Don't pay for the play app doesn't work no refund. Dont waste your time
Misleading & a rip-off. Avoid!
Disreputable company with appalling customer service. They misrepresent what coverage is on offer to encourage sign-ups then fail to deliver. They do respond to complaints but hide behind a stonewall of 'we don't give refunds' despite high levels of misleading information on their sites. They avoid their responsibilities completely and even claim to have nothing to do with ESPN despite sharing the same name and corporate address! Shocking approach to business and customer service. Avoid!
Bad Service
Bad Service , Misleading, showed massive amounts of content, upon sign up geo-located and then nothing and referred to me ESPN Player when I signed up for Plus. This is quite frankly a scam!!!
Avoid this app!
Charges you for matches they dont show
They advertised for a match and when you click on it you get redirected to a page to pay for subscription and then they don't show it. And now they refuse to pay me back and when i spoke to them on their chat they just closed the chat.
Terrible app
Terrible app! It says i dont have permission to view and i dont have an active subscription all the time. This is the app on the Google Tv-device. I log in on the computer and cast it to tv, then it works. Sad since the content in amazing.

Dreadful customer service
This company cares not one thing about customers. The coverage is entirely random and if you complain a bot sends a standard reply. The problem is they have no competition and they don’t care. This week a tennis event that they show the mens and not the Womens, no explanation why……..
I’d happily pay more to get a service where you know they show all the events they have the rights to.
Steer clear if you can!
If you are wanting to stream the NHL Away games of Toronto Maple Leafs, then stay away from ESPN Player! If you have other options available to you like NHL.TV, I strongly suggest going with those options.
I had little choice.
In the Netherlands, for the 2021/22 NHL season, and the next one, all content has been moved to the ESPN Player service.
The worst streaming subscription I have ever experienced! Steer clear!
When I first subscribed to the ESPN Player in Oct 2021, I could watch all Toronto Maple Leafs Away games via the Canadian Sportsnet Away broadcast offered in the ESPN Player app. Now, since January 2022, this has not been possible. I am only offered the US teams Home broadcast from Bally Sports Network, TNT or the likes. As I follow the Toronto Team I want to watch their broadcast. When I ask customer support for the reason the Toronto Away broadcasts are not available I am given the run around and can never get a straight answer other than a link to their terms and conditions.
(As I am not able to include a link please read the Disney terms of use, United Kingdom, #Section10 and #Section13)
Very very disappointed in the “bate and switch” tactics that ESPN Player has used to take my money and not deliver as promised. In October 2021, I first did a 7 day free trial and everything worked as expected. No issues. I had no reason to believe that there would be any difficulty in watching the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey.
From the EPSN Player website:
“Can I watch the National Hockey League (NHL) Yes, in selected markets, NHL.tv has moved to ESPN Player and starting in the 2021/22 season every single regular season and post-season game will be featured on the service. For a full list of territories, please scroll to the bottom of the page.”
They claimed that every single game would be featured. This has definitely not been the case. In several cases only the home game broadcast has been offered.
Customer service has not been helpful. Streaming of the on-demand games often “hang” randomly requiring a complete restart of the app and the game. Does not offer a “resume where left off” feature. Does not offer an app for Apple TV. The games they list in the schedule as the “Away” game are just a copy of the “Home” game broadcast sometimes with no audio, or just a few minutes of video available.
When I contact ESPN Player customer service about this asking for an explanation, I get a reply with long quotes listing their terms and conditions that exempt them from responsibility of poor quality and “non” broadcast of games.
Basically they are saying that I agreed to not having a high quality of service because I agreed to their terms and conditions that exempt them from providing a high quality of service. They do not take responsibly for poor service and non broadcast of games.
On the grounds that I believe ESPN Player is not delivering as promised I have asked to cancel my subscription and receive a refund. This is not possible. They do not support or supply refunds under any circumstance. Please be aware of this. However, I must mention that I was given a refund equivalent to one month of payment. This was granted to me before I asked for a full cancellation and refund. The following was sent to me via email:
“Every effort is made to provide reliable service and we apologize if the ESPN Player service has not met your expectation. With this stated we have gotten approval to offer a one-time courtesy refund equal to the amount of 1 month of service. You will see this back in 3-7 business days.”
Because I am in a “David and Goliath” type situation, and have agreed to their terms and conditions, and because I don’t have the time or the legal resources that a company like Disney have, I basically don’t have “a legal leg to stand on”. There is nothing I can do.
I can now only move on and try to find a better streaming service to watch Toronto Maple leafs hockey.
My advice is to steer clear if you can!
Read ALL! the fine print available on the Disney terms of use website. Know what you are getting before you make a financial commitment.
Come on Disney! You can do better than this!
Kind regards,
David
Taking my money but no service
Easy to sign up. Hard to cancel. I am being charged for an international service that I can no longer access in the United States. I have tried to cancel and ESPN Player still charges me for a month of service that I cannot even access in the US. Had a plan in Germany. Rude and hard to resolve. Will not reverse the charge and asked me to prove my email conversations with their own company. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
The streaming quality is bad, low resolution video
The streaming quality is bad. Actually it is a big step back from NHL.TV's quality in previous years. I think it is barely HD and painful to watch on a 4K TV. I've tried it on 3 different Android TV boxes, casting from an iPad and an iPhone, no difference, same low resolution. Since I tested ESPN+ with VPN, I have to say that ESPN Player is significantly worse. Also, the Android TV app is disastrous (freezing, crashing). I wanted to watch NHL hockey through this service, but because of the low quality stream it is better option to simply download a game replay from torrent. As we have at home 2Gbit internet access and all other services (Netflix, HBO, Prime Video, etc.) can be watched easily in 4K this service is just lackluster.
AVOID - no access, no refund!
Signed up to watch some specific college football games as I live in the Netherlands. The login wasn't accepted and I never received rest password email when requested. Missed the games I wanted to view and even though ESPNplayer could verify I never logged on they refused to refund my charge. Their response:
"Thank you for contacting ESPN Player support. While we understand your frustration, we are unable to grant this request. We do not offer refunds with our service."
Steaming Service Terrible
The content is well worth the price of the subscription, certainly during the months of September to January and March and April. However the steaming service is terrible. Live games can lag, the app on the Sony TV does not load. Terrible streaming service.
All the time very poor picture quality…
All the time very poor picture quality and glitches coming and going has nothing to do with my own internet other streams are working fine.
Works well when it doesn't glitch
Works well when it doesn't glitch. Has been having a lot of glitches on playback but it works well on live streams
