We booked a two-bedroom villa in…

We booked a two-bedroom villa in Salgados through Dream Places for the period from 5 July to 15 July 2026.

On 8 July, just before 11:00 a.m., I received a phone call from Dream Places apologising for the short notice and informing me that some technicians would be visiting the property to carry out what they described as a “routine water test” on the swimming pool.

When I opened the door, I was surprised to find a Public Health Officer and a technician. I immediately questioned why a Public Health Officer would be involved in what had been described as a routine inspection. I was then informed that the visit was actually due to a previous guest having been diagnosed with Legionella and that they were collecting water samples as part of an official investigation.

We are a family of five, including three children, and we had already spent several days in the property without ever being informed of this situation or of any potential health risk. It was only when the health authorities arrived that we discovered the real reason for their visit.

Naturally, we panicked. I immediately contacted Dream Places. The representative apologised repeatedly, saying they had also been caught by surprise and fully understood our concerns. I asked whether they could move us to a comparable property. The alternative offered was nowhere near the standard of the villa we had booked and paid for.

Given the circumstances, I made the only decision I felt was responsible: we packed our belongings, left the property immediately and returned home, cutting short our family holiday.

As a result, we lost money on gym passes, water park tickets and restaurant reservations. Despite all of this, I only asked Dream Places to refund the unused portion of our stay. I simply wanted to get my family out of that property and move on from what had become a deeply distressing experience.

To this day, Dream Places has not contacted us with any solution or processed any refund. Instead, they have merely stated that they are waiting for the laboratory results and advised me to communicate by email if I wanted further information.

What I find most unacceptable is the lack of transparency. We were initially told this was a “routine water test”, when in reality it was an official public health investigation following a suspected case of Legionella linked to a previous guest.

Dream Places showed a complete lack of transparency, customer care and responsibility in handling a situation involving the health and safety of its guests.

I cannot recommend this company. If you are considering booking with Dream Places, I strongly advise choosing a provider that takes customer safety, communication and support far more seriously.

WARNING WARNING!!!!

This could have been a four star rating because everything was great up until after check out. We rented Villa Valbom in Albufeira/Gale in June. We paid 4000 € for the house but also a deposit 1100 € for possible damages (which is more than any other property I’ve rented in any country. It wasn’t a problem since we were a group of middle ages people with adult or teenage children and not a party gang). They didn’t just “hold” the money on my credit card, the actually charged it. According to their policy it can take about 14 days to return the deposit. I heard nothing and had to contact them (they don’t answer email! only by what’s up) so they weren’t in any hurry to give my deposit back. Finally I heard from them and all they said was, that to return my money they needed my bank account number (?) instead of just returning it to my credit card. When I finally got my deposit back after 3 weeks It was only 700 €. They kept 400 €!!! Not one word from them about why they kept my money. This is were the real nightmare began. I’ve emailed them about this and no answer at all. I’ve written on what’s up and it has been forwarded to the office but they don’t answer. FIVE WEEKS after check out they send me pictures of a dirty kitchen towel, a dirty facial towel, a bath towel (they weren’t washed so the pictures was of used towels, what an violating experience) and a broken chair saying this is why they kept 400 €!!! FIVE WEEKS without one word and then I get this!!! I’ve travelled a lot and never ever encountered such a bad company and ”customer service ”. So a very big WARNING to rent from this company. They will keep your deposit, make themselves unreachable and they charge you for EVERYTHING like dirty towels and bad furniture that happens to break when you sit on it. This firm operates on the Algarve coast. You’d be better off choosing another company. If anything I should get a refund for having to rinse the drain in many of the showers (which they didn’t fix during our stay). Since they charged your credit card there’s no way for you to get your money back and since it took them five weeks to communicate that we destroyed things (I disagree of course) so please stay away from this scam company.
