The AI stuff is as good as the models you use - and those are often not made by Cursor directly (although they have their own model too).

I switched from Codex VSCode to Cursor…

I switched from Codex VSCode to Cursor because the usage limits make much more sense. With Codex, the agent usage gets used up way too quickly, sometimes a single prompt already consumes 10% of the quota, which is honestly unreasonable.

If Cursor can continue maintaining this pricing and usage model, or even reduce the usage limits further, I’ll probably keep using Cursor long-term, upgrade to a higher plan, and recommend it to my friends as well.

Terrible experience, no refunds!

Terrible experience. Cancelling with them is the worst and they will not refund even if you haven't used cursor in weeks and you missed the renewal any a few days, SO DUMB! Do not use cursor! Use another platform.

Decided to try this while Copilot sorts…

Decided to try this while Copilot sorts things out.

It really loves storing access tokens in plaintext, no matter how many times you tell it not to. It will lead you through elaborate processes and workarounds before just sticking the thing in plaintext without telling you.

I gave it one final chance to fix the mess. It seemed to finally be making progress when it asked me to upgrade my plan.

I will be more productive working without AI until Copilot reopens than I would be with this thing.

Can't follow your instructions

I asked it to do edits locally, it consistently pushed the edits to the live site, since most of it's coding was wrong it destroyed many of my sites paywall features, it can't follow direction at all, and is poor at coding, it has the base to be good but it's has poor customer service behind it, so bad product and people don't make something you want to pay for. I messaged support and they refused to refund my subscription, I was only 2 days into it.

Bad business practices - Overpriced

I really loved using Cursor, and the performance was outstanding. However, based on the reviews I’ve read here, it seems many people have experienced the same issue I’m dealing with.

Over the course of 30 days, four transactions were charged to my account, totaling nearly $300. The plan that would have been more appropriate for my usage only costs around $200. The bigger issue is that Cursor does not notify customers properly, if at all, before these charges add up.

When I contacted support, the AI response didn’t seem to align with their own policies and did very little to resolve the situation. At the very least, I would expect the system to be trained to retain customers or offer a reasonable solution, rather than simply sending them off with well wishes.

Ironically, the cancellation page seemed to make more sense than the AI support response, since it at least attempted to offer a discount. Overall, I enjoyed the product, but the billing experience and customer support was unacceptable and bad business.

Unauthorized Charges

I was charged $20 for a subscription that I have never even heard of. Even to reach support, they are asking to create an account which I have no interest in doing. I will just dispute with my bank instead.

Cursor has taken eight unauthorised…

Cursor has taken eight unauthorised charges of £15.16 from my account.

I have not got a Cursor account. I’ve never had a subscription with them. I hadn’t even heard of them before.

When I contacted Cursor they said they have no record of any payments coming from my card, nor any record of my email address, and told me to contact my bank.

They are taking money from my card yet say they have no record of me or my card number.

I contacted my credit card provider. They will be sending a new card and cancelling the old one. They will also be blocking Cursor.

Check your bank statements regularly and if you see charges from Cursor IDE AI Powered, San Francisco that you do not recognise then contact your bank straight away.

Be Careful with Cursor On-Demand Billing as a Student

I had a frustrating experience with Cursor’s billing.

I’m a student, and on-demand usage was enabled on my account without me clearly realizing that it would create extra charges. Cursor says there is a prompt in the editor, but I don’t remember seeing a clear enough warning or confirmation.

I contacted support and explained the situation, but they said they cannot refund or cancel the charges.

I like the product, but I think the billing flow for on-demand usage should be more transparent, especially for student accounts.

If you use Cursor, especially as a student, please be careful and check your billing settings.

Two unauthorized charges on my card, refund refused

I never created a Cursor account. I never subscribed to any plan. Yet two charges of 17.06 EUR appeared on my card.
When I contacted support, they confirmed no account existed under my email but still refused to refund, claiming the charges were "valid for services rendered." They also refused to tell me which account used my card details, hiding behind "privacy protocols."
The only thing they did was block my card in their system, which ironically proves they knew something was wrong.
I had to file a chargeback with my bank and send a formal GDPR request.
If you see "CURSOR AI POWERED IDE" on your bank statement and do not recognize it, contact your bank immediately and dispute the charge.

Downgrade Ignored, Overcharged, and No Resolution

Sad to write this, but I do not agree with how the system handled my case, and the lack of human support is very concerning.

I have been using Cursor for four months on the Ultra subscription. Around 15 days ago, I downgraded my plan. The system clearly stated that the downgrade would take effect on April 19th, when my subscription was due to renew.

However, instead of downgrading to Pro as planned, I was charged $240 instead of $25.

I contacted support immediately, but I have only received automated responses from the AI assistant, stating that my case has been escalated. I have followed up multiple times, and still no human response, no refund, and no clear resolution.

It has now been over 24 hours since my first email, and nothing has been resolved. This is extremely concerning, as I need this large amount returned to my account as soon as possible.

If this is how customers are treated, it is completely unacceptable. I expect this issue to be resolved urgently.

Previous email communication:

Initial message:
Hey there, you have taken money from my bank without my permission. My account was waiting to downgrade to Pro, and instead you charged the Ultra amount. Please return my money immediately.
Response received:
Hi! Thanks for reaching out.

Passing your refund request to a teammate to review.

Cursor’s AI Support Assistant
Follow-up:
When will they reply? The transition is still pending, so if you can stop it, please do it.
Response received:
Your refund request is being reviewed by a teammate who will get back to you as soon as possible. The $240 charge has already been processed, but once approved, the refund will be issued to your original payment method within 5 to 10 days.
Follow-up:
Hello again,
18 hours have passed and I have not received a refund or any email from the team. This is becoming a serious concern for me, as I need this large amount returned to my account as soon as possible.
Could you please contact the team again and escalate this case?
Response received:
I’ve escalated your refund request to a teammate who will review it and get back to you as soon as possible.
Final follow-up:
This is ridiculous. More than 24 hours have passed and nothing has been done. My last message did not even receive a reply from Sam.

0 star for their support and terms

Hello,

Hiding behind a vague "Terms of Service violation" without providing any specifics is a lazy and pathetic excuse for a flawed, automated security system.

I have been a "Pro" subscriber for two months now. How can you justify suspending a paying customer's account without any prior notice, warning, or a clear explanation? This is not just a technical failure; it is a blatant lack of professional ethics.

I am a professional software developer, and using a VPN is a necessity for my work environment to maintain a stable connection. If your system flags this as "abuse" and punishes paying users for it, then your platform is fundamentally broken for developers worldwide.

Let me summarize my experience: You trapped me in an infinite login loop, your system failed to provide a simple error message, your automated bot sent me useless troubleshooting steps, and now you issue a canned suspension notice while taking my subscription money. This is the most incompetent and disrespectful customer support experience I have ever encountered.

Keep the account suspended. I have already migrated my entire workflow to Windsurf, where they actually respect their users and have functional authentication systems.

Do not bother replying with another copy-pasted template.

cursor is f disappointment

honestly pretty disappointed with cursor, my account got suspended out of nowhere for some “terms of service violation” but they won’t explain what exactly i did wrong, support just keeps repeating that it was “manually reviewed” and that’s it, i also had a paid pro subscription and now i can’t use the product i paid for, tried reaching out multiple times but got no real answer or resolution, overall feels unfair and not transparent so i’d be careful relying on it especially if you’re paying
