The worst renting experience I’ve had. Dmous Nova is scam!
The worst renting experience I’ve had in Denmark
I lived at Vognmarken 6, 2. 11, in Helsinge with my wife and our two young children. Looking back, renting this apartment is one of the biggest regrets I’ve had since moving to Denmark.
The problems started during our tenancy and continued long after we moved out.
Maintenance was extremely frustrating. Whenever we reported an issue, we were often told someone would look into it. Later, we would be asked whether we had sent an email, who we had spoken to, or told that another colleague was responsible. It felt as though requests constantly fell between departments, and many issues remained unresolved for months.
One example was the kitchen hob. It was not working properly, and I was initially told there was no electrical connection available. After following up repeatedly over the course of about a year, I was told it would finally be fixed—but nobody ever came.
The elevator was another major problem. As parents of two small children, we depended on it every day to take a stroller in and out of the building. Unfortunately, it was out of service multiple times, sometimes for weeks or even around a month. Every time we contacted management, we received promises that it would be repaired, yet the same situation kept repeating. On more than one occasion, staff even seemed unaware that the elevator had already been reported.
The apartment itself was also disappointing. During winter, we experienced poor heating performance and felt the insulation was inadequate, making it difficult to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
The biggest disappointment came when we moved out.
Our total move-out costs exceeded 50,000 DKK. We lost our deposit of approximately 29,000 DKK, and several months later received an additional invoice of around 25,000 DKK, which we paid. Even now, many months after leaving the apartment, we are still receiving additional settlement invoices such as water adjustments. It feels like the financial process never truly ends.
In my opinion, many of the materials in the apartment showed signs of wear relatively quickly under normal family use, yet the move-out charges felt excessive compared to the condition in which we left the apartment.
Overall, what disappointed me most was not only the financial outcome but also the lack of communication, poor follow-up, and the feeling that responsibility was constantly passed from one person to another without resolving the underlying issues.
After living in Denmark for 10 years, this has been my worst housing experience. I cannot recommend renting here based on my own experience. You will be robbed of deposit plus additional amount. The company, Domus Nova, is a white collar thief. You will be left frustrated at the end. Don’t ever shortlist any of the properties owned by this company, including Vognmarken.
